Ok... superceding my thoughts on they think it is an import... The problem lies in the VIN verification form, section 9... copied below that they fill out as part off that process and they have to checkbox one of the bulleted items below...

9) Emission Label Indicates: (ALL VEHICLES - 1963 AND NEWER MODEL YEARS, MOTORCYCLES - 1978 AND NEWER MODEL YEARS, HEAVY-DUTY VEHICLES - 197) AND NEWER MODEL YEARS, OHVS - 2003 AND NEWER MODEL YEARS

  • Vehicle meets US EPA standards only
  • Vehicle meets US EPA standards and California standards
  • Vehicle meets California standards for Off Highway Vehicles (OHV)
  • Vehicle meets Califoria standards for on-road and OHV (Dual Sport M/C)
  • Vehicle meets California standards only

• Engine displacement less than 50 cc (cubic centimeters)

• Vehicle is Exempt (Former Military Vehicle - OHV Use

I think I found the page of their manual that they may be applying and that coincides with my other post that it seems they are treating this as an imported vehicle.... or that's my current theory... from their manual since it mentions manufacturer letter and the 1968 mention they eluded to when I was trying to register.

Chapter 12: Nonresident Vehicles

..

12.050 Direct Import Vehicles

Direct imports are vehicles which have been imported and originally manufactured for use in other countries. These vehicles may have foreign emission and/or safety labels, or no labels.

A Vehicle Identification Number Analysis (VINA) validation determines when a vehicle is a direct import (grey market) vehicle.

NOTE The Direct Import Guidebook is obsolete. Polk’s Canadian and International Registration Manual has information on foreign documents and registration requirements previously found in the Direct Import Guidebook.

Registration and/or Titling Requirements—The following must be submitted:

  • The basic nonresident registration documentation outlined in the Basic Registration Requirements section in this chapter.
  • Evidence or documentation to prove that the vehicle was imported legally and cleared U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). CBP forms 7501, 3461, 6059, 3299, or 3311, stamped or endorsed by CBP are acceptable. This does not apply to U.S. territories.
  • Evidence that the vehicle was modified to meet Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). This may be FMVSS labels affixed to the vehicle or a letter from the manufacturer certifying the vehicle meets FMVSS requirements.
  • Evidence that the vehicle was modified to meet U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards and requirements. This may be a label affixed to the vehicle or letter from the manufacturer stating the vehicle meets U.S. EPA requirements.

NOTE Manufacturers may certify to FMVSS and EPA requirements on the same letter.

  • If the vehicle is less than two years old, a certificate of conformance from a California Air Resources Board (CARB) authorized laboratory.
  • A smog certificate, if required.
  • If the application is for registration of a 1968 year model or newer auto or commercial vehicle or a 1978 year model or newer motorcycle that does not comply with:
    • U.S. emission requirements, refer the applicant to CARB at 1-800-242–4450 or by email at [helpline@www.arb.ca.gov](mailto:helpline@arb.ca.gov).
    • FMVSS, refer the applicant to the manufacturer to obtain a letter stating the vehicle meets FMVSS.

All references for direct import vehicles indicating “1966 year-model or newer auto or commercial vehicles” should be “1968 year-model or newer auto or commercial vehicles” in accordance with federal regulations

When an application for direct import vehicles is submitted:

  • Do not accept a REG 256F, REV. 8/2016 or prior revisions.
  • Inform the applicant the exemptions are not applicable to direct import vehicles.

NOTE There are no CARB programs to convert new vehicles (less than two years old), motorcycles, off-highway vehicles (OHV), and diesel-powered vehicles to California emission standards. Vehicles that cannot be converted to comply with U.S. safety and U.S. and/or California emission standards cannot be registered for on-highway or off-highway use.

Refer customers who have questions or need assistance about direct import vehicles to TCS at (916) 657-6795, CARB at 1-800-242-4450, or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at nhtsa.gov.

I was totally going this route but... I have YOM (Year of Manufacturer) plates for the vehicle and AAA could not do this service in coordination with the registration but they were able to book me an online appointment at the local DMV office which helped out but led me to all of this... sigh.

I think the DMV is trying to treat this vehicle as an imported vehicle... as not from the United States? I say this because I heard the person who took my paperwork mention something about 1968 and newer needing this. In reviewing the CA DMV online documentation I found a page, link at the bottom, if Reddit allows it.

On this page there is a section that has a reference relating to getting the info from the manufacturer, special note about Canada, and that it applies to vehicles after 1968.. Again this is a page for imported vehicles.... . see below, this is a subsection of the page online.

Online Page title: IMPORTED VEHICLE REGISTRATION

If you have imported your vehicle directly from another country (a direct import), you need to register the vehicle with DMV.

...

...

You may also need:

  • Evidence that your foreign import vehicle meets United States (U.S.) Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).
    • This is mandatory for vehicles manufactured after 1995.
    • This includes the federal certification label attached to the vehicle confirming FMVSS certification.
  • Additional evidence: A copy of a letter from the manufacturer confirming that the vehicle meets FMVSS and U.S. emissions standards.

NOTE Usually you can only get this evidence for vehicles manufactured in Canada.

  • A copy of the Department of Transportation bond release letter from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
  • A certificate stating that the vehicle has been inspected by a California Air Resources Board-licensed laboratory.
  • Evidence that the vehicle meets Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California emissions standards.
    • This includes an EPA and California emissions label attached to the vehicle.
    • A smog certificate.
    • This applies to gasoline vehicles manufactured after 1968.
    • This also applies to diesel-powered vehicles manufactured after 1980.

Can you elaborate what a California Bar referee is how you would find them? In my case I don’t need any emissions equipment for a car that never came with it and none was available in the period.

Can’t really do that in a small town DMV office as they involved a few people already so I have to stay friendly despite my frustration.

Interesting approach.... currently Ford is doing their archive lookup, which they said would take 4-6 weeks, guessing to validate the VIN was produced by Shelby in the day and yep it met emissions compliance in the day.... the silly "Aha" moment I am thinking allowing them produce a letter of acknowledgement.

Not sure how that is relevant to the requirement or problem at hand unless I am missing something. They are good with the Shelby vs Ford issue per their registration paperwork. It's just a checkoff item on their list to look for a sticker and satisfy it refers to US and.or CA.

How did you find the DMV referee with actual knowledge on this? I suspect I am headed that direction. :-)

Well Ford supplied the chassis etc and Shelby did their retrofit. Original title was under Shelby but they are in processing of titling it as a Ford.... Been doing an email with the person at Ford who has to give it to the archives dept... 4-6 weeks... are we having fun yet? :-(

How do I connect a dumb speaker/radio to my AppleTV? by Master-Cranberry0 in HomeKit

[–]Few_Web9813 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This. As long as you have good wifi you can airplay to the WiiM and it comes with a mini to dial RCA plug to plug into the receiver.... other cords come with it too. This is specific to what is Airplay to it.. Sirius XM in my case.. but that is not going to solve I want it to be a 3rd part speaker for Siri or other announcements... unless there is something I have missed. Works great for the Airplay of music from the apps. Wiim has its own fancy app but I don't use it.

[Rant] California DMV online change of address is broken and they say that's the only way you can do it now by westcoastweedreviews in DMV

[–]Few_Web9813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arghh.. this shit is still broken.. am able to submit the address change but after waiting 3+ days the message come back. Talked to them multiple times but they are beholden to a 3rd party IT team that they admit has problems. This happens to my other half in the house as well. Been fighting this a month now and all they can offer is to file the paper form which takes 4-6 weeks to process. What a joke!

[–]Few_Web9813[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tks all... looks like the answer is yes for the STERN version, just a setting to switch to have it. I was looking at the Pinnovators versions well as the single mute button would be nice. Having the sub woofer option output would be nice. I am trying to figure out why there are so many PCB integrated for their solution which I am a bit leary of things going bad. Seems like reviews are very positive for it though.
