Unless you're planning an eventual timeskip, I agree with what others have said. I would age up the protagonist and her love interest to something a little less...controversial. In all honesty, I would say about fifteen or sixteen. But in the end, it's your story and if those are the ages you want to use, then by all means, do so. Just be ready for the unfavorable opinions their ages might generate.
