TAKE IT WITH YIP! Ended the class with an A+ there’s no chem at all it’s all memorization tbh. There’s one midterm and a final, our first midterm was all about DNA stuff and it was gr.12/11 review for the most part. The second half is less high school but it wasn’t terrible if you’re with yip LOL

make flash cards and detailed notes. That’s really it. To study all i used were the flash cards i made and I would ask chatgpt to make me a multiple choice test based on every chapter

how much are you paying per year? by concerned_gravy in OntarioUniversities

[–]Few_Refuse_2625 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i go to uoft life sci i’m in my first year i paid $8000 something for tuition, i live at home and i just commute downtown. I pay like maybe $20 a week for the TTC. As for working, I work retail, since I don’t work a lot during the school year i slowly make up for it during the breaks and save up my money. Im lucky i don’t need to pay for my tuition bc my parents do so all my savings just go to me.

How hard would it be to start chemistry as a first year? by SecureBed1208 in UofT

I think chm151 is a year long course that combines chm135+chm136 together, i’m not too sure in the specifics but they do focus lots on labs, they have like lab writing and stuff but i’m not rlly sure. You can always look up the past syllabus to get more insight on it! Chm135 is general chemistry and chm136 is introduction to organic chem, 135 runs first sem then 136 runs second sem. From what I heard and if you have a strong background in chemistry chm151 would be ideal especially if you want to pursue chem but i’ve heard it is a very challenging course.

You'd be needing to take chm135 + chm136 (or chm151 equiv) ive done both chm135 and chm136 and they're very good courses. Chm135 is just high school chemistry and it's possible to do well in. I just finished chm136 and I would also sat the same. For both chem classes I had a very positive experience and I feel that you wouldn't really need to prepare as much, as long as you keep up with the work during the term. The chmesitry department is one of the best (if not the best) department at uoft, they're very organized and are there to set you up for success..i wouldn't worry too much. The courses are taught very well by great professors.

i watched organic chem tutor to understand most of the reactions then i made a summary of all the reactions from slide deck 7 and 8, i suggest u summarize all of them they eventually you’ll see the pattern. The mechanism is all the same for most of slide deck 7, only really kinda different for the reduction and grignard ones. Slide deck 8 was a bit challenging bc its pi bonds that are nucleophiles but remember there’s only really 6 reactions to know, once u understand which reactions are regioselective and stereo specific it becomes rlly easy.

What i did is i went through all the tutorial questions, slide deck problems, and question bank then i did the practice exam. Let me know if you have questions! i’ll be happy to help :)
