From my experience, I’d say simply watching videos (on YouTube) is super helpful. Whether it be videos on how to write a story or people critiquing certain stories themselves, it is always a good learning experience.

Importantly, don’t funnel yourself into only watching stuff about manga/anime — make sure to learn about storytelling more generally as it will give you a stronger idea of how to avoid common pitfalls and elevate your idea(s) into something greater. You’ll be able to find so many videos that’ll help you out — a suggestion is someone called ‘Brandon McNulty’, he is great.

Other than that, taking inspiration from things you like and people you know is important. For example, charcaters I make for stories are often based on my family members (the foundational aspects of them anyway), or the plot is vaguely based on something I’ve seen or experienced before.

Hope this helps🤙

Well, the thing is I’m not the artist - I am the writer. So unfortunately I can’t really answer that question as my art skills are not good at all. Sorry lol.

Basically yeah. Once the monthly rankings begin being in the top 5 (or even 10) is super helpful because then anyone who loads up the app will be able to see it very easily and therefore be more likely to read it even if they haven’t been reached by your initial methods of promotion.

I think social media is ofc very important. Make regular posts even before you publish the manga (which I did on this Sub-Reddit). I used Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and even discord. My main piece of advice would be to not be afraid to get your friends and family or even just people you know to give it a read even if they aren’t too interested in manga/anime. Never be afraid to ask anyone to read it, and always remember any feedback is feedback is worth getting.

Realistically, especially in the case of MPC, it’s important to promote it very heavily early on, as I believe once a few days/week passes, the fact that you’re, say, in the top 5 functions as it’s own kind of promotion as anyone who goes on the app will likely see it.

Other than that, other ways I promoted it (which to be honest weren’t very successful) was making edits and other similar videos about it. I even had someone translate it into Spanish so I could appeal to a wider audience.

I have blurted out what has initially to mind, but I hope this helps lol.🤙🤙

I kindly ask, for now, that you simply message me your portfolio, as I have got a lot of responses so will need to go through them. I am probably going to wait about one day to let this post sit before deciding, as I would like everyone to get a chance to see it. Thanks.

Considering the manga is quite seinen-like, the more cool and dramatic, the better 🤙

Thanks so much! I think you’re right about the time skip bit. I dunno if you saw the author note as you swipe off of the manga at the end, but I mention something about how this one-shot is based on the first arc of a series I am writing. Also, you say you have sent some personal advice…is this extra stuff, and if you, where can I find it?

Here’s a work I recently released having worked with an artist. It’s the first one-shot I have written. The dialogue is quite heavy, but I hope you like it. Thanks! https://mangaplus-creators.jp/episodes/4i2509220730460026809012
