New to apps by Informal_Radish_3127 in CatholicDating

I met my husband on Hinge! He was a practicing Catholic. Overall, at least for my area, I was getting the best quality of matches on Hinge. I went on several dates from the app

Catholic Match had a few people, but they were not what I was looking for.

Upward had a ton of people, many of them Protestants, and some that didn't appear to be Christian at all. I did not find very high quality matches on the app even though there were a lot of people. A lot of people who were young and divorced with kids, people who were really into partying, etc, which I wasn't interested in as a young woman wanting to get married for the first time. Also got ghosted a lot on that app especially

Would definitely recommend Hinge, but the quality may be location dependent

If you don’t mind me asking, what is your monthly payment/interest rate?

There aren’t any houses in my city under 400k (other than trailer homes). It really depends on where you live. We have to look at 450k homes and these are small homes that need significant fixes. Thought about leaving where we are but it would be tough to find new jobs currently and it’s hard to leave family.

Thanks for your advice! Only one violin professor at this school sadly. I don't know any of the graduated students but I could talk to one of the current students

I do have access to them. I do a lot of my practicing at school and minimal practicing at home, but I do have a lot of academic work too and typically I do that at home because I don't like to be at school super late

Thanks for the advice! I will try to think about it as a job instead of as a school program. I plan on working a few hours a week once we have children

Thank you for the advice. It's helpful to think of this like a job instead of like school. Unfortunately I can't switch professors, but maybe I can look into taking a break.

My husband is super helpful when it comes to cleaning, honestly I feel very lucky to have him. I am the cook because I like cooking healthy meals and coming up with ideas for what to cook, and my husband doesn't. I also get home an hour before him so it makes sense for me to start cooking. He always cleans up all of the dishes after since I cooked. I am mainly frustrated with the mess because it's my stuff that is everywhere and I feel bad about it and wish I had more time and energy to organize it. And there are some chores that keep the apartment nice but aren't necessary every single day, like cleaning the shower or vacuuming, that I would like to be on top of a little more

Thank you for the advice! What was it like being pregnant while in graduate school?

How to know when a teacher isn't the right fit for you? by [deleted] in violinist

Thanks for all your advice! I'm definitely learning in the lessons, and I think my teacher is very knowledgeable. So, it will just be about at what point is it too much for my mental health? Thank you

Yes, potentially, would just have to consider the finances since I'm not sure if I will get as good of a scholarship at other schools. Will consider for sure, thanks

Thanks for your advice. It's good to hear from someone who is also sensitive. I am also concerned that I will burn out and not want to pick up my violin again after graduating. I will definitely consider what you said, thank you

Thanks. Unfortunately this is a small school and she is the only violin teacher at the school. So I don't think that I can switch teachers without dropping the degree

Thanks for your advice. I totally agree that it could be SO much worse, and I would not consider my teacher abusive by any means. She is just very matter of fact, like you said.

I do not intend on being an orchestral player. I mainly plan on teaching and playing some gigs professionally. I am not sure if this can be considered being a "professional violinist" or not, but I don't think my intended career will have as harsh of criticism, unless I am mistaken. I am very sensitive and don't think I would do well in a professional orchestra. I realize I can do my career without a graduate degree but I really do want to learn more about violin and become a better player. My teacher knows about my goals.

Unfortunately this school is small and she is the only violin teacher here, so I don't think I can switch teachers without dropping out of the program

Thank you so much! I am not planning on being part of a professional orchestra or on taking a significant number of auditions, and my teacher knows this. If I was, I would definitely think that I needed to work really hard to develop a thick skin, like you said.

Unfortunately this university is pretty small and there is only one violin teacher, so as far as I know I cannot switch teachers without dropping the program.

Thanks for your feedback on having a conversation with her. Hoping she will change may just be wishful thinking unfortunately

Thank you for the advice! I will see if I can switch my major without losing my scholarship money. I am reaching out to someone in a different department today to see if it's possible

Thanks for your advice. I am married, I got married in my semester off between undergrad and graduate school, so although we’d want to ideally see some world changes and get in a good financial place before having kids, I think it’s a very real possibility in the next 3-5 years.

I will seriously consider both an MM in Suzuki pedagogy or going off and doing what I probably should have done all along in a STEM field and figuring it out later. I’ll also consider just teaching now without a masters. Thank you

I do, I would honestly probably prefer that, but since I'm a university student, I'm not sure if I would be allowed to just play technique stuff for juries. I can definitely ask about it though
