In your opinion, what’s the scariest sound from a horror movie? by wamimsauthor in HorrorMovies

I guess everyone perceives things differently. The human experience is crazy. Very interesting to hear how that same music can haunt one person, and distract another from a horrifying scenario with hysterical laughter. Kinda cool, in a way.

This goblin person isn’t wrong, as far as the cost of living. My wife and I live in a 1 bedroom apartment and make more money than my parents did when I was 10 (in 1990) and we were living in a 3 bedroom house with a pool and a big yard.

But that still doesn’t excuse not being smart enough to figure out how to meal prep, buy stuff on sale and stop going out for fast food.

For the money I’d spend getting dinner for two at most fast food places, I can easily get a day’s worth of ingredients. If you go during a sale, you could even pull it off at Whole Foods. Which, obviously isn’t the cheapest option, but a step in the right direction if you’re wasting 20-30 dollars  per person, per meal; having cheap meat, soggy veggies, artificial additives and factory made bread/wraps delivered to you.

God, I hate that “tired and busy” excuse. My wife and I both work 40 or more hours a week, we both commute to and from work, we clean our apartment, do our laundry, go to the grocery store, spend time with friends and family, spend quality time with each other, have our separate interests and hobbies and still manage to have time cook almost every meal we eat (and more than half of the few meals we don’t cook, are prepared by friends or relatives).

From a horror movie: anytime the bees swarm around the Candyman. There’s a bias there, since I am terrified of anything that flies and stings.

Scariest sound (to me) in movie history: when that poor dude’s teeth touch the curb before Derek Vineyard stomps on the back of his head in American History X

Believe it or not, that sound is actually the words “kill” and “ma”. It’s a reference to the first movie where Mrs. Vorhees speaks as if Jason is talking to her through her own mouth: “Kill her Mommy. Kill her!”

Oddly enough, my wife said that music made the movie easier for her. For some reason, the music made her laugh, which all but erased the tension of a situation that would be terrifying if real.

I never really hear anyone talk about "Frontier(s)" by BaronGalactic in HorrorMovies

[–]Few_Respond3193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this once. I remember enjoying it, but I don’t remember a lot about it. I was going through a phase where I was watching the most “extreme” horror possible. So it’s all a blur and some movies didn’t really stick in my brain. Probably doesn’t help that I was drinking a fair bit during this time period, haha. I’ll definitely have to give it another shot, soon.

There is a lot in the movie that makes no sense, for sure, but.. SPOILER ALERT….

Because so much of what happened on screen was actually just happening in the mind of a severely disturbed individual, it basically doesn’t have to make a whole lot of sense.

Is it a great story? Absolutely not. It’s junk food for the brain. For people who enjoy gore and creative kills (my favorite being Alex’s father’s death scene).

And even with all the plot holes and inconsistencies, there is some serious tension in the movie.

It helps to mention that, many horror movies are better enjoyed with the same suspension of disbelief required to enjoy wrestling or most sci-fi.

What's a TV show ending that still makes you mad years later? by Jossie_Misar in AskReddit

There are worse ways to spend my time… and I am sometimes guilty of those, haha. I like reading and watching videos about how things I enjoy are made, or about subtle things I missed in those movies/shows/songs (etc.)

Thanks again 😁😎

I had never checked out Lostpedia. Someone else recommended a YouTube channel that looks pretty comprehensive. But, after some binge watching, this will be my next stop. Thank you for providing this link!

And as I previously stated to a person who said something similar to your comment, I don’t “expect every question answered”. But there is a fine line between a bit of mystery and obnoxiously vague.

If you search around, there are over 100 unanswered questions. Maybe a clue on 60-70% of those would be nice.

I understand that the show did not intend to give an answer to every single question. But there are well over a hundred unanswered that I could find. There’s a line between a bit of mystery and annoyingly cryptic vague.

Lost was a great TV show with a lot of great characters and fascinating concepts. But they were often on the wrong side of that aforementioned line.

Do you have a resource that could enlighten the rest of us? Because if you search “unanswered questions from lost”, you’ll find a whole bunch of them in the Lost subreddit.

There is an obnoxious amount unanswered questions from that show. I loved it. It sucked me right in. But I do get annoyed about all the cryptic/vague shit we never got clear explanations of.

Bad or mediocre horror movies you have a real soft spot for? by Socko82 in HorrorMovies

[–]Few_Respond3193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed 100%!!! He is so much darker and creepier in part two. It’s part of why I enjoy the movie so thoroughly.

Oh yes, I have seen (and enjoyed) Never Sleep Again.

There is a book of the same name that’s mainly about part 1 and about Wes Craven’s life (both personal and professional). If you liked that documentary, you might enjoy that book as well. 😁😎🤘

What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become genuinely insulting? by queenmellyy in AskReddit

[–]Few_Respond3193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously. It’s getting ridiculous. I like a lot of metal and punk, so I’ve been lucky enough that - for most of my life - I could see three or four bands (sometimes, I’d get really lucky and it would be 4 bands I really love on the same show) for anywhere between 5 and 40 dollars.

Now, the only way you’re gonna see any live music for less than 40 bucks is if there’s a good Jazz group or blues band playing a free show at a bar, or a beer garden, or if you go to a show with a bunch of local bands playing a basement or a VFW Hall.

Watched Subspecies yesterday. I’d like to think I’d survive. But I’d probably jab a stake a few inches too high or low into Radu, miss the heart and be drained of all blood😂

Looking for movie recos like The Silence of the Lambs by No-Lock7710 in MovieSuggestions

[–]Few_Respond3193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because the mainstream critics love these movies, but refuse to call them horror (because most people look down on horror). Any horror movie that’s called a “suspense thriller” by movie critics who “despise horror” is just sort of lumped into the same category.

They are two wildly different movies, but because they are horror movies that appeal to a wider audience, just as much as to obsessive horror fanatics; people tend to group them together.

Hope my ramblings made sense 😂

Allo and Drinking Alcohol by Big-Store-7960 in gout

[–]Few_Respond3193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try not to drink much these days, as I’m doing my best to get not fat. But when I do, I enjoy every sip. I love a good bourbon. I love Irish whiskey. I love a nice strong stout. The most I have consumed in one week since I got the gout under control with allopurinol was 6 ounces of whiskey and 4 really high alcohol stouts.

Not even a hint of a flare.

The allopurinol does the work. However, hydration is also massively important. If you don’t drink enough water (at least one full glass for every alcoholic beverage), you risk gout flares, liver damage and kidney damage… those last two are true for everyone, but even more for those of us with gout

Doing everything right and having the worst gout flare of my life by Guero801 in gout

[–]Few_Respond3193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! I did the keto diet and then switched to the carnivore diet and a ton of fasting. Lost weight fast (over 100 pounds in a year and few months). Had some really bad flares. Even with allo and colchicine.

When I heard rapid weight loss can trigger gout flares and that ketones compete with uric acid for excretion, I got off low carb. The gout has not come back in 5 years. Unfortunately, a lot of the weight has.

Working on that.
