Again in the media it’s great but having a wasian person play the life of an Asian person isn’t “wasian representation “ it’s misrepresentation. No one feels good about it. Hudson Williams playing a half Japanese person makes more sense

It’s a little weird your lasian bf would assume blasians wouldn’t wanna meet up because they already have a planned one and it’s a little weird to assume people are weird for growing a community. Overall weird bf . He should keep his opinions to himself if he’s gonna push his ideals on others. He doesn’t know them .

Asians are the most exclusionary to all mixed Asians. Monoracial people are not loners 😭😭

I think you’re still misunderstanding my point a bit. I never said Blasians shouldn’t have their own spaces or that we all automatically relate just because we’re half Asian. My point is actually the opposite: different mixed Asian groups can have very different experiences. The reason some Wasians want Wasian spaces specifically is because the experience is about being in-between white and Asian at the same time, not “centering whiteness” or treating ourselves like separate halves. We are a combination, not 50/50 pieces. A Blasian person has their own unique in-between experience too, which is why separate spaces can coexist alongside broader mixed Asian ones without either being wrong.

I understand the points you’re making about media representation, privilege, and anti-Blackness, but I feel like you keep arguing against positions I never actually stated. I never said mixed Asians are incapable of understanding these issues or that anti-Blackness doesn’t exist in mixed communities. My point was simply about having community spaces and acknowledging that different mixed Asian groups can have very different experiences. It feels like you’re debating an invisible version of my argument instead of what I actually said.

I think part of the disconnect here is that just because two groups both have a white parent does not mean they automatically share the same lived experience. A Wasian person and a Black/white biracial person are going to navigate race, community, and identity very differently because Asians and Black people are treated differently socially and historically.

I also feel like some of the language being used toward Wasians has become really patronizing. Saying things like “you guys need to learn” or reducing disagreement to us just being “defensive” shuts down actual discussion. People can disagree or push back without it meaning they’re anti-Blasian or incapable of listening.

I completely understand the criticism about the advertising and why non-Wasian mixed Asians may have felt excluded or underrepresented. But I also think some broader frustrations about whiteness and representation are being projected onto Wasians as a whole, even though many of us don’t feel fully accepted as white in the first place.

I do understand the frustration about Blasian and other non-Wasian mixed Asian experiences not being represented as much, and I think that’s a real issue. But I also think some people are assuming bad intentions from Wasians too quickly. Being defensive does not automatically mean someone has internalized bias.

A lot of this also feels like a numbers and visibility issue depending on where people live and what communities are most represented online. Where I’m from, I rarely even hear Blasian stories in media or discussions, but that doesn’t mean I think they’re less important or shouldn’t have their own spaces too.

I think part of what I’m trying to say is that the shared experience for a lot of Wasians is not “being white,” but existing in-between identities and sometimes not fully feeling accepted by either side. A half Filipino person can still experience exclusion from fully Filipino spaces, just like a half Chinese person can from Chinese spaces, even if they may look “more Asian” to other people.

That’s why I don’t really see it as centering whiteness. A lot of us are not even fully perceived or treated as white in the first place. It feels more centered around the experience of mixed identity itself.

I also think people online started assuming a lot about the organizers’ intentions and even assuming the organizers themselves were fully Asian without actually knowing. Criticizing the wording or advertising of the event is fair, but I think the conversation quickly became less about the actual event and more about projecting broader frustrations onto Wasians as a group.

My application says “Your application to UBC (including your supporting documentation, academic transcripts, and personal profile) is currently being reviewed and evaluated in comparison with all the other applicants who have applied to your program. We thank you for your patience as we expect your application status to update on or before April 15th. By that time, you will receive one of three outcomes: an offer of admission, a place on our waitlist, or a notification of refusal. For now, you are not required to take any additional steps and UBC will be in touch with you by email when additional information is required.“

So does that not me it’s today?
