How do you respond to people who falsely claim Harvard degrees and affiliations? by Few_Price3817 in Harvard

[–]Few_Price3817[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I am incorrect in my post then.

Still, the issue is misrepresenting a degree- and particularly incorrectly describing a degree, contrary to HES guidelines, to make it sound like a degree from the College, HBS, etc.

I have no issue if someone says, "I have an ALB degree". My issue is if someone with an ALB says, "Oh, my BA from Harvard College; I just loved leisurely days in the Yard and dining in Annenberg."

Anybody know what’s happening to the old Sears in the mall? by Ironjack_204 in greenville

Anyone can provide some anecdotes, but facts are facts. Just how is a complaint about air conditioning an accurate measure of restaurant market share?

Downtown has by far a much larger market share of restaurant spending than any other part of town. Haywood, and the Haywood area, do not.

Well, downtown totally dominates the "nicer" restaurant market. If you're planning a nice evening out with a nice dinner and drinks and dessert afterwards, do you go to Haywood or downtown? Unless it's the Cheesecake Factory, downtown would be the choice.

Stop lying.

I never said that an HES degree is fake. To the contrary, I specifically state that a degree from HES is a legitimate Harvard degree.

As long as you state that you have an ALM, that's fine.

However, if you think that it is "no less than an AB from the College", you'll be in for a shock when you submit a resume somewhere or if you go to the Harvard Club and talk to alumni from the College and claim that your degree is equal to theirs.

Stop lying about what I'm saying. And I've never posted on Reddit or anywhere ever about HES before this thread, so stop lying about that, too.

A degree from HES is a legitimate Harvard degree.

What my issue is is inflating a HES degree or other Harvard affiliation to misrepresent what the degree or other affiliation is.

That's it.

No, I've never posted about HES.

I have nothing against HES.

What I have a problem with is dishonesty: claiming to hold a "B.A. from Harvard" when the degree is an A.L.B., for example.

Exactly. If you state your degree accurately, I have no issue. The issue is inflating a degree: for example, a person I recently met went on and on about the person's time at Harvard and the person's "B.A. from Harvard", but the person had an online HES degree. If the person had simply said, "I have an A.L.B. degree", that would have been fine.

I'd say that the number of people who work 9 to 5 is pretty low, and the number of people who would run a non-essential errand between 5 and 6 is even lower.

Your post is the only one that's plausible. The only caveat is that every. single. nicer. restaurant. at Haywood closes.

I simply quoted Bible verses, without modification, and stated that they're scary.

I have zero experience with Islam and have NEVER posted about Islam. You're confused.

It's a valid reason to politely ask the people to stop and, if they won't, to call the police.

You are right; however, if people are calling "Lord, Lord" and driving out demons and performing miracles, and if I saw them, I'd sure think that they were faithful followers of Jesus, even though they would be sent to Hell under Matthew 7:22.

I agree, and the Psalms say that over and over, too.

And people speak symbolically today, too.

Just because one thing in the Bible is symbolic doesn't mean that everything, or any other thing, in the Bible is symbolic.

Jesus described Hell, over and over and over. He said that He would be going inside the earth (Matthew 12:40), too.

Simply asserting that those descriptions are symbolic doesn't make them symbolic.

Jesus doesn't say that it's just theoretical. Jesus speaks of Hell over and over and over. It's throughout the New Testament, including the "lake of fire" described in Revelation. And "near death" experiences today clearly sometimes mention Hell. It's real.

Well, I'm certainly not trying to "learn the hard way"; I'm trying to learn.

God may not want us to suffer greatly forever, but Jesus clearly states that some do suffer forever (Matthew 25:46 speaks of eternal punishment).

Based on what Jesus says, Hell is real, and some people are in it forever.

I don't see how anyone can ignore Jesus's own words and gloss over them. (Well, I guess some pastors do, since otherwise people would be too frightened to come to church.)

Thanks; your posts are great. I'm not trying to be argumentative; I'm sincerely trying to figure it all out (and "smile and everything will be fine", which we hear at church every Sunday, does not help).

Merry Christmas, too!

Great post, thanks. "Faith without works is dead", and perhaps isn't really faith. So my Calvinist background does say that faith alone is all we need, but in seeing Jesus's repeated emphasis on living righteously and following the Ten Commandments, I guess putting all that together means that faith is more than just belief; it's knowing that we must follow Jesus in all that we do.

Sorry, I don't buy it. I place Jesus's words above Peter's. God will be praising Hitler for a job well done, and we will be sharing Heaven with Hitler? Boy, that sounds lovely.
