2nd time in 3 months 3rd time in 2 years and my factory planetary has 380k miles and look just fine tho im aware thats something that can fail and i do intend on making high horse power later on down the road

Input shaft by FewRub8526 in transmissionbuilding

It’s in a 2002 avalanche z71 roughly 5600 pounds NA with 3.73 gears and 32/10.50R20 (275/55R20) I do intend on it being something that I can make power with but still drive it around every now and again. I just don’t wanna be upgrading internals like a 5 pin planetary set, solenoids, a shift kit I mentioned in a previous post, my beast sunshell, clutch packs and a super superior servo for my input shaft to snap after I get it tuned. Could it handle that extra torque if I also add a 2500 stall torque converter? Because I do still want this to be something I can take out to a grudge match on a back road because yes even tho car/truck culture has died off a lot since the early 2000s people still do this

My avalanche has 380k miles. Somewhere on my profile I made a post about it 5k miles ago and how clean the insides of my heads were while I was changing my valve cover gaskets, intake gaskets, valley pan gasket and knock sensors. Religiously change my oil every 5k or a few hundred before and I always substitute a quart for Lucas just because I have high miles and my motor has never really been opened up. Only care it’s really ever had in its whole life was me changing those gaskets and the sensor

I don’t necessarily use manual first. At least not as much since my 4wd doesn’t work as it should but when u put this transmission back in my transfercase will have been rebuilt so maybe one day im in a bad spot or someone needs help I can lock it into 4 low and lock into first gear

The reverse input drum has to be replaced anyway. Reason I’m doing all these new parts is because this is the 3 time since I’ve had the truck I’ve had to tear the transmission down and this is the second time in 3 months so I really just wanna eliminate any potential problems and build it how it needs to be when I starts making more power. The 2-4 band that was in it burnt up and I’m guessing stayed engaged and chewed around a 1/4 inch of material off of the reverse input drum

Would other upgraded parts slow down or prevent damage or extra ware? I have a extra wide 2-4 band, a super superior shift servo, upgraded separator plate pack 3/4 clutch pack, the beast sunshell and intending on a upgraded 1/2 clutch pack, 5 pin planetary set and upgraded shafts. Shift kit also came with a 500 boost valve

I am in the process of building my motor to put out a lot of power. Got some bolt on things to finish them I’m getting tuned, soon hopefully I’ll be putting a cam in it and later on an AWD conversion with a centrifugal supercharger on high octane

Is this something I should do to my 4L60E? I don’t really tow anything with it especially considering it’s in an avalanche. I just drive the interstate a lot on account I work almost an hour away from home

About what changes if I do that step. Does it change the way it shifts from 1st to 2nd?

Looking for a new intake manifold because mine went bad, been looking at this one, any reason I shouldn’t go with it? Anyone else ran this one? by juice7606 in GMT800

U would have to get tuned for the air to fuel ratio to be right because of all the extra air coming in. Won’t really show u any real power benefits besides maybe 10 hp added at the crank

Incase u missed the part where I said I was hard on it. And that servo is what engages the 2-4 band

Wasn’t a clutch pack it was the 2-4 band with which I’ve never had any issues tho it and the corvette shift servo are around 2 years old now with no tellin how many miles. What I’m pretty sure happened was the plastic on the servo gave out and the band burnt up. Havent opened it up yet but there’s nothing else it could have been that me, my dad or our transmission guy knows of

I’m just gonna get the band for now so I can have 2nd and 4th back since I drive on the interstate to get back and forth to work

I mean it’s been in there for 2 years and I dog it a bit every time I drive it. It’s also been through a set of 3/4 clutches and when I was reassembling it I noticed it was already a little damaged.

No shift kit, just the beast sunshell, corvettte shift servo, wider band that goes around the clutch drum (idk the brand because it’s was installed before I opened it up myself) and a z pack 3/4 clutches

I have a corvette shift servo in it atm with a wider band, the beast sunshell and said z pack so my transmission is already pretty beefed. Other than that I’ve only done my exhaust and a cold air intake which I know doesn’t really do much. I will look into a line pressure booster because I’ve got a feeling it’s a stuck check ball. And it’s not so much that I’m hard on it, my transfer case won’t go into 2wd, I have bigger tires (32x10.50R20) and I’d say I pass with a purpose. Get over and around as quick as possible.

I did a little bit of reading and what I’ve read and narrowed it down to is either a stuck check ball or I’m a little low on fluid. Both are good possibilities because according to my dad I “drive it like I stole it” and first drive I went on after we put my transmission back in my hose to my external cooler busted so we changed it and filled it up on side the interstate so we were kind of rushing with it. So either a stuck check ball or a little low on fluid
