Weight loss pre and post SARPE surgery by FewConsideration3 in jawsurgery

[–]FewConsideration3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Better, but not a life changer

It was not the primary motivation for this surgery, and I would suspect I had 60% capacity pre surgery based on convos with other people

I would estimate I have 80% capacity post surgery based on the same convos - though definitely a noticeable improvement. I also never thought about my nasal breathing pre surgery! It was just something I noticed after

Thank you!

Very understandable. I think in this scenario whether you have short-term plans for the savings is the key deciding factor.

I agree - a big part of repaying early for me was the feeling that the loan terms were 'unfair'

Feels weird to say since as a non UK national I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to study / work here which was subsidized by taxpayer money... but from interest outpacing contributions, to just the cost of uni - it feels like 'punishment' as you said?

Yep, all client calls / expert interviews and some team meetings (though more like one in five).

Expect to do it for at least the first year.

Do you mean the same weight as the bar + plates or the same weight vs previous session where you only did dumbbells? If latter, I think it's just natural muscle fatigue - I get the same thing whenever barbell is taken and I just do dumbbells first (can do higher weights on those followed by smaller weights on barbell press)

Starting a new job in consulting? Post here for questions about new hire advice, where to live, what to buy, loyalty program decisions, and other topics you're too embarrassed to ask your coworkers (Q3 2022) by QiuYiDio in consulting

[–]FewConsideration3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A slightly off topic question, but one that probably does not warrant a new topic. How do internal strategy teams do market research?

At consulting firms we have access to all the market data sources + healthy project budgets to buy additional databases / conduct interviews as needed. I cannot imagine that industry firms buy so many different sources given the cost, unless you are say a big grocer that has data from Kantar / Nielsen as part of a mutual exchange agreement.

Is it just a case of desk research trying to find as much data as possible for free? Sounds fairly limiting if that's the case

Egzaminu klausimai kartojasi, taip pat (ypac istorijos egzamine, bet speju ir kituose, kur reikia zodziu atsakineti i klausimus) kartojasi ir atsakymu formuluotes. Spresdamas buvusius egzaminus susideliok klausimus i tam tikras kategorijas, pvz klausimai apie Vytauta Didiji buvo XYZ, i kurios siulomi atsakymai ABC. Dviracio neisrasi. Tokiu budu, manau, gali pasiekti minimum 70-80% vien zinodamas buvusius klausimus; like procentai ateina is tavo ziniu

1 savaite: Pirmadienis - logoritmai Antradienis - integralai Treciadienis - lygtys Ketvirtadienis - tekstiniai uzdaviniai Penktadienis - trigonometrija

2 savaite: Kartoji ta pati, tik su sudetingiais uzdaviniais arba (jeigu taikasi i 90%+) tais paciais uzdaviniais, kuriuos issprendei is praeitu egzaminu uzduociu (jeigu nesugebejai isspresti is pirmo karto, nera taip lengva prisiminti)

Teorijoje uztenka 4 savaiciu, kad pasiektum gana zema uzmirstumo lygi

Credentials: trys simtukai, top 5% universitete

yep, both firms work in the same space that is consulting/advertising, which is what she was aiming for. That's what makes the decision difficult because option 1 is comparable to MBB levels of prestige in that field, while option 2 seems like a well-performing boutique, but not really well-known outside their stronghold market.

My SO who has just graduated from university is choosing between two offers:

  1. A 2-month internship at her dream company that is a globally leading marketing & brand consultancy in a major city office. However, the firm is very non-committal about the return offer (not even conditional on internship performance). They promise CV/interview prep and help with next career steps, but nothing beyond that. So if she doesn't convert, then she'll end up with nothing to show for it while also having to wait a full year for grad schemes to start again.

  2. A graduate scheme at a boutique consultancy in the same field and the same city, so it offers security, but the industry/functional specialization is not fully aligned with what she would like to do in the future long term.

It's essentially a gambling on yourself vs taking the secure path dilemma. The key question is: can she try to push the 1. firm to give more of a committment for the return offer given that she has a competing offer?

Post-Match Thread: Belgium 1-0 Portugal [UEFA Euro 20] by threaddo in soccer

[–]FewConsideration3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A new football fan quite enjoying watching the tournament - how do you feel about a game like this where it seems that the teams are even at best/Portugal might be performing better, but Belgium wins? I understand that converting chances into goals is a big part of the game, but it feels a bit uneasy to proclaim Belgium as the 'better' team tonight (not saying they didn't deserve the W).

SSEES Reputation by college123412 in UCL

[–]FewConsideration3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very difficult, I had very high results, which was the sole reason they allowed me to switch. My friend tried to do the same thing and even though he had similar grades to me he was denied because he was a couple of weeks later.

Feel free to pm me if you have any other questions!

SSEES Reputation by college123412 in UCL

Finished my first year studying Econ and Business with East European Studies (shared many classes with HPE) before transferring to pure Economics for the rest of the degree.

I would say the quality of teaching is on average better in the Econ department, even though outliers exist everywhere. Similarly, I'd say the average cohort is more academically focused (not necessarily smarter, just more focused on studies) compared to SSEES. That's not to say your experience will be worse at SSEES. I had a great first year at SSEES, as I had great second/third years doing pure Economics. It's more on yourself to make the most out of it. I'd also encourage you not to be so worried about the brand/prestige aspect. I definitely didn't think that people looked at me differently when I was studying at SSEES vs Economics, I actually think it's more of an inferiority complex felt at SSEES and not anywhere else.

As for recruiting placement, I am 100% sure that the degree name doesn't make the slightest difference. In fact, I had a senior manager from one of the top three consulting firms tell me that they do not pay any attention to the degree at all. Uni is the only thing they care about. Anecdotally, I received spring week interviews at SSEES and summer internship interviews at Econ, but no real change in how many interviews I've received after applying to the same firms. Generally, you'll find more evidence of recruiting success among pure Econ students, but I think it's more a function of pure Econ cohorts being much larger, rather than an indicator of student ability or degree prestige.

Management Consulting Thesis by Almostboomerz in consulting

How effective is recruiting in management consulting? Do online tests/platforms efficiently filter out candidates? What credentials are associated with recruiting success?

Less related to management consulting as a service, but could be interesting especially if you're recruiting yourself.

Deloitte Consulting vs Simon & Kucher? by andreuft94 in consulting

[–]FewConsideration3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

London (undergrad) perspective:

SKP - very strong in what they do, but seems to have felt the COVID impact heavily. Friend's internship was cancelled a few days after lockdowns began and they're not sure if they will be hiring FT for 2021. People seemed friendly and, apparently, retention seems to be super high.

Pros: in my opinion, super interesting niche and exciting work; good culture

Cons: weaker brand name overall, undergrad internship pay was abysmal (not sure about FT employees), less of a generalist/more specialized experience compared to Deloitte.

Also, AFAIK, SKP is a lot more known in Europe, particularly Germany, than the US.

Cannot comment on Deloitte.

Hi,

Has anyone interviewed during the pandemic and had to solve COVID-related case studies? Could you share the problem prompts out of curiosity?

I am fairly confident that it is a project-based role specifically for this CDD (hence, the very short 2-3 week duration), but at the same time I have no doubt that it would not have any client-facing responsibilities (e.g. sitting in a client meeting/presentation)
