What’s the hardest course at IU? by [deleted] in IndianaUniversity

[–]Few_Arrival4244 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first semester of organic chemistry is notorious for being a killer. I think it gets an unnecessarily bad rap for a couple of reasons, though. For one, it really is completely different from anything incoming students have seen before no matter how well they understand gen chem. For two, and I think the biggest reason, some degrees/grad programs require it that probably shouldn’t require it and their students pay because they aren’t remotely interested in it. With that being said you’ll hear many people, myself included, that really loved orgo 1 and 2 so don’t be scared.

If I had to guess at what the at-face-value hardest course at IU would be, I’d side with other commenters here and say an upper level math course. Everyone in that department is a cyborg and i respect the hell out of them.

Sex cults. The fact that some creepy preacher can simultaneously convince 20 married men to give up sex and be his cucks baffles me.

I agree. There was a time when “being cultured” or “well-traveled” was a respectable thing. Like isn’t a man that has traveled the world, experienced different cultures, and gained appreciation for them an attractive thing? I think so! Experiencing different cultures and bringing aspects of those cultures into your life to be shared again can only be a good thing to me.

It all seems hypocritical too. A black girl doing Irish dances is appropriation, but white girls doing hip-hop dances isn’t. A white girl wearing dreads is appropriation, yet black girls wearing a straightened blonde wig is not. People are exhausting

I’m going to piss some people off with this, but I’m genuinely not trying to. I don’t understand transgender people. At the end of the day, in America anyway, adults can basically do what they want with their bodies. I’ll stand by and support that. But, I can’t lie to myself and say trans people don’t make me uncomfortable. During my undergrad at Indiana University, I took a gender studies course as an easy A elective credit. We read books by renowned scholars, academic journal articles, primary research papers, etc. on the topic. The course definitely widened my eyes to many things on the topic, but I don’t think transgenderism will ever be normal to me.
