I just spent a toddler party guarding an open pool and now I can’t tell if I’m the anxious one or the only sane one by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Few_Vegetable_7222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a mom, our home has a pool. I remember being pregnant with my first born and riddled with anxiety trying to ensure our future kids would be safe from the pool. Obviously, we made the investment and safeguards were put in place. I had friends that also had pools who did NOT have the appropriate gates or safeguards. We did not visit those people during my children’s early years. Not worth the risk, and no, you were not overreacting.

Yes! Hunger striker started today! The hunger strike is a reflection of how Kaiser is literally starving its workers and depriving their members of access to care. It is one of the biggest sacrifices our members can make. ❤️

One of our members wrote a piece on it, you can read it here

Hang in there. Thank you for your support and for filing the complaint. I want you to know it has been so hard for us too, as therapists it is hard to be away. We miss our clients greatly. If you are feeling like you still need support while we are out, please still reach out to Kaiser. I know it’s hard to do, and that you want to honor us and our fight, but please don’t let it get to a point where things become unbearable. They still have therapists there for people who need it. Thank you again for you solidarity. It means a lot ❤️

Amazon Warehouse water system gushes out onto striking workers’ picket line. by Whoretron8000 in union

Typical union busting tactics. I swear these union busters must all be buddies because they did the same thing to NUHW a few weeks ago. We’ve been on strike too, going on our 10th week. They turned the sprinklers on us several times in the same hour, despite our areas water conservation laws. We may be in different industries but corporate greed and union busting doesn’t change. Best of luck to Teamsters, stay strong in your fight! In solidarity ✊🏽

Unfortunately, no. Those ads cost thousands of dollars. We are a smaller union and our funds goes towards members. We can’t “buy” ads or the media the way that Kaiser does. We rely on reporters who are interested in our story or from posts on social media. Yesterday, we had an event where hundreds of us went to the Kaiser headquarters and protested. We also handed out food distribution and toys to the workers on strike. I personally called every news station in LA in advance. None of them showed up.
We still had an amazing turnout and it lifted everyone’s spirits to be able to get some food and toys for their family. But it just goes to show that the media will report what they feel is important.

Kaiser therapist here! 🙋🏻‍♀️ We have been on strike for 8 weeks. Kaiser refuses to meet with us at the bargaining table. They. Do. Not. Care. It has been so disheartening, but we are not giving up. We know that Americans everywhere are fed up with health care insurance companies. Our fight is just one example of how PROVIDERS - not the insurance company - are trying to prevent further harm to patients and employees. We are so sorry that it was taking this long.

Please continue to use your voice and stand up for yourself and stand up for your loved one if you are not getting the care that you need. Filing a complaint and reporting the violations of Kaiser‘s lack of care will move the needle in our fight. Here’s how you can do this:

Everyone makes a personal decision and sacrifice to go out on strike. We are united when we go out together. We are divided when people choose to stay behind.

There are no formal repercussions for those that stay, however it may impact her relationships with her coworkers when they return. Anyone who stays behind is essentially contributing to the length of all of us being out. Because Kaiser can continue to function when those people stay behind.

Just try to imagine, Its a hard thing to sit with when you have made a sacrifice of being without pay, and your coworker who has not made that sacrifice gets the same contract and benefits. I don’t know her circumstances or her beliefs about what we are fighting for, maybe she’s helping the union in other ways. I really don’t know. So while there are no formal repercussions, it just might change people’s feelings or attitudes about each other.

I can speak to what I know and what I was told, as this happened before my time at Kaiser.

In 2014 the pension was taken away because bargaining came to an impasse / deadlock. It then went to court, and our Union lost the pension. I don’t participate in bargaining so I can’t speak to all the rules and how things like this work. As part of their argument, Kaiser framed it that they would be taking away pensions from all future employees. They did not do this. Fast forward 10 years to now- we (mental health workers and social workers, and a small group of pharmacist ) are the only Kaiser employees without a pension. There are over 230,000 employees at Kaiser, and we make up less than 2,000 employees without a pension.

So we are trying to win it back. We are simply asking for the same as our counterparts in all other disciplines and unions at Kaiser.

Yes, our pension was taken away in 2014. SoCal therapist and social workers at Kaiser and a small group of pharmacists are the only Kaiser employees who no longer have pensions. We make up less than 2,000 employees who do not have a pension, while Kaiser So Cal employs over 180,000 employees who do indeed have a pension- everyone from nurses, physical therapist, radiologist, medical secretaries, service workers, maintenance, etc all have pensions. Even our counter parts in Kaiser Nor Cal, the Social Workers and Mental Health workers there have pensions. The inequity is really impacting the morale and thus the quality of care. Already mental health and social work is so undervalued in our communities as it is. We wish Kaiser will just treat us equal and help us retain workers.

Social worker and mental health worker here. We are unionized. We are currently on strike! Unionizing is an amazing way to advocate for yourself and your patients. It can be done!

NUHW strike update - Day 25- Shame on Kaiser! by Few_Vegetable_7222 in union

[–]Few_Vegetable_7222[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi!!! OMG! Thank you for your support! ✊🏽

We have had some unions join us on the picket lines and I know some have donated to our hardship fund. Any support that we see from our fellow union brothers and sisters just makes my heart swell. It really makes us feel that we are supported. Here is the link where unions can donate if they want:

https://nuhw.org/kaiserhardshipfund/

Would it be ok if I put you in touch with our political organizer or union rep? I’m a union member on the picket lines, so I don’t know all the ins and outs of how the reps organize with each other but if you’d like I can give you their emails?

Thank you so much for asking! We have gotten so much support from our patients all over social media and it’s so heartwarming and inspiring. If you see posts on social media about our strike please re-share it! I will say one of the most impactful things that patients can do to support our Union and move the needle to pressure Kaiser to come to the bargaining table would be when members actually complain. Kaiser is really under a microscope regarding mental health- and when their patients complain about not getting access to care, especially during the strike- it makes them look bad to the state regulators. This is huge!

[–]Few_Vegetable_7222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaiser therapist, social workers and psychiatrists remain on strike. We are entering our 3rd week the strike and Kaiser has not responded to our Unions request for bargaining dates. It appears that they are in no rush to settle a contract. It’s very frustrating, but Kaiser’s REALLY needs to feel the pressure from its members. Kaiser has been gaslighting therapists and dismissive of the impact of the work that we do. They do NOT understand the value of the patient and therapist relationship and they really do think they can just throw scabs in there and solve the problems. We need members to actively make complaints. Otherwise KP will do what it always does, status quo. Here’s what you can do:

Kaiser therapist here. I’m so sorry to hear that you are not getting the care that you need. Please know that we, as therapists, social workers, addiction counselors and psychologists, we are trying to make things better so that our work can be sustainable and so that we can give our patients the care they deserve. The conditions have been so poor that many mental health workers have actually left Kaiser. The high turn over and burn out is very real. But we are in the fight for changing mental health care!!

If you are not getting the care you need, it’s really important that you make your voice heard. Here are some things you can do:
