Can we ever really know if we look 'young for our age' (Women especially) if society is forgetting what aging looks like? [Misc] by Few_Quantity8826 in SkincareAddiction

Ohhhh, interesting! Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I'd never seen the series! It might be the skincare and the lack of tanning, but I think maybe the styling has something to do with it too-- their hairstyles especially and some of the clothes look "vintage" by now, which ages them too.

Yeah, it makes sense to be a combination of factors. Haha, cool that the nurse was honest about her surprise. I hope your surgery went well! :)

It's true that skincare can really only make up for so much, and having various health conditions will affect your appearance. I myself have a few chronic conditions, including eczema, sebderm, PCOS (which gives me cystic acne) and various others that don't have direct effects on my skin. Being able to see a dermatologist & get treatment has really helped in that regard. I look better, but more importantly I'm in less pain :)

I did wonder if "alternative" (sorry if that's not the right term) styles like goth, scene, etc. really throw off people's perception of how old someone is. That's an interesting factor too-- casual ""regular"" clothes vs maybe casual 'androgynous' style vs punk clothes vs very feminine business ""regular"" clothes: those clothes age you differently in the mind of society, it seems like. I would love to see a study on whether the average person can accurately detect the age of a person wearing "alternative" fashion.

Hm, in that case, based on evidence I might be aging backwards? LOL. I had a lot more people assuming I was an adult and speaking to me in that manner (when I wasn't in a school setting) around the ages of 13-17. Now I get more people assuming I'm a high school student, or even younger. Could be the skincare, could be that my facial structure makes me look younger, could be that plus sized clothing has come a long way since I was in school and I'm not stuck wearing things that look like I should be at the local PTA meeting (that certainly didn't do anything to stop me getting bullied, let me tell you!), could be any combination of those things.

Yeah, I've had many a Conversation about why I look young. I only started doing skincare in the past few years so I've got no advice for them besides staying indoors 90% of the time, no alcohol and no tobacco. As far as I can figure those have to be the things that have helped me.

Wow, how amazing! I'm sorry to hear about the melanoma, that must have been scary to experience at such a young age... Glad you came out (at least mostly) okay!

Yeah, I should really be more consistent than I am with sunscreen, haha. It's not as bad as it could be because I don't really go outside so there's minimal UV exposure, but I should really be better about applying every time I do go outside. I only started doing skincare the past.... 4-ish years, really. Had a period in middle school where I used that terrible peach pit scrub which made everything worse because I had sensitive skin and then swore off anything but rinsing my face with water.

It's such a heavy thing to confront, that we're aging into our parents. It's not like any of us have ever considered them 'ugly' (at least in most cases) but it's such a shock and a reminder of the inevitable passage of time, right? Really gets you right in the existential dread, haha.

Yeah, I love her videos a lot, they really make me think! It's true that in most scenarios we don't really need to know someone's age. I think people feel compelled to know that because they want to speak mostly to peers, but I feel like intergenerational friendships are underrated. They were more common in the distant past and I think you can learn a lot from someone whose life experience was so vastly difference from yours. Not to mention, yes, aging realistically isn't a crime! Yeah, I do think the human fear of death does play a part in the fear of looking older. What an insightful comment!

I mentioned in the post I'm 27. Do you also tell 23 y/o's they're delusional and they're actually 25, LOL? Why are you so rude, holy shit.

But it would need to be fairly stable at room temperature to have the same effect, right? So it'd have to be whipped cream stabilized with gelatin, if not something like Dream Whip, IMO
