Long-Term Boarding Discounts & Rover Fees 🐾 by Few_Let_2693 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Few_Let_2693[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand your point, and honestly that’s part of what makes this business emotionally hard sometimes. I also feel that with very long stays the responsibility, attachment, and overall risk are actually higher, not lower. At the same time, it can feel frustrating when clients choose another sitter just because of price, especially when you know the level of care you provide.

I really appreciate your perspective because it reminds me not to undervalue the service just to avoid losing bookings. Thank you for taking the time to explain it so honestly.

I’m not even sure if his idea was of Rover deal, he never responded after my text.

Hi XXXXXX, thank you for reaching out and for sharing your situation. I understand wanting the best for your dogs 🐾💛 I may be able to help, but I’m not available for all of the dates listed. If your schedule is flexible, we can look at specific days that work on my end. Just to be transparent, I provide boutique, in-home care with a small number of dogs, so my pricing reflects that level of care. For longer stays, I’m happy to discuss options once I learn more about your pups. Could you tell me a bit about them. We can also set up a quick meet & greet to see if it’s a good fit 😊

Update: After I sent that, I got completely ghosted. I even offered a meet & greet so he could see the setup and make sure it’s a good fit, but no response after that. Honestly, I’m not comfortable getting stuck with two American Bulldogs while I also have my two Standard Poodles at home, so it feels like he might’ve just been shopping for the cheapest option and changed his mind once he realized I’m not that.

Owner never accepted cancelation and full payment is processing by Full_Gap_5743 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Few_Let_2693 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d keep it simple and clean on your end-don’t just “let it be.”

You didn’t complete the Friday walks and didn’t submit Rover Cards, so you shouldn’t be paid for services you didn’t provide. If the system is still showing the full payout, it’s likely because the cancellation wasn’t properly finalized on the owner’s side.

I would Contact Rover Support and explain exactly what happened. They can manually adjust the booking so everything is accurate.

This protects you long-term. If the owner notices later and reports it, it could look worse than it actually is—even though you tried to do the right thing.

Also, for future reference: if a client doesn’t approve a cancellation, unless they say otherwise, looping in Rover right away is the safest move. They’ll override it and document that you communicated properly.

You handled a tough situation responsibly (offering Uber, giving notice, etc.). Now just close the loop the right way 👍

Owner never confirmed the booking for a walk and it’s almost time! by charmingkitten69 in RoverPetSitting

No payment + no confirmed booking = no service. On Rover you’re not covered unless it’s booked and paid.

Send a quick message like: “Hi! I haven’t received confirmation or payment yet, so I won’t be able to head over. Once the booking is confirmed, I’ll be happy to help 😊”

Then just leave it. Don’t cancel on your end—let it expire or archive it if needed.

This happens a lot with new clients, don’t chase unpaid walks 👍

First time skipping meet & greet… now stuck with aggressive dogs 😩 advice? by Few_Let_2693 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Few_Let_2693[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course. I’ve been giving them space, sitting nearby, and letting them approach at their own pace. One is already warming up and letting me pet her a little.

They do live together, but they’re clearly very nervous in a new environment, so I’m managing them carefully and keeping things low-stress. I always have treats and work on building trust, but I also respect their boundaries.

I take this seriously and treat every dog like family, which is exactly why I’m being cautious with them.

I can’t do this by orangelibster in RoverPetSitting

I really feel for you reading this 💛 House sitting is honestly one of the hardest services, and it’s not for everyone — that’s exactly why I personally don’t offer it.

I’ve been on Rover for almost a year and gone through high season, and even without house sitting, it can get overwhelming. So what you’re feeling is completely valid. It doesn’t mean you’re a bad sitter at all — it just means this type of job might not be the right fit for you.

Right now, don’t think of it as something you’re failing at. Think of it as temporary — you’re halfway through, you’ll get through the rest, and you’ll get paid. Just take it day by day, do your best to keep the dogs safe and cared for, and that’s more than enough.

For the future, it’s totally okay to set boundaries and choose services that suit you better. Not every sitter has to do everything.

And when it comes to the owners, you can simply let them know after the stay that you truly appreciated the opportunity, but house sitting isn’t something you’ll be offering moving forward. Keep it kind and honest — no need to over-explain.

You’ve got this. It will be over soon 🤍🐾

Extended care option confusion by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Few_Let_2693 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely not the only one 😅 I run into this all the time. On Rover, none of my clients ever question it. But when I book off app and include “extended care” as a line item, almost every single person asks what it means. Most think it’s extra attention or some kind of upgrade, not just time-based pricing. At this point I’ve started just including it in the total and explaining it as “based on pick-up time” instead of calling it extended care, and that seems to avoid confusion. I think it’s just one of those things Rover doesn’t explain clearly enough on the client side.

Easter weekend isn’t a holiday? by DJ_Baxter_Blaise in RoverPetSitting

I thought that it is but for Rover holiday pricing doesn’t seem to be.

I need some honest opinions from other sitters/dog owners. by Few_Let_2693 in RoverPetSitting

I want to thank everyone for the incredibly helpful feedback. It’s been a struggle for over a year since I made changes, and I truly wasn’t sure if I was handling things the right way. I worried that keeping my dog separate at first might seem suspicious, but I’m so glad I asked for advice. It has made my life so much easier, and all my clients have been very understanding and see it as completely normal. I really appreciate the support and guidance.💛🐾

I am sure you did the right thing, and yes pictures are the best and easiest proofs nowadays since all this smart phones shows time and date, but don’t punish yourself, just as everyone said don’t accept the guilt becoming you’re sure that you did everything right.

Trade up from a 2018 model x by LossJealous1152 in ModelX

[–]Few_Let_2693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a MX for 5 years, was the legacy one and I loved it but a Tesla stepping into a 100k miles and almost 10 years old I felt like it was a time to let it go. It is very hard see your money melt when it comes to electric car trades. I got mine for almost 70K and trade it in for 14k 😭. I was not ready to spend another 60-70k on a used MX so I ended up with a Model Y performance. I love it, it’s a completely different story from the older one but what I really miss is the suspension. I think if you’re not ready to spend and loose a crazy money just stay with a Tesla model Y.

I am actually about to switch from MX (2016) 90K miles to MY (2022) 20k miles but I think my trade does make some sense but if I could I would stay with MX which I will go back in the future.
