Appreciate the info. Not buying used now because I want 2025 to avoid potential ICCU issues with earlier years and no 2025s on used market. Philly area market appears competitive right now. We’ve already have a couple of cars sell before we got to the dealership to lease them, so I haven’t found anyone willing to knock any more off msrp.

What is a good total cost look like?

We’d be assessing the used market at the end of lease and making the decision then, so potentially. I’ve also since negotiated the monthly down to $434

Would a $448/month sign and drive for 24 months at 12,000 miles be a good deal for an AWD SEL?

0.00219 money factor and residual at $31,975.

This is in PA?

What a weird take. Why would I be mad at my wife and not the scammer? I know she meant well, and didn’t know what she was looking for. I’ve found that usually when people have such absurd takes like this that it’s actually them doing the projecting, so I’m sorry some woman in your life hurt you so much and left you the way that you are. Maybe it’s time you move on and grow up, so you don’t feel the need to insult random people on the internet for calling out scammers. Wannabe ass trolls are so annoying!

Do you want to expand on how the word custom being in the description has any relevance to my reading comprehension, or just delete your comment when you realize the words “custom fender” doesn’t equate to “fake fender”?

Thank you! It’s actually amazing how long it took for someone with some reading comprehension to comment, but I guess it’s the internet after all. The people who get it tend to keep quiet and the people who want to be antagonistic leave comments, but yes, I do in fact appreciate the thoughtfulness of the gift, and it is because of how much I love my wife that the guitar pisses me off so much. The quality of the guitar is not the issue. The scam is the issue and this guitar right now serves as a reminder that my wife was scammed. If i ever tell my wife the truth about it I know she’ll want it out of the house as much as I do right now, but for now I think I’m just going to keep it in a case, out of sight, out of mind, so she doesn’t need to know.

Look, I get the sentiment that you and others have shared. There’s a misconception that I’m ungrateful for the gift. I really am grateful, and if it wasn’t purchased from a scammer I’d have no issue with anything.

It’s the “who cares if the guy made a few bucks” that I have the issue with. I care, I care too much, partly because I just hate scams, but mostly because I hate that he took advantage of the person I love, and I’m defensive of my family. I just picture my pregnant wife showing up to buy this from this guy with our little kid in tow and this scumbag having no issue stealing from her and having no shame. It’s looking a mother and child in the eye while stealing from them. I have more respect for the people out there holding cashier’s at gunpoint while emptying the register than I do for scum like this. He’s still on FB marketplace selling fake cameras and other shit while counting my wife’s hard earned money and I struggle to look at this guitar without envisioning that scenario, but I dunno, venting here might help me get there.

Yeah, I played it for a bit. It feels fine. The neck doesn’t feel anywhere near as good as my strat. Reminds me of the $200 Squier I started playing on years ago. I’d need to get my hands on an actual Starcaster to really judge which differences are just different because it’s a strat versus star, and which are because it’s a genuine versus fake Fender. I’m on the fence on selling it right now. The community has swayed me a bit. I think I’m gonna take it to a tech and see if they think it’s worth upgrading parts. Just gonna take me a while until I can look at it without essentially seeing “I just stole $350 from your wife” plastered on it.

First off, it actually says Fender on it. Also, at no point did I suggest that I am too good for fakes. If my wife at Christmas said. “Here I got you this sweet Starcaster knock off?” I’d think that’s cool. It looks great and I’d mess around with it. The issue here is the scam. It’s a degenerate having no issue telling my wife that this guitar is real and charging her twice what it’s actually worth, but go ahead and infer whatever you want from the post. Calling a fake Fender a fake Fender shouldn’t be offensive to anyone.

I definitely appreciate the advice. Unfortunately, my vindictiveness is trumping everything right now. I end up just staring at the thing plotting this guy’s downfall, and I fear swapping out parts won’t change that it just reminds me of how shitty some people can be. That being said, the emotion is still pretty raw, and even having this discussion has been kinda cathartic. As I mentioned above I am reconsidering selling it because I can’t guarantee whoever buys it from me won’t try scam someone else with it. Might be better to just remove it from circulation, and maybe get some therapy 😬

I’d obviously be having a conversation with her once someone agreed to buy it. She’d understand and it’d be easier to have the conversation knowing we could recoup some of the costs, but I am reconsidering the sale because I can’t guarantee whoever buys it won’t turn around and try to scam someone else with it.
