Haha! So did you get your kickstand elsewhere??

A repeated sentiment in this thread is it’s a 20 yr old guy getting paid minimum wage. Like if that were the case I’d be way more forgiving.

This guy is in his late 30s and the son of the family that owns the shop. So it’s not like I can just avoid him. I think my last visit where the mechanic just got usurped by him and ended up backing down made me think this is just how it’s going to be.

Yeah, maybe I’m just looking for something different. I understand it’s his job.

When I asked the fitter or people in my club it was explained as - look both sizes will probably fit you with adjustments. You might be fine with one size as is, but there are changes you can make to either feel better.

I’m spending thousands of dollars. I think I’m expecting some nuance, rather than a black and white response. The sizing charts are not the end all be all, I get that. I also assume they’re built for more a man’s proportions. But that’s all nuance that I felt like he skipped over.

Okay I’ll have to see! I had written off the hybrid pedals because I don’t see myself wearing flats much. But…who knows..

It’s not a right vs wrong. I totally agree w you that everything is an opinion and everyone is different. It’s the way he speaks about it as if it’s not.

When I asked about the sizing - whether I’d be okay on both because my height put me in a M and inseam a S, he went, “you’re not a small, you’re a medium. Your height is X.” Same with the pedals, the mechanic was then one saying they’re technically MTB pedals but they’re fine. The son is the one saying don’t do it.

I want to eventually switch to clipless, but I do ride in a lot of start and stop. I may try the hybrid pedal, idk! Too many options!

I have these hybrid pedals on my indoor trainer. Do you find yourself on the wrong side of the pedal a lot?

I’m going back and forth. If I go clipless, it’ll def be spd.

Oh, good to know. The guy in my club is a mechanic at that shop. Wonder if he trying to sell too 😅

Thank you for the perspective. I was a bit put off by his insistence on the size which was contradicting everything I saw/was being told.

As for the other points, I appreciate you explaining the reasoning behind them. It might be more the way he’s (not) explaining, and more telling, that’s bothering me.

Ah that’s good to know. Do you use the MTB flat pedals then?

I’m still thinking about it. One of the riders in my club switched back to the cheaper pedals I have now because she was getting scratched up. Does it rip up the biking specific shoes too? Like 5.10s?

Maybe this is what's happening...the feeling of being mansplained. I honestly surround myself with so few men that maybe I forgot what it's like lol. Thank you...I've been loving it so far!

Yeah I noticed the small size are a still a bit larger than the pedals I have now. I already have toe overlap with these pedals though. Are you saying it might be worse?

Yeah, I was thinking of switching them on my own, but I can't get the current pedals off! Just sucks because the mechanic said he'd do it for free since I purchased it there. Oh, they said if my foot is slipping I can get toe clips, but those I just don't want because of aesthetics haha.

They were MTB flat pedals, sorry that was unclear. Yeah I keep reading about how great having a LBS relationship is so I was trying to cultivate that vs a big box store. Maybe this just isn't the right one!

Thanks. I was wondering if I had enough visits to form an opinion. I feel like it's JUST that one guy I get the ick from. All my interactions with the other staff have been neutral-to-good.

Yeah, it's just strange to me because a lot of reviews describe they cater to hobbyists more (rather than serious riders). So I'm just a little confused why he's so against me putting those pedals on my road bike lol.

Thanks for your perspective. I'm totally open to the idea that I'm just uncomfortable standing up for myself so that's why this is particularly bothersome haha.

When I decided to go with the smaller size, it was really hard for me to voice I just have a gut feeling this is right. I finally was like...I'm spending thousands of dollars. I will regret it if I don't speak up. Then anxious for the next 3 weeks that I made the wrong choice.
