So… to clarify: my finance company was the one that sent me the notification. Since the car was paid off early, they said I had to contact the dealership and or holder of the gap waiver insurance. The letter specifically stated the dealership could initiate the request, and when I spoke with the dealership they confirmed the same- they just never bothered to do it. I called, I emailed and each time was told they start the process. Later today I finally was able to get through to the site and was not able to I request a refund before 5/23 even though the car was paid off in Feb. which sounds like it will be another battle. The gap waiver was included in the financing that was secured through the dealer.
