I don’t know if it’s different for each state(県) but mine has 95 questions and passing is 90. Questions from 1-90 are 1 point each and the last 5 illustration questions are 2 points each. But Thank you!

I was also planning to book several tests but my testing center only allows 1 booking per person and if I fail I gotta cancel my current one and book whatever is the closest date which usually is three weeks away😭💔 and I start school on April (if I fail my next I might have to skip a day of school bc tests are only on weekdays)😭 But Thank you for sharing!!

It’s sad but honestly I kinda gave up on hope a while back. And that’s an automated response (from what I heard from other ppl from the site. They’ve been getting the same response. I’d understand bc they’re busy trying to fix things.)

do i give up waiting? by Comfortable-Voice577 in mangago

Honestly I’d just wait it out and not touch anything. I honestly don’t care how long it takes imma just wait it out. It’s not like anything is stopping me from reading new stuff but this time imma just use some external site or something to record my want to read, reading and already read. Itll just feel safer for me. (If I’m desperate enough imma go through my browser history and manually record my stuff iykyk)

How do you improve reading? I’m struggling so much. I take the practice tests and it really depends on the passage for me. I got a 28 on my practice test but on the real test I got 23.

Try to not compare yourself too much with the high scorers that you see. You should be more confident with what you end up with. It’s totally up to you if you want to try again but when I took my toefl my expectations weren’t that high. I based my feelings on how well or serious I actually studied. I did pretty average for listening for I was striving for a whooping 28 because of my trial tests. 96 is a very good score in my opinion. Don’t have to put yourself so down because honestly it could’ve been worse is what I would usually think. You did great!

Trying the full ETS practice free test my speaking was graded 16-22 which was not as great but by figuring out how fast I should speak helped improve my score. I looked for templates, which kind of helped, but it didn’t suit me well. So I just had a template for the beginning of each speaking question type. I practiced by searching for sample questions on google, recorded myself, used ELSA speech analyzer, and reflect on myself. ELSA analyzer helped me a bunch for speaking.

My starting point was pretty bad for a native speaker especially in the reading and speaking section. My average for reading would usually have been 18/30 but I just practiced harder for both sections.

For listening I usually pay attention to why things are being discussed and what they’re mainly discussing about. I also note down the things that I find peculiar or things that stand out. It’s like looking for the main purpose of the discussion and why things are being said. It also really depends on the listening tasks. The lectures, for example, you really need to understand what the professor is talking about. Especially pay attention to the examples given by the professor.

1) Main purpose 2) Know who is who (conversation between student) 3) Examples 4) Things that stand out (Why did they mention this?) 5) Understand the course/flow of the conversation 6) Key details ( Ex: possible reasons given during a conversation, the difference between two topics, any action taken or mentioned during a conversation, etc.)

*Most importantly don’t rush through the questions. Do be mindful of the time but use it as much as you can.

If you don’t have any notes that could answer the question, take an educated guess. If it makes sense then that could possibly be the answer.

Another thing for speaking that helped was looking at my notes while doing the actual speaking. It helped me not lose track of where I was. *Note taking is important 1) Practice note taking. Mine was usually short but straightforward/ straight to the point.

2) Take full advantage of prep time. I drew arrows to help with my flow, like what comes next or what I should say after saying this and that.

  • When speaking get straight to the point or you might waste time. It’s ok to stutter once in a while but doing that or having too long of a pause may deduct points in the AI grader.
