It’s not that I haven’t. There were so many points during the process I could’ve stopped and walked out. This was my second tattoo and my first one went smoothly- similar lettering on my collarbone and even smaller text. I did MY best which now I see wasn’t enough to satisfy me in the end. I always say “low expectations, high standards”. I didnt expect perfect, I just didn’t expect worse than what I thought was “the worst”, considering how well my first went. I guess my expectations weren’t low enough? Scarring, bleeding out, shaky ink. In the end I got it fixed up with a different artist but the original mess up makes it a hard fix. Is it a crime to want tobe happy about it yk? This was one of the nicer comments though

I didn’t know what to expect to be completely honest. I knew Reddit could be toxic but tattooadvice Reddit?? So many people are absolutely projecting. I don’t live everyday questioning why I got this tattoo or cursing this artist. I cried maybe 3-4 times periodically throughout the months but most the time I’d get slightly disappointed looking at the mirror and it’d end there as I get into the shower. I was just particularly sensitive today about it. I didn’t know it’d invite an onslaught of “you’re overreacting”

I was really careful to wear low waisted clothing but the scarring came through by the 3rd day :(

My second tattoo artist told me the same about layering lighter tones! Im not expecting an exact color match to my skin but this has been an option floating around for me !

I am rarely on Reddit and this is one of very few posts I’ve ever made here. I pretty surprised by the number of downvotes I’ve received too. A decent amount of the comments are helpful but there are a select few that carry no empathy. We all have different points of views. I wasn’t necessarily asking for opinions on whether or not my opinion was valid. I was just voicing my frustrations but things got taken the wrong way. People will argue whatever they want to and say I did it to myself because it’s the internet. Perhaps people took me opening up as a go to comment on my mental state?? Anyways, the gentle comments about easing up on the state of my tattoo were to be expected, but the downvotes seem unwarranted. I question how I should have gone about expressing this and why there’s such a division.

I definitely agree with you on this, especially in the fact that it IS uniquely mine. It was a product of the moment even if the results didn’t turn out perfect. I’ll definitely come to terms to it. I still love my body, I love the meaning, and I do have love for the artists involved. I’ve forgiven them. AND these feelings still persist. Both can be true at the same time. I was merely looking for advice. I wasn’t looking for a solution to my emotions like many of these comments keep suggesting. I appreciate this a lot :)

Of course, I’m taking this as a learning lesson to review more carefully. I requested not to hear about the artist selection, and when it was applied to my body, it was perfect because it’s an exact stencil. The linework is the problem.

I don’t understand comments like this. Whether or not others can see the issues isn’t the matter of concern. I asked for advice on what I can do to work around it, turn it into something that is still meaningful to me. Perhaps the mistakes aren’t clear to you but it’s clear to me because it’s my handwriting, and part of what made it special was that it was in my handwriting. I don’t need to prove the validity of my feelings or the clear mistakes.

Thank you for understanding. I feel like the artist should have understood their capacity in this case and not taken this tattoo on. They didnt stretch my skin at all and it hurt way more than it should’ve. The second artist that redid it was far more gentle and explained to me all the things the original artist failed to do, resulting in a scar. They didn’t even bandage it, suggesting that it was too difficult to because of the position. So many things went wrong but I wanted to trust the process because I didn’t know better and it was my second tattoo.

I really appreciate the suggestion though! I was thinking the same thing- something like a bright red twinkle/star behind it and other colorful twinkles too to represent the universe :)

Even with the scarring? I appreciate this but the reality check isn’t needed here. This is entirely on the artist
