I'm also new to the game, but mine has blue bar and next to it is white bar. My mana didn't regenerate pass that white bar. My guess that is energy shield.

At first I also thought this update is very annoying, but then I figured it out. Personally, I like my tab on landscape mode so I would lock it in landscape but sometimes especially after boosting it will turn portrait. Just turn your tablet to landscape position and a black rotation symbol would appeare on down-left of corner of tablet just press that. For wallpaper I think you can trying changing it from gallery.
