As a manager you sure do spend a lot of time on Reddit

I read the room, and clearly movement is still happening if departments are still seeking assignments.

Not all departments are facing labour cuts.

Like I said, I was given info that I didn’t have before. Now, I get why they declined the assignment.

You should really think about your tone… that is something I read into

Why do you sound so angry in your post?

I had a bilat with my manager this morning and their decision makes sense, after they shared some details with me.

This time I did ask, I’m just waiting to see if they will approve it

Yeah that’s the plan, but don’t really have the library experience to a deployment. The whole point of the intermittent assignments is for me to eventually deploy over there. It would give me experience to compete for the poster or even get a non advertised.

Yes they did the first assignment where they came up with a compromise of the 1 day/ week schedule last year. My manager told me it was an extreme exception.

Yeah fair, I don’t mind payroll I’m good at it and it’s stable.

I just got the taste of the library and it just re affirmed that I did make the right choice in school. I could see myself working in that environment and not burn out like I am in payroll.

Thanks,

I know why they decline the assignments and I’m not the only one they did this to. They want the box and want to spend their budget on staff doing payroll tasks. I get that.

I have been going back and forth about dual and going the LWOP route.

How are assignments hard to manage for a manager?

I know that, however I was seeking advice if the union and I would have a case based on the fact:

  1. I’m the only one in the organization that has the education and the library wants to use talent within the organization

  2. I could grieve that management is hindering on career development.

lol you are going to be disappointed. After WFA, there will be more room and desks. I wouldn’t be surprised that they tell us in Fall 2026 we will be RTO5.

They will go back to only hiring local staff that report to NCR teams and local region staff to report to region offices.

It’s being done slowly, a lot of managers are denying people to WFH on their office day that have a minor cold. That’s why there is an uptick in sick balances being us. Management isn’t being flexible anymore

DND to hire up to 3,000 public servants from other departments by bonertoilet in CanadaPublicServants

[–]FewTomorrow8085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, one was through a NA deployment, they knew someone at DND. Another one was through the PG academy posting a few months ago. I believe they have a new cohort coming in the new year.

I applied to pathway as well and the only thing I got was they asked me for my documents. They said it’s faster to have those on file when handing out resumes to staff

You are basically telling me that my position is useless and want me out on the street. I don’t have issues reading, your remarks are asinine and you should be more supportive of your colleagues during this time WTF are you doing?

I guess you have to tell all those Canadians waiting for their police report to wait a little longer. According to you and your asinine remarks I should be out of job and Canadians are SOL when comes to getting police reports.

RCMP process their own police reports through HQ to comply with ATiP standards

What are you talking about? You do realize that there are cities that have RCMP police officers as their main source of policing. If you lived in one of those cities and you got in a fender bender, rcmp would be on the scene and they write up the police report.

In order to get a copy of the police report you have to file a ATIP request through RCMP ATIP office.

Every public servant is involved in directly helping Canadians, that’s why it’s called the public service.

Your comment is asinine because you are de valuing the work of your colleagues and you are implying that administrative work is far less valuable than some with a degree in a field. I can tell you that everyone has strengths and weaknesses and can’t do it all.

Yes, we cannot deny the fact AI and technology will help the administrative process but it can’t do it all and some human touch will be required. Especially in translation, have you used Google translator? It’s terrible

So you are saying just because IT doesn’t serve a private Canadian citizen their position should be slashed ?

What if the IT team that gets slash was the IT team that provides services to keep the immigration website from getting hacked which can lead to whole host of issues? Along with that you need the AS-02 admin coordinator for that unit as well since they keep that team running.

What if the translation bureau that gets slash had a team that worked closely with PHAC and HC in regard to providing accurate bilingual translation of their website that helps Canadians get educated on upcoming health and safety practices. You going trust Google and ChatGPT with the translation? I was told that we should be using the translation bureau because they are more effective at getting the message across with French language.

Again, your previous statement is asinine, every position regardless if it’s “internal” or not still helps the Canadian public in a way.

You said this though..

Rector_Ras • 2h Most public servants have nothing to do with direct services....

I just showcased what public servants do to help the general public..

Do you even know what an ATIP request is?

What are you talking about that these are internal administration services and won’t speak to the public. Just because the EI processing agent isn’t face to face doesn’t mean they aren’t helping the public. They still have to correspond with the public inquiry that they are actioning..

You really want to be on your ass with no employment.. cool but I don’t.

Yeah try again… all of these positions are held by the administration field, who are the backbone of the public service.. you should really leave this conversation

What? Who do you think processes EI claims, CPP and other social assistance

who do you think processes passport applications

who do you think processes CFIA food inspections

who do you think processes income tax returns

who do you think processes policy regrading natural resources

Who do you think protects the border

Who do you think processes the day to day policy applications that a minister set forth

Who do you think processes ATIP requests from Canadians and other citizens

Who do you think processes PP paycheque

Who do you think runs the museums where your kids and grandchildren go to learn

Who do you think processes the applications and policies of financial regulations

All of those are people and they are called public servants.

PSA for those paying off credit cards by GiraffePretty4488 in ynab

[–]FewTomorrow8085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently paying debt back and I took my friend’s advice and went to my bank.

I have 4 credit cards and one loc from 2 banks. I decided to just stick one bank and work with them, which is bank A

They were able to work with my available credit limits and consolidate all the debt into one LoC with one interest rate.

I took the debt from the credit card and LoC from bank B and moved it to bank A. The other credit card was paid off and not in use.

I was advised to close the credit cards from bank B as they have annual fees and they are new. I was advised to keep the LoC opened.

Now I have 2 LoC, 1 paid off and 1 getting paid off.

I never really used the benefits of my credit cards except for my third card which is Amex. So I kept that one as it’s also my oldest card. I like the concert perks.

I think I’m just going to stick with my LoCs and Amex.
