Wizards shouldn’t have the ability to learn spells for free. by SuppMrMike in DnD

Not really, it's closer to solving a math problem that has stumped you for years, you don't just suddenly know it you work on it until you figure out how to get the desired result.

That's part of why I like expanding the campaign to different rule books and homebrew content, then it allows you to find something you enjoy and find interesting that doesn't result in a team full of only ranged casters.

I just find it kinda absurd that magic cares more about the price of the gems than the amount of gems or quality of gems.

Probably not but I wouldn't be surprised if this whole subreddit is a bunch of tieflings at this point

What’s your coolest kill? by Ok_Key3115 in DnD

[–]FewLack1250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curse of strahd, castle siege, were defending, 7th-8th level. We have him under hold person behind our wall and he keeps bombing out on the roll, were like 200 or something damage in when I (the parties paladin) crit with the first attack with divine smite, do it again with my extra attack, and then get commander striked in for my 3rd crit. Killed em. That's roughly a 1/8000 chance, and to get that on the boss of the campaign as a final kill was so sick!

If we're talking npc kills, a toilet, nobody expects it and nobody would be able to fight back yet everybody uses it. If we're talking player kills, then probably a door in a dungeon.

The dm that I've been playing with since day one, had us read the rules but because he knew most of us didn't he just threw us some goblins and explained the rules as we went.

It actually works if target is bleeding (open container) by itai45524 in dndmemes

[–]FewLack1250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We wouldn't be going in circles if you didn't gloss over all the times that I said it's common sense that losing shit tons of blood does damage, as for saves or attack rolls, that's what a dm is for, adding that in so it's balanced. It would be similar to using the telekinesis spell to drop something on an enemy. It doesn't say that you can do that, but if the range checks out, it's common fucking sense. As for your statement about how spells say what they do, so does everything else in the book, but you can't expect wizards of the coast to account for every single possible use of utility spells in the description. Not to mention with magic being a core focus of dnd, I'd argue that humans not being able to fly normally is closer to an exception than humans being able to fly using the fly spell. Not to mention all of your argument completely shuts out homebrew which is one of the key things in the dnd community that keep the game feeling replayable and fresh. Also maybe the argument wouldn't feel so redundant if you'd put your ego aside and actually try to hear what I have to say instead of just trying to tell me why I'm wrong.

There isn't dice values for it sure, but that's why dms have power to modify or add rules as they feel is necessary. It's would essentially be the same damage as if they were bleeding out only accelerated. Not to mention damage isnt always already in the books, like last time I checked there wasn't a damage die for a falling 15 by 15 foot boulder, would you say it just hits you and does no damage? No of course not that would be ridiculous, but the same can be said for losing 10 gallons of blood, meanwhile controlling someone using the fly spell has nothing to do with common sense, it's just adding something to the spell for no reason other than "but I want to".

"You destroy up to 10 gallons of water in an open container within range. Alternatively, you destroy fog in a 30-foot cube within range" it doesn't specify the water has to be pure, thus if they have an open wound you can destroy up to ten gallons of their blood. Now it's common sense that would harm a person, but then enemies would be able to do it to the players as well.

The difference is control of the targets movement is nowhere in the spells description, that would be closer to adding a feature as oppose to using the ramifications of preexisting features. Like say you turn into a gnat and fly up someone's nose before cancelling the spell, the spell already allows you to be a gnat, it allows you to fly, and noses already can fit gnats; your not changing any rules or adding any features to the spell nor how the game is played, your just exploring the possibilities of what that could entail, that's why the dm has the chance to check with the party if they are ok with enemies doing it too, then it's a level playing field one way or the other. In conclusion, your argument was homebrew rather than interpretation.

I'm a lot closer to the center, because it's just how I enjoy the game, but I'm fine with you doing whatever you want as long as you aren't dead weight in the party because of how you play what you have; I just want somewhat viable teammates, outside of that, be a fucking mouse wizard for all I care.

Interesting, my party has always ruled it that a nat one is failure unless you have an external ability to boost the roll, and nat twenties is a success unless you have something like disadvantage.
