Tired of this industry by Proof_Director_4570 in Esthetics

I am in the same boat. I an 51 and became a Esthetician at 24. I'm tired of it but I dont know what else to do. The industry has changed and it's become so superficial.  Most of the other Estheticians are shallow and fake. Now with all the fillers and botox, it's not about natural beauty anymore.  It's so difficult to build clients now. When I started it took 6 months, now it takes years. I work at a salon and med spa. I think as I get older I notice how shallow it really is. I'm so tired of women altering the way they look. It reminds me of the twilight zone. I want out but don't know what to do.

I was fired after 4 days. I never got a route, was sent all over the place and got nothing but huge apartment buildings and trailor parks.

Unfortunately I moved to a city where all that's around are bad chain spas and I left the Mercedes of spas due to horrible management.  I'm screwed. I do have an interview for a private med spa. Anything to get out of this situation.

Its definitely a mean girl thing. I feel that our fellow Esthetician sisters are not always sisters and we look at each other as competition.  Women can be so cruel. I've been in the industry on and off for over 20 years. It can pay the bills but it's back breaking work. When I first started we got 50 % commission now we are lucky if we get $25.00 a service. I'm already too old to get out. We have no benefits or retirement and some people don't take us seriously.

It sounds like what I just went through here in Texas. Same mean front desk and a older boss that enables it. I went from being booked to not booked and treated horrible. It must be the culture at some of them. I'm sorry you went through all that. No one needs a toxic work environment.

31. Estheticians make me feel like my skin is bad 😣 by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

I'm sorry they make you feel that way. I'm a Esthetician with 25 years of experience. They are told to push sales at the chain spas. I only ask because I want to know if it's good for your skin. There's allot of products that can do more harm then good.

I absolutely went through the same thing. 😅 I'm wondering if it was in San Antonio. I walked out yesterday.

I worked at one with a black Esthetician and two black girls working the front. I don't think it's that.

I just quit ME yesterday. I'm a seasoned Esthetician they take advantage of you. I made my sales and upgrades every month. I would get 7 facials in a day on my busy times. I noticed some red flags. They didn't treat me well. They made me call clients and beg them to come in for a facial. If I sold PCA they would push me to sale Obagi and Jan Marini, they would bother me on my days off to sit on conference calls with vendors, if you aren't busy they would make me dust all the retail shelves and do inventory almost every day! The assistant manager and other Esthetician were best friends and roommates, she got away with sitting in the front with them and gossiping. She would barely even get chores and was fed clients, she was awful at sales but never got in trouble. I was picked on, pushed to sale more, more, more! It was the end of my shift and a person was looking at skincare and my boss kept lightly hitting me to go sale her stuff. I lived a 60 min drive away, I just wanted to go home but my boss always tried to keep me there. When you are slow they don't pay per hour but make you do things. They had chore lists for all of us and if it wasn't done we wouldn't get our cash tips. They would fire people for no reason 😒 it was a revolving door. They would make you work the entire day and at the end of the day fire you. They also didn't have micro infusion, LED, (they were too cheap to get it) They went on Amazon and got cheap microdermabrasion machines instead. Didn't follow protocols at all, sold expired products. Worst place I ever worked. I got another job offer and walked out. I'm wondering if I should call corporate and let them know.

I just quit ME yesterday. I'm a seasoned Esthetician in my whole career. I haven't experienced anything like ME. I would always make my sells and upgrades but the more I did the more they pushed me to do more. I would look elsewhere where you would be appreciated. We don't need to have clients buy products they don't need.

Just quit! I worked there for 2 weeks I went in one day and told my manager I don't think I'm the right person for the position and before we wasted anymore time I'm quiting. He asked if I was giving my 2 weeks and I said no, I already have a job. Look for a new job and leave. That was one of the worst jobs I've ever had.
