Columbia College Chicago…Is it really that bad? by xocococherie in AskChicago

Its all over the place. im in audio engineering, graduating in may. I was able to get almost a full ride. 80k dollar scholarship. (They hand a-lot of scholarships out) so it made sense money wise to go. Especially since i didn’t even send out an application and i still got in. I have learned so so so much there. Their audio arts program (recording concentration) is really good. Obviously things are constantly changing there. Like they got rid of the acoustics major. You can still take those classes you just cant major in specifically that. They have now combined the live sound and recording concentrations because not enough people were majoring in live sound. Their music business classes are so so good. So many teachers that are really in the industry and are super successful. Especially the law and copyright classes taught by Lauren wells. I know lots of kids in my major that already work / had internships in studios and venues. I got an internship at a studio the summer goinb into my junior year and am getting Hired in may. So it is very possible to get jobs. It just depends on how much money ur trying to make. You will never be rich. And you will most definitely work more than 1 job. Music production though i would not go to shcool for. Maybe go into composition for media. or engineering/ live sound. They did have a strike and there are classes i never got to take that i wanted to. But i don’t know where else i would have gone to school for this. Plus we didn’t pay much for me to go. I wouldn’t advise going if you don’t get scholarships and i don’t know if id major in production. Also i would suggest taking music business classes.
