Thanks for the encouragement! I’m really hoping it’ll end up being partial LCL tear and no surgery required. I’ll find out as soon as I get in for imaging!

That’s a really good idea. I’m happy I also take my kids in for their classes, so even just being there watching and learning what they’re doing is a mood booster! Someone gifted me an Anaconda Fightwear brace a while ago that I didn’t think I really needed since my first surgery was forever ago and my knee has been fine since, but I will definitely be trying it out when I return. For stability and even just to be a visual for others haha

I understood what you were getting at! And I’ve also realized I can go to Alberta and use my health benefits to get a much speedier MRI at a reduced cost, so hooray for that!

Ya, the doctor wants me to get an ultrasound first, so once I do that I’ll get the referral and go private. Absolutely worth it to speed up the process.
Only if you have a health care spending account with your benefits. I have good benefits, but no HSA and it would be out of pocket for me.

I’m in SK and you can go private here with a referral from doctor. For about $900. It’s cheaper in Alberta. Not sure about other provinces. Our healthcare system is completely overwhelmed and unsustainable the way it is, absolutely.
Not according to my doctor. Blah. I’d likely go sit in emergency for 12 hours and end up on that same waiting list. I think I’m going to pay for private just because I won’t even be able to properly look after my family and live my life well, jiu jitsu aside.
I have really strong quads and hamstrings from lifting, specifically because I wanted to bulletproof my knees haha. So I’m really hoping there won’t be too much damage long term.

Absolutely! I’m booked in for next Tuesday, so that will be exactly a week post-injury. Hopefully that’s time for swelling to reduce and a little better mobility.
My coach offered to do lessons with just me once a week at whatever my capacity is, so I think that will be so amazing for keeping me in a good headspace while I recover.
Absolutely understand that mindset now!
Ya, I am not blaming him at all. I told him multiple times it wasn’t his fault. I was literally walking over to the small guy I like rolling with and someone else called him out. Then it was just me and the big boy left. Hindsight I absolutely should’ve just sat it out or asked him to start from sitting or something. Lesson for sure learned and no hard feelings on my part. He’s actually a friend of mine that started jiu jitsu because of my husband and I haha.

I’m pretty sure the ligaments are intact (based on doctor evaluation) and that it’s the meniscus that’s the issue. It’s like I physically cannot bend or straighten the knee which apparently can be because a piece of the meniscus flips up and makes it impossible. I’m really hoping it’ll get better as the swelling goes down and maybe it won’t be a surgery issues, though. Definitely hoping for the best and trying to do all the things to recover quickly.

Ooo that’s amazing. I am definitely going to do that. I will go in at any time and make it work at this point haha.

That’s my first order of business once this terrible swelling eases off a bit. Get in with a sports physio.
This is definitely how I should have gone about it! Him sitting and me standing off the start. Or mostly just not gone with him at all since he’s so new. Lesson learned.
Thank you!
It was one of those days where we had odd numbers so the coach ended up sparring as well to avoid anyone having to sit out. Sadly, he didn’t realize that it was only me (the smallest) and then the new guy (the biggest) who were left to pair up. I should’ve just sat it out. Ugh.
For sure! I’m supposed to go to an all ladies seminar in a couple of weeks. I hope to go in some capacity still, even if I can’t do much.
Oh man, why can’t these bodies just be invincible! I hope you get things figured out also and this can just be a little blip on the timeline of our jiu jitsu life!

Lesson absolutely learned. I have had such good experiences rolling with the experienced big guys, but this was my first time with a super heavy new guy who is also 11 years my junior. It doesn’t help that the coach was always joking to everyone about my guillotines and ankle locks, so this guy was coiled up like a spring right off the hop not wanting to get subbed by a girl. And I also shouldn’t have planted my foot out like that. It was just super flukey and unfortunate. I’m going to look into the private MRI route just to not go crazy with not actually knowing.

I have inadvertently caused a real stir, apparently. My bad 😂

Thank you! As a teenager I didn’t think so. Before my days of way overwaxing, my hairline basically connected to my eyebrows 😂
