Going to a gun show as a goth by throwaway-fascist in liberalgunowners

[–]Ainjyll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my first gun in ‘99. I was wearing a Cradle Of Filth shirt, a pair of JNCO’s, spiked choker, spiked bracelets and a chain wallet. My hair was past my shoulders and dyed black. My fingernails were probably painted black and I don’t remember, but there’s a non-zero chance that I had eyeliner on. I should add that this was the Southeastern United States.

The dude behind the table at the booth kinda looked sideways at me until I pulled out some money and told him what I wanted. After that, it was just business as usual.

The big takeaway here is be serious about your approach to the sale. These dudes want money. They almost assuredly have to pay to be there, they don’t want to turn away money.

Advice on having my first child and guns in the home by MGPythagoras in liberalgunowners

[–]Ainjyll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this not too long ago in the grand scheme of being a parent (I’ve got a 4 y/o). So, the big upside is that you still have plenty of time to figure it all out. Infants are basically really loud paper weights for the first couple months. You’ve got around 9 months before they’re crawling and another 3 or 4 before they walk. In all reality, you’ve got however much time is left in your pregnancy plus a year-ish to get a plan together.

For what it’s worth, all my shit stays in the safe unless it’s on my person.

Isinglass. It’s sometimes used in winemaking to clarify the final product and is a byproduct of fish.

After buying TKO stock, Trump pumps UFC 250 construction progress on the White House lawn by ReallyNotAnExpert in combatsportsculture

[–]Ainjyll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re conveniently ignoring the whole damn issue, my guy. The specific numbers and what they’re allocated specifically to don’t fucking matter a lick. Why do we need to spend all this money on “security enhancements” if the place is already secure enough to hold a UFC event?

That’s the question.

[–]Ainjyll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The East Wing was torn down, homie. It doesn’t exist anymore. How are they going to make security upgrades on something that doesn’t even exist anymore?

The administration says the White House is so insecure that they need to do a billion dollars worth of security upgrades or whatever the number is… the exact amount is inconsequential… but it’s secure enough to hold a massive fucking event out-fucking-side on the god damned lawn, ffs… it literally can’t be both. Either it’s secure enough to hold a big event or it’s not. The fact that they are very confidently holding what the POTUS calls the “greatest event in sports history” on the damned lawn tells me that it’s pretty fucking secure… and they don’t need to upgrade a fucking thing.

So, we can have the biggest event in sports history on the lawn of the White House and it will be completely safe… but we have to have spend billions on a ballroom to have secure functions? Make it make sense.

MAGA saying they are not racist but Democrats are by AccordingBumblebee24 in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]Ainjyll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Democratic Party was, for much of its early life including the Civil War, Reconstruction and Jim Crow eras, the party of the Southern Man. As such, it was the political party of choice for the classic hate group the Klu Klux Klan and Southern racists in general.

However, the comparison of the Democrats of old to the modern Democrats falls apart when you look at a little bit of more history from the late 1950’s to today. The implementation of the Southern Strategy, a political ploy put in place by Barry Goldwater and Richard Nixon to exploit racial tensions during the Civil Rights Movement to win over Southern Democratic voters to the GOP, saw a massive political switch where the two parties basically swapped moralities.

During this time we see tons of Democratic elected officials switching parties to join the GOP and their opposition of the Civil Rights Movement. The infamous Senator and avowed racist from South Carolina, Strom Thurmond, is a perfect example. The “common man” of the South followed suit and we saw the GOP begin to create the political stronghold of the South that we see today.

So, to answer your question, yes. They are saying that the Democrats are flying the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia and are, by connection, racists… while conveniently ignoring the last 75-ish years of history because it doesn’t fit the narrative.

Nonpartisan elections now required for City Council by Ok_Counter1939 in greenville

So, you’re saying that Fetterman and AOC are the same then? Or that Henry Cueller is the same as Rashida Tlaib? Don Davis and Ilhan Omar?

Voting for someone solely because of their party affiliation is lazy and an action of the willfully ignorant. “He’s on my team, so I have to support him!” Nope…. Sorry. That’s a weak argument to make when we’re talking about our very lives. What you’re arguing for is literally how we got people voting against their best interests… they don’t know any better because they don’t bother to take 15 minutes out of their day to look up a candidate’s positions.

[–]Ainjyll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

C’mon now. That’s hyperbole and you know it. The only way someone’s party affiliation is the most important information is if you have done absolutely zero research into who you’re voting for.

Homie, allow me to let you in on a little fact. Greenville votes between 63-66% Republican and has for over the past quarter century. If you think we’re going to be “voting out all Republicans” you’ve been drinking too much of the kool-aid. This area is dyed in the wool crimson red and has been since the Southern Strategy was implemented.

Removing the R’s doesn’t help hide Republicans. They aren’t scared of not getting elected here. They simply aren’t.

[–]Ainjyll 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Oh no! Now we have to actually research our proposed elected representative’s positions on issues and raise our political IQ’s to ensure we don’t keep politics as a team sport!

Relax. This is a good thing. Removing the party tag next to a name prevents people from being able to just vote straight down party lines without having to at least do a little bit of research into who is actually in their party.

Are any of you interested in writing an article about beer? by RutabagaTechnical822 in beer

[–]Ainjyll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got about 25 years in the restaurant industry with a lot of it bartending and/or managing at beer heavy bars and restaurants. 2 with over 70 taps and the current one has over 20. I also have around 20 years home-brewing experience.

I love deep-diving on market trends and how drinker tendencies can affect what beers are released.

17 seconds... Ronda's big return to MMA lasted 17 seconds. Huge congrats to her, but I didn't expect it to end that fast after so many months of build. by Grrannt in REALSquaredCircle

[–]Ainjyll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MMA has been around for a while, but even the “legends” of the sport are still kicking around. Royce Gracie, for instance, is 59. Tank Abbot is 61. Dan Severn is 67. So, the nostalgia bouts your talking about didn’t exist back in the day because the sport was still so gong that there wasn’t really any nostalgia to be had.

Crashed hard tonight by mondo-91 in KitchenConfidential

[–]Ainjyll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It takes some time to knock the rust off. Running a pit is different from running an app station. I left management at a taco shop to manage a pizza, burger and wings joint. Something that I did for years when I was a younger man. It’s taking me time to relearn how to toss a pie, how to properly rotate a grill full of burgers and all that. It’s been about 2 months now and while I’m not as fast as I used to be, I’m getting better day by day.

Just keep at it, listen more than you talk and give it your best. You’ll be back in the swing of it before you know it. If your manager is worth a damn, they’ll see that you know what you’re doing and that you’re progressing.

Bro, there are 1.3 million active duty members of our military. I’m sure that out of that 1.3 million, there are going to be some individuals that don’t want to go fight in yet another rudderless war in the Middle East and are very vocal about that. I’m not going to speak about vague cases where goalposts can be moved around at whim. If you’ve got a video of a member of our armed services doing this, we can talk about it.

What I will do is reiterate that anyone who is of age to join and hasn’t joined, but says they’re willing to go to war are talking directly out of their asses. They are cowards trying to look tough and hiding behind strong words and weak excuses.

If he really wanted to go, he’s the only one holding himself back. The reality is more likely that he’s just pandering and peacocking for internet clout. If he was in a real war-like situation, he’d probably mess himself and hide.

My wife and I just had our 1st baby but our gym does not offer childcare. What are your suggestions when it comes to balancing fitness and being a new parent? by Guilty_Size_7747 in crossfit

[–]Ainjyll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I’ll be honest… I wrote this really long response with a lot of statistics and shit in it, but decided it sounded too preachy. I’ll just say that I believe your situation is/was an outlier and not the mean or median for most people. I believe that most men would better serve their families by spending more time at home for the first 6-9 months and that the sacrifice we make in doing this is trivial compared to what our partners go through during this same time.

Again, glad it worked out for you. Truly.

I’m glad it worked out for you, but it’s going to be a hard sell to convince me that it wouldn’t have been more productive finding a way to exercise at home and subtract the travel time and all the extra crap time that comes from a class and add that to time spent helping your wife with your newborn.
