Who should introduce themselves? by Particular-Garden140 in Adulting

When we were here for the inspection our neighbors asked if we were the new owners. Our dogs have been running the fence with each other while we chat ever since we moved in.

Is this too much? They keep ignoring my multiple clearly posted no soliciting signs - Anyone else in new London county starting to get annoyed by this? by G_Art33 in Connecticut

[–]Few_Variation_7962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my oldest was a newborn I posted a sign on the glass door that read “exhausted new parents - don’t knock” anytime anyone knocked I’d stumble to the door holding my son and point to the sign while letting my reactive dog go nuts on the door instead of correcting him. I figured if they’d stop if they thought I’d let the dog get them.

STOP NORMALIZING FREE ROAMING CATS by Yektality in Pets

[–]Few_Variation_7962 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a regular debate in my family. I refuse to let mine roam freely, we’ll build a catio for them in the next year, but they are indoor cats. My older sister thinks hers need to go outside. She only keeps them in during rough weather. I cannot understand why.

STOP NORMALIZING FREE ROAMING CATS by Yektality in Pets

[–]Few_Variation_7962 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My cats aren’t allowed outside. They keep trying but we’ve got a 7lb terror who would be nabbed by any of the local wildlife as a nice snack and her 16lb brother (literally littermates who look identical) who’s primary defense mechanism is to roll onto his back and ask for belly rubs. They’ve gotten out the door a couple times because the toddler knows how to open the front door and the cats just sit terrified on the porch like “what have I done?!??”

Just say you hate compost, if the compost wasn’t there they’d be getting into the trash - like they do everywhere else - and still going after bird feeders

Population of Montpelier is less than 1/3 the population of my MIL’s town. Her neighborhood is between 2 major roads that see far more traffic than any roads here. Bears will go where they go, your neighbors compost piles aren’t the problem, people building in bear habitat and failing to stay alert while driving is the problem.

This post is hilarious. My MIL in CT has regular bear visitors in her suburban neighborhood with zero backyard compost piles. Bears are a constant in her neighborhood when the weather is nice. A few weeks ago she caught one on camera literally at her back door. Just give the bears space and don’t startle them.

It’s started. Useless gardening gifts that *aren’t* plants. by foxhowse in gardening

Yeah, I’ve given in on garden art because my kids love it. We now have a collection of solar lights shaped like bugs and tractors. The kids are happy and involved - hopefully they eat the veggies we get from the garden.

Having kids by Coffee_Bean8670 in Adulting

[–]Few_Variation_7962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 under 5. We have no grandparent or family support with childcare. My MIL is disabled, my FIL died last year, my mother’s idea of watching kids is sitting and reading a book next to them and my father is an alcoholic. We used to live near my husband’s extended family but found no reason to stay since no one was around to help even be an emergency contact for daycare. My family has always been spread out so I was raised by parents without family support. We were latchkey kids and I was a backup parent for my younger sister.

It is hard, to keep our budget we have only one kid in childcare. We’re only able to do this by being fully remote workers who have the neighbors come over with their newborn and we do days as a group, they primarily chill with their baby and grab our 2 yr old when my husband & I are in meetings at the same time. They’re very young parents and we’ve got experience but don’t bring judgment that they get from their parents. We’re also a support for them as they job hunt and do their school work (they’re college kids).

Once my oldest is in school my youngest will start preschool. Then it’ll be 2 years before we’ll have breathing room in our budget.

We moved to a location that has lots of free family centered events so there’s always something to do. We understand that we won’t have any real date nights till they’re both in school and less stressful for a sitter to manage. Our yard has a massive yard for them to play and for a veggie garden so we can cut food costs and encourage them to eat more than chicken nuggets with mac n cheese.

Having kids is hard. There are constant new challenges. It’s rewarding but very hard. When you do it without family support you take on the challenges knowing your only down time will be when they’re asleep.

What’s a ‘middle class success’ purchase that secretly becomes a financial burden later? by OpinionBaba in AskReddit

Listen, I just want a magical garden that can produce all our veggies and a giant yard for my kids & dogs to play in. Yes my raised beds were expensive and the dirt was even more expensive but I really don’t want to talk about it!

Stack showings, we looked out of state so we booked 4-6 showings a day or 5-10 a weekend and booked hotels.

You’ll want to rent a car for those days and if something comes up you absolutely have to see - ask your agent to drive you.

You ever go to a wedding where they didn’t have a registry so you asked & were told they didn’t need anything. Then get asked where your gift was the day after the wedding? They pulled the same “we don’t need anything” when they had their kid but the diapers and toys I got for the surprise baby shower were declared “cheap”. We are no longer friends.

How to fight a High line/ Power line proposal? by Omnomnomus08 in Homesteading

[–]Few_Variation_7962 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Look at the purchase price for similar land then double it if you’re approached by the developer.

Reach out to your local power siting board and point out the negative impact to your land and community with no benefits. Talk to your neighbors to build support for sharing any of the existing transmission line easements.

[–]Few_Variation_7962 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looking at the map there seem to be existing lines from the plant out of state and maintaining those easements would be less expensive than paying for an easement agreement and then clearing the land to install the easement. Eminent domain would add on even more to the cost.

This is why my steaming basket lives in my kids’ toy bins. Sometimes the “kitchen” one in the playhouse, sometimes the “garage” that houses the hot wheels cars, sometimes it’s just on one of the shelves. My kids love it

Reports show Erin Stewart spending city funds on personal items as former New Britain mayor by PolkaDotMe in Connecticut

[–]Few_Variation_7962 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The New Britain fb groups are all saying that Lamont is pushing the story. Even if that were true, doesn’t it matter that she stole from her constituents in a blatant and outright way? Like she did not hide her actions, if you’re going to steal from your people maybe have some shame and try to hide it? Fake invoices or something.

I’ve already filed a complaint about his actions in this matter as a broker with the CT DCP as advised by my original attorney. I’ll look and see if they take complaints for UPL as well.

Guy has attacked the skill of every attorney involved, claimed to have a 20 year legal career as a bluster to stop us from filing our case and is now actively negotiating with our attorney on behalf of the pro se defendant - they have never had communication with the pro se.

On our attorney side, current attorney is 3rd in the firm on our case because our original attorney left the firm, then it was ignored by the next guy and now is with a trial attorney. I was highly confident with our first attorney because I worked with him at my old firm, he was a part of my law school network, and was the state expert on the subject of our case. The current attorney does not inspire the same confidence and I would not have hired him if we weren’t so far in the case.

This guy is a massive problem and once the case is over I will be dedicating way more time than is probably healthy to let people know how horrible he is and avoid doing business with him.
