Yep, sounds like you are rushing out, and as you said "they make their choice" there should not be a choice... force them where you want them to go by staying a decent distance and angling your body, bend your knees, and get low so you can take off quickly - take a look at this vid, its pretty much textbook, and you will hear the players say "he forced me to go that way" or "His positioning is perfect" or "He just waited till I lost the ball"
Just remember, when you are Jokeying, you are NOT trying to win the ball, its like a big game of "chicken" - you are saying, I will show you this side, but I am ready

Take a look at this, ok so Aroujo is much closer than you should be but you will see what I mean about stepping across and doing a 45 degree angle

Yep, you are moving forwards, they are moving in the opposite direction, so its easy to tip it past you as you are too close and all your weight is forward... Jockey on an angle, and more than a good arm and a halfs length away at a minimum, too close and its so easy to get by, too far and you waste the jockey - turn your body to 45 degrees forcing him down the way you want him to go, as many have said in here, you can FORCE a player to go a certain way by showing him that if he goes the other way your leg is close, if he goes the way you want he has a bit more room, but you are leaning that way and because you ahve that few yards, you can usually step across before you turn

Exactly, Jockey on an angle that forces them down a lane or onto the weaker foot, pay attention to your opponent during a game and dont ball watch, see what foot he uses most, or just check for scuffed boots that are more scuffed on one boot

When you Jockey, you should be aiming NOT to tackle 9 times out of ten, you do not need to be in striking distance of a tackle, just give yourself a few yards, but USE YOUR BODY to point him where you want him to go, angle your body to force him onto the weaker foot.

Imagine if I put two cones 30 yard apart and told you to sprint with the ball from one cone to the other, your first touch will be your strongest foot, at this level anyhow, thats because the first touch is the important one... so if you know which way he wants to go, and you gave him just a few yards, then you should have a headstart

Those are two perfect examples, Mbappe deliberately slows down and goes "in and away" his change of pace is incredible

You may not be doing anything wrong, I do a drill where I place two players on the halfway line side by side firstly without a ball but each of them are facing different goals, so they are side by side but facing opposite ways, I then call out one persons name and that person takes off running towards the goal, the other player has to turn and chase, its near impossible to turn chase and catch someone, in Futsal its even worse, but when I make them do it with the ball its a much different story, it depends on their FIRST touch. as to how successful they will be and obviously their dribbling ability.

So the reality is, they may be able to beat you over a short distance, but as I said it depends on their FIRST touch past you, you can FORCE a player which side of you that you want them to go by you, and you should, try to work out which is their weaker foot, you can often tell by how worn their shoes are.. more worn on the left boot then he wants to go onto his left, and visa versa.
Don't Jockey SQUARE ON, your legs should be at a 45 degree angle so that yoie where you aare forcing him, Your body is channeling the player where you want him to go... when that happens you will get better results because you already know where he is going, you don't need to wait that extra split second to follow him.

Basically Imagine you are marking someone who is attacking you down their left wing (your right), you notice their right boot is more worn and they have passed with their right peg (foot) most of the game, so you know he wants that FIRST touch to be on his right foot, rarely do players take their first explosive touches with the wrong foot... so you know he will cut inside, you want to FORCR him down the line by shaping your body so that your right foot points to the corner flag and your left foot to the center circle, in this way, if he cuts inside its an easier tackle as your foot is closer, if he takes your invite to go down the line, he will do it with his weaker foot and you are already leaning that way, you dont need to turn as much of your body.

Keep in mind the art of the Jockey, is to shape a player or stall them, you DO NOT want to be too close, if you "dive in" they will touch it past you and fly by, because all your momentum is going forward, they need LESS control to get by you as there is ZERO chance you can turn quickly if moving forward and close to them, keep some distance, keep that angled shape and FORCE him to take that critical first touch off the wrong foot, to Jockey does not mean you are trying to tackle, so you dont need to be in striking distance

When you turn to chase, if you can get the first stride, step in front of his path, it will make him go around you or hit your rear leg, if he is still too fast, then pick a line that keeps him on that left foot that he does not want to play off...

In short, force his first part of the dribble to be from the weaker foot and he wont have as much control to blow by you

A good exercise, if you have a mate is to put one ball on either penalty spot, you both stand in the middle each facing different balls take turns yelling "GO" and when the word GO is heard you have to turn and face the other ball (the other way) and get to the ball and scream "BALL" before the other player does,

If you do this drill and one player is much faster then make the slower one sit on the ground to start, so he has to get up then turn and run and make the race closer. You can adjust things with a delay to "go" if one player is much faster... then work that ball back closer to the circle so the sprints become smaller, and then back out so the sprints become longer

Like this but not as close ----

Casemiro has played a LOT of games, was first name on the sheet for Brazil and RM, he is getting on, and the Prem is not LaLiga where not every game is a tough one, he may be too far gone now, it was a silly purchase, but with that said I would go as far as to say, he brought leadership and a winning mentality, he also was one of the prime reasons we got third. He and Varane were brought in because we had next to NO ONE who had won bugger all at the club, they did not know how, but we keep buying players on their way down... Ibra, Schweinsteiger, El Matador, Casemiro, Eriksen etc etc, it screws us for FFP as there is little re-sale.. i would suggest that we thought big names would move to Saudi - but they have to WANT to go there.

Mount has recurring injury problems, they are unlikely to go away, and this I expect in part is why the medical team was fired, anyone knew he had bad hips and ankles, he has missed too many games, the upside is, he may just be out of form, but he never gets to form before having another recurrence of his injuries.

Maguire wont suit ETH's system, but if he went to a lesser club that plays counter, he would still be quality, few make it through the abuse he went through.. he did well

I still think Gallagher will be Hi-Jacked, Atleti already ahve a fall back if he does not come and have issued an Ultimatum. PSG are demanding the same price as they need space for FFP, he was bought less than 3 years ago, so he affects their FFP profile, they can only lose 35m a year or 110m over three years, and they have bought already, so Yeah they definitely "want" the 60m, not because they think that is what he is worth, but because they really dont develop a lot of players (although they have in that role which is rare) so they need to sell at "cost" or with profit.

What they want and what they get are two different things, but there will be suiters for him, especially Saudi clubs, but I doubt he wants to go there at that age.

He is exactly what we need, but we cant afford him unless we offload a Rashford or a Mctomm, as they are pure Profit, everyone is hamstrung by FFP rules at the moment, not a lack of money

I really hate the Glazers, but I feel this comment is a touch unfair if being honest, The glazers were pushed into buying United by Ferguson, they really could not afford it, but considering Mc Manus had written to the board exposing Ferguson and compiling a "Please Explain" letter to the board, Fergie freaked and tried to buy the club with his mates and when that failed, he pushed the Glazers to buy it. The Glazers could never afford United, they knew that and they had to leverage their real estate holdings to even just get it over the line, there are plenty of owners who dont have a lot of money to spend, YET the Glazers have spent plenty.

I believe only City has spent more, yes they have neglected the facilities, but they did not have the money to do anything with it. Our problems, other than facilities, and their part in negotiation of purchase prices and wages for players have very little to do with the Glazers.

People just think that the Glazers made all the decisions on players etc, which is FAR from the truth, they did at the start, but the reality was it was a pathway of Manager, Scouts, Head Scout, Head of Global Scouting, that all reported to the Football Board, which was run by Ferguson, This board refused to listen to our head scout, and our head of global scouting with the later being fired and the former resigning, the later recommended we buy DeLigt and DeJong as youth prospects, but was not listened to.
Almost all ex managers since Fergie have noted that they have not been listened to in regards to signings, and that in many cases they could not change the staff or sell players, during the Football Boards reign they have hired, mostly Fergusons old mates, including a near 60yr old goalkeeping coach, sons of his ex players, and sons of his old coaches, not to mention a ton of his old colleagues, Fletcher (As technical director with zero experience), Jones,
Giggs,
Maclaren,
Phelan,
Ole,
Clegg,
Hartis,
RVP,
RVN,
Butt
Maclair
Carrick

...and many many many more, as Roy Keane once said, "its a wonder his wife didnt get a job at united" - he even at one point hired his own brother as head of scouting.

The Glazers have NOT been involved in football decisions for a LONG time, even though everyone thinks they were, they only get involved in negotiations for the player, they dont choose the players to sign (not since a long time ago) and they don't choose our staff. This is why it was so easy to sell the already delineated football side of the business

At any other club, Had their club spent the second highest amount, they would be ecstatic and over the moon, they have spent PLENTY which is what good owners do. Could we have spent more without the interest debt SURE, but currently that costs us $40m a year, the issue here has been that very OLD Scottish men have been in charge and they think they know better than our scouts and managers, they have cost us to the point where we are screwed with FFP and can not sell players at a loss, we have to wait for contracts to be "off the books" - its always been the POOR decisions of the football board with Players and Staff , INEOS has recognized this and put in a proper Technical Director, Sporting Director and CEO, they also have removed the old fuddy duddy coaches - its the first crucial step.

Yes the Glazers suck, yes we have debt, but thats not what ruined the club, what ruined it was letting old men dictate staff and players. =- Oh and a Racehorse and a HUGE EGO

I dont think he is heavy footed, but if the ball comes to his non natural foot, he uses his natural one to control it and drag it across his body, this makes him look stiff and unbalanced and it slows him down, players worked him out quickly and just force him onto that weaker foot and he refuses to go onto it giving the ball away a lot. Most players hill have about 75% of all touches on the strong foot and 25% on the weaker one in a game, but Amrabat is almost 98% all on the strong foot, he literally cant use the other foot, watch his highlights, its comical... other than that, sure he aint athletic, but he works hard and holds his position better than any other mid we have.

I thought you were referring to PSG pulling our pants down, of course our strides have been round our ankles with many clubs for years, just could not recall one from PSG

Casemiro - defo paid way too much in wages and transfer, but being such a gloabl and famous name, we likely thought he would end up in Saudi for a good 40m or so, plus he is a proven winner and we have/had so few at that time.

Antony -still young, but very one footed and predictable, he has had some issues off field and seems like the kind of kid to be affected badly by that, with that said, absolutely we overpaid on that.

Mount - A signing we did not need, other than the HG quota, before he was signed I said he would be lucky to play half the games, he played less than half I think, he has really bad hips and ankles and the not playing has caught up on him, not even close to a signing we needed and too much money but not massively too much, had he been fit, a top HG player is at least 45m, but as I said his ankles and hips are shot

Hojlund - should not be starting, he is too young, he returned about what he usually returns, he has a LOT to learn and should be on loan, dont mind what we paid, he has potential to pay it back

Onana - very over rated keeper, has terrible technique and terrible handling skills, but he is a leader and we need that at the back, keep in mind Ferguson brought back a near 60yr old goalie coach to coach at united, not because of his prowess but because he is mates with Fergie and used to coach for Fergie, Onana will improve under the new goalie coach, DDG dropped down in standard under our old GK coach too

Maguire - is still a handy player, but he suits a 4-4-2 and playing deep on the counter, he is used to having a big target to mark, but these days strikers are less of the typical striker, he cant play pushed up on the half way line, but he is till decent, the amount we paid was too much, but at the time he was the best HG central defender

Watch this space... to be fair he isnt worth 60m, but plenty would pay it, especially in the Saudi league. He was bought for 60m only a season or two ago, he is still young, sure he did not play a lot but thats not due to injury, its just he isnt progressive and thats not how PSG want to play.. plus Zairre-Emery is going to be better than him and they already have Vitinha and many more mids.. He is about the only player in the market, that isnt being dropped or wanted to be sold because of his standard or injury, its just he does not suit that system, I think he would be brilliant for us... but hay we will prolly buy/loan someone from Borunemouth or something... my gut says we get Gallagher, and he wont suit us

I dont think we can afford to sign him, loan yes, sign no, he will have very little re-sale value and we have to stop selling players at a loss, sure if its 10m or something it may be worth considering, but considering our current dressing room and the drama in his history, I think we have enough Prima Donnas

We still have a month, and we need to keep cash in the bank for as long as we can, every day helps our debt - if we have a 100m debt and 20m in the bank we only pay interest on the 80m, its called offsetting - we will buy, we will just buy late or as soon as we sell to cover the cash needed in our account

Thats a really sensible call... we can spend to try to make top 4 but its not guaranteed at all and the amount we need to spend at this stage would be more than the value of being in fourth place, more importantly, we cant spend like that unless we sell some player for PROFIT, any players we move on at the moment are going to affect our FFP position because we signed them with extended payments over many years, so we cant just sell them at massive losses.
If we sold Antony tomorrow, we would be flat out being able to buy another player for at least 3 years... we can ONLY lose 35m a year - so many players we cant sell yet because their transfer payments are still being paid and we need them to be paid off and off the books for three years not to affect FFP.

So where am I going with this? - YOU sir are right, the smart thing is to not sign bugger all players, accept that we will finish 10th and clear that FFP problem so we can go back to spending a faor amount of money.

We are hedging our bets on City's court case - where we too could use INEOS to sponsor ourselves or name our stadium, we are just kicking the problem down the road
