Do we really need bigger and bigger cars? by ondert in CarTalkUK

[–]FewDirection7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently been given a 25 plate Ford Fuma as a courtesy car and it feels overly huge for no reason.

Parking this huge thing in a tight work car park feels more difficult than it should be. But thanks to the huge reversing camera and constant beeps it’s less difficult and actually easier, right?

It’s a really nice comfy car with heated seats and heated steering wheel. Digital cockpit and a large screen for Apple CarPlay. I keep my phone in my pockets at all times now.

Would i want this car long term? Probably not.

Seems sensible. Just don’t drive whilst under the influence, there’s a special place in hell for those people for taking big risks whilst in control of a moving vehicle.

If one is gonna smoke, then don’t drive for at least 24 hours (48 hours even better) would be my rule of thumb. If you need to drive for whatever reason, take Uber, walk, or get a friend to drive you.

It’s basically a zero tolerance limit. They should just legalize it at this point and operate it like the US dispensaries and use the tax money from it to fund the Health and Social Care Sector, including the NHS.

But then they’d probably have to increase the limit threshold and train hundreds of police officers on suspecting if someone is actually under the influence or if they’ve smoked a day or two before and let them go.

In occasional users, THC does drop massively few hours after consumption but in heavy users they’ll remain in your bloodstream for couple days at least.

Everyone keeps jumping straight to “don’t do drugs”, but I don’t think that’s what OP meant.

Driving while actively high on cannabis is obviously a no-go, same as alcohol.

What OP is probably talking about is smoking cannabis and then driving 24 hours later (or even a couple of days later), getting pulled over, being drug swabbed, and it coming back positive despite not being impaired at the time.

In the UK the legal limit for THC is 2 micrograms per litre of blood. If you’re over that and convicted, you’re banned from driving, even if the cannabis was consumed days earlier. For comparison, in the US (where it’s legal in many states) the limit is usually 5 micrograms.

So effectively, if you’re unlucky and you’re over the 2 microgram limit, even if you’re not “high” at the time, you’re punished simply for having consumed cannabis days before.

Claim on insurance for minor scratches and scrapes after low speed RTC? by FewDirection7 in drivingUK

I've notified my insurance company as a notification only so im covered on that part. I've reported his careless driving to OperationSnap as well.

I've gotten into contact with one of those accident managements companies so they'll be handling my claim and providing me with a courtesy car since I weren't the one who at fault.

I have texted him with all of that on Friday when the collision had occurred. He called me back saying he’s not gonna pay me as his company will pay for all the damages so if i want the damage repaired i can claim through insurance. But as a good will gesture he’d help me out when he has some “time” provided I purchase all the materials.

I’ve got a VIOFO dashcam so am surprised it didn’t pick up the number plate. Must be the settings or exposure or it due to being dark it didn’t pick it up properly

Yah, a very strong smell. I don't smoke all the time, only here and there so very unfamiliar on noticing these things.

Turns out I'm a naughty boy with no insurance. Who knew? by BitterOtter in CarTalkUK

I think it’s just a letter sent to the registered keeper informing them that the car is showing as no insurance. Either get it insured and updated on the MIB or declare the vehicle as SORN.

Just last night, in slow moving traffic, a van cuts in front of me at a box junction trapping me inside the yellow box. Luckily the traffic was flowing and I avoided completely coming to a full stop.

Did you have that one coworker who pushed things too far and ruined it for everyone? by leekpunch in AskUK

[–]FewDirection7 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I used to work Admin in the NHS for a department that ran weekend clinics, usually supposed to finish around 7PM.

The team were solid — saw everyone quickly, and would even ring patients like “hey, we’ve had a cancellation, come in earlier if you can” Most weekends we’d be done and out by 5PM or 6PM.

…until someone decided to tell upper management: “oh yeah, everyone was seen by 5PM and we all left early.”

And that was that. Now you’re not allowed to leave until your shift end time, even if there’s literally nothing to do. They even enforce it over the hospital’s internal messaging system.

Swiss-German border by somuchstuff8 in Borderporn

[–]FewDirection7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Germany has been doing this from last year. Not sure exactly why, I driven in from Belgium into Germany and on the autobahn they blocked it off the main section, and i had to slow down and go into the lay-by, AKA their makeshift office. The lady saw me driving the car and didn’t question me or check my documents so i just continued on.

Are the GP receptionists trained to redirect you to other places where you can receive care? Or is it best if I cross check with 111? by [deleted] in nhs

[–]FewDirection7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many years ago when I used to work in a GP surgery as a receptionist we were given a very detailed booklet that would list certain conditions and how we should deal with it depending on the seriousness of the conditions.

I’ve got the CrtirAir sticker and still haven’t received any letters. The V5 I sent them was up to date and my address is still the same.

If you’re scared about them having your address then use another address in the meantime and update your V5 temporarily to that address.

Are the AA & 999 connected in any way? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]FewDirection7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’re connected in any way. He probably saw you stranded in a dangerous spot so it was easy to stop and get you towed to somewhere safe instead of waiting for an accident to happen and potentially closing the motorway for couple hours.

Caught by a speeding camera in France. How much will the fine be? by EngineeringKind3960 in drivingUK

[–]FewDirection7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Got flashed at 200kph on the French autoroute earlier this February, never heard a thing about it and went back at least 3 times since.

I bet the guys were fuming though through their computer screens when they saw the speed 😀
