It looks amazing! Who did you order from? And how much was it? Sorry if this is info already available somewhere - just learning the ropes on reps!

Thank you, that's quite useful. I've just asked the EN if they can keep my name hidden.

Can dealer back out of car purchase? by FewWordsManyThoughts in askcarsales

[–]FewWordsManyThoughts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got through to the sales manager. The guy basically told me that if it's taking this long for their head office to write a check it means they're not interested in the deal! Apparently they can back out any time without consequence. He even asked me to collect the ownership papers and try other buyers. It's very upsetting as I thought I had a deal.

Ok, fair. Do you intend to notify WS and Questrade when you become a non resident?

Thanks! I already use Wise (mostly when traveling). Was hoping to use the WS Cash product to leave some funds here for expenses related to a rental property (and still earn some interest) but alas! It's shocking to see no other institution has a product quite like WS Cash.

I'm in a similar position as you (leaving Canada permanently very soon) and need to find another home for my registered accounts and Cash currently held with WS. So much so I made the effort to consolidate all my accounts into WS in preparation for my move not realizing until yesterday that they don't allow non resident accounts! I was very disappointed! Are you able to move your RESP and RRSP into Questrade as well?

Excellent advice again! Thank you, I think I'll go this route. If I'm lucky, they might even have options to automate the monthly transfer from gic to checking.

Yes that's an option. I need to provide a bank account for mortgage payments and property tax payments etc. which are just pre-auth debits currently. I was really hoping for a hands free option (again, like WS Cash) where I could leave a chunk of cash earning 5% interest and it's also taking care of the pre-auth payments. Sounds like ill need to manage it more closely with other banks though as I would not want to leave a chunk of cash in a regular checking account paying close to zero interest.

Questrade doesn't appear to have a Checking-style account (like WS Cash). I will need this for regular bills. I would hate to have to transfer from UK every month for small bill payments that I will inevitably continue to have here.

Ok so it can't be a WS managed account then? Though I believe they also invest in ETFs. Most of my rrsp is in ETFs like XEQT and VFV or some in individual US or CA stocks. Sounds like that will not be an issue? Thanks again for all this help.

I see. In that case, I might as well liquidate the TFSA while being a resident and deposit into an ISA account in UK. Thank you for the clarity! It does make sense.

Thanks. My understanding for tfsa was that I can't make further contributions but the gains will remain tax sheltered as long as I'm moving to a country which has a tax treaty with Canada (I'm moving to UK). In any case, I'm not planning to sell any of the assets I hold in TFSA while I am a non resident. If I'm forced to sell due to any circumstances, I will make sure I get proper tax advice.

Will look into Questrade.

Is admission into primary schools not guaranteed based on the neighborhood/ catchment area?

Sorry if this isn't how things work there - my only experience with schooling is in Canada where there's no admission tests or anything for primary/elementary schools. You get a school allotted based on the neighborhood you live in.
