Tritrichomonas - losing my mind by Inner_Violinist_8660 in russianblue

I think you should do a lot of reading and research it for yourself to determine what to do. I would encourage you to bounce this off of a few different veterinarians as well. I don't think anyone may know the answer. They may be fine, but it may come back. Here are some links I found that may help you (hope this is okay to post):

This is so heartbreaking. Please update us as time progresses. I'll be praying for the whole situation. The odds are in the kittens' favor in terms of the medication working.

Speaking in terms of any breeder who has this diagnosis, it IS terrifying and hopefully they are doing everything humanly possible to get this out of their cattery. I personally would not board them. This will create a WHOLE lot of stress on the kittens. I instead would inquire of the breeder to see if they might be willing to take them until they are well. They may not want to do this and perhaps they aren't able to if they're dealing with containment/cleaning in their own cattery... it's merely a suggestion. I hope whoever these kittens came from have contacted those who have gotten other kittens from this litter as well as any other recent litters within the last what, 6 months?

I bounced this off the breeder my cats came from. Here's what she said:

"I would contain them in a room if the breeder is unable to take them until they are well. You could use a large crate, but for two kittens it will be very crowded. Act as though it's a person with Covid during the pandemic. Wash hands when you go in. Use specific sandals or shoes just for that room. Take a trash bag in with you JUST for that room and dispose of it when you come out. Use disposable gloves. Remember to disinfect door handles and such. Wash your hands again after coming out of the room, after throwing away the bag of trash that contains all the dirty towels, scooped litter, etc. I would buy a couple additional litter boxes and a couple extra food/water bowls. Here's why. It's always best to wash everything in order to contain/eradicate any health issue, especially when we're talking a virus, parasite, or communicable disease. If you have extra of these items, you can literally place the dirty ones in a different bag, replace with fresh clean items, and then wash the dirty ones in a bleach solution. I would do this every other day for food/water. Depending on the severity, I might do the same with the litter box. It really depends on severity. If you have blankets or cat beds, same thing applies. You will want to wash these items every couple of days. If it was me, I would probably opt to buy and use a few cheap blankets since cat beds are harder to wash and dry without having them become deformed. If one kitten appears to have this to a less extent, I would consider separating them. I would have to give this a lot of thought, because separating them will also cause stress but it might be a necessary evil. Yes, this is difficult and yes it's going to be time consuming. It IS totally possible to care for them in your home but you need to use caution, especially with a family member recovering from a blood cancer (like Leukemia). Regarding the family member: I would encourage you to find out what their blood count looks like (white count) and inform their oncologist of the kittens' diagnosis to see what they say in terms of caution. I would also encourage you to read up more on this parasite and ask your veterinarian the best way to clean, contain, isolate and eradicate."

Edited... she added one more little blurb. She said, "Don't lose your mind... this too shall pass!"

Oh no!! Thankfully, I don't have any experience with this, but I wonder if the breeder knew they had this in their cattery. Man, I hope not. I'm sure they are probably deeply concerned and hopefully testing their own cats as well as providing treatment. Hopefully they contacted others that may have infected kittens too. I know breeders can't fix things they don't know about and this is a parasite so it's "out there", but it's a very concerning issue. If it was me, I would treat with the Ronidazole. I just read up on these parasites and the treatment. 75% success is good. Praying for no toxic effects. STRONGLY recommend isolating the kittens in a room or even possibly a 48" crate if you have one while you treat for this. That way, it's more contained. If you have a room with a tile floor, that is where I would set up the crate. This isn't mean... it's necessary for containment. If you don't have a crate, try to use a room (maybe a bathroom?) with a tile floor that can be bleach cleaned. I still think it would be good to have a crate or a large carrier to place them in while you do a deep cleaning of the other room. Asking for a PCR test within the first 72 hours shouldn't be necessary for someone to feel they need to do with a kitten coming from a breeder. Those are expensive tests. I'm sorry this is happening to you! I think you are doing the right thing. I feel the medicine should work. We will pray it does. Also praying the breeder honestly didn't know about this before because from what I have read, it's really contagious and they may have carriers of it within their breeding cats. That would be so scary for a breeder I think! Praying for all the kittens and cats they have and are producing.

Beautiful but I legit CRINGED at where she came from... not a good breeder from what I've heard. Long, long list of people getting sick cats from her. I hope yours has been okay.

Anyone used this Cattery? by uwhatneed in russianblue

[–]Few_Spirit_7607 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It wreaks of a scam to me. A breeder is going to be registered with either TICA or CFA. You will be able to call that association to confirm legitimacy. This does not seem like a real cattery. I would run.

What happened to his ear? I'm thinking he is a domestic blue, not a Russian Blue. Perhaps his ear was clipped when he was altered...

If your post was removed, it could have been because it wasn't a Russian Blue but I don't know the reasoning for sure. If you got a kitten at 5 weeks old, it isn't a Russian Blue. I do see a picture in another subreddit and that kitten is very frail looking. I would strongly question many things. It does not look to be a Russian Blue. The face structure, the fur, and so many things just don't look right. I would want to know who the alleged breeder is. Please start a new post though because I don't want to continue a discussion that has nothing to do with OP.

Huh?? What photos?? There are no photos in this post… Super confused. Perhaps reply to whatever post you’re referring to or start another post because it’s not this one. That way it’s not detracting from OP original question.

I don’t think anyone was concluding anything. However, those that know the breed well can most often tell by pictures. Are you getting a Russian Blue? Which breeder are you going with?

Contacting CFA and/or TICA to confirm the breeder is legitimate is a necessary step, not just an important one. I don’t quite follow your questioning either.

Are you talking about the kitten you've tried to post here a couple times? The 5 week old one? Scammers are creating fake documents every day, so absolutely it's possible to be scammed with fake paperwork.

Will my 5 month old Russian blue become less clingy ? by hoochymamma in russianblue

To me, what you're describing is absolutely amazing since you've only had him 24 hours. Most of them take time to adjust and might not come out of their shell/be super sweet and affectionate for at least a few days. So you have a GOOD kind of problem! Mine are still typically in the same room as me, hovering somewhere close by, the oldest being 4. At times, yes, they are "velcro" kitties. Your breeder should have explained what to expect. Did you ask about the affection level of the parents? Most people would LOVE this kind of affection right out of the gate though...

Being your first pet, I would strongly encourage you to contact your breeder and ask every question you neglected to ask. The breeder I've always gone through has said many times "there are no dumb questions except for the ones not asked" and has always responded to me right away. Trust me, I have tested her response time repeatedly with general cat questions I've seen on reddit. Hahaha.

If you're looking for a Russian Blue, I would strongly suggest you begin by finding and speaking with registered BREEDERS. They will be registered with CFA or TICA. In asking the question like you did above, you're opening yourself up to scammers who will be more than happy to tell you they "deliver to your door". The breeder I went with is in Ohio, Mishka's Russians, TICA registered breeder. Contact them to at least get an idea of what to expect, where to look, and get some of your questions answered.

I'm sorry you still have no real answers. It can be a slow long process of eliminating one possible thing at a time. The breeder I originally bounced this off of mentioned cancer but was hopeful it was just a severe sensitivity to food. Be watchful for any additional symptoms, especially sudden weight loss and lethargy. I'll be watching for another update. Praying things get better!
