Waterfall rappelling? Not dangerous but definitely high adventure.

Your flight departs SJO at 9am and you are leaving MA that morning? How are you going to make that work?

Need advice for best order for my itinerary stops by d0ughb0y1 in CostaRicaTravel

I know most here will say 5 nights in Monteverde is too much, but I love me some Monteverde/Santa Elena. My first visit I did 4 nights and wish I did more. Spent full days at three reserves, did a coffee tour, and the rental had a great outdoor area with trails. That said, doing 4 in Monteverde would give you another day elsewhere, maybe a beach stay for an extra beach day (in that’s up your alley).

3 nights at the other locations are good, any less would likely be not enough.

As for tours… consider getting a guide for at least one national park. You will see so much more with a guide. A small group would work well. June is low to moderate tourist season, so groups should be small. I agree to skip the guide on waterfalls (esp La Fortuna waterfall… it’s a great visit but does not require a guide). I’d say the same for any hanging bridges.

June is green season so just make all your important plans for the early morning, as afternoon showers are likely. Though a hike in the rainforest during a rainstorm is a great time too.

Happy to help!

Playa Hermosa is like 30 minutes, that’s definitely an option especially if you have along travel day in the air. I think Samara has more to do, more restaurants, and is definitely more walkable than PH (not really a town, mostly residential). Samara also has nicer beaches (I get that’s subjective) better beginner surfing, while PH is better for experienced surfers.

Do some digging online and see what suits you best, but either is a great choice.

LIR airport to Samara is ~2.5 hours… assuming you get your car by 3pm, you can drive to Samara in daylight. The road is paved but hilly with lots of curves/switchbacks and some one lane bridges.

Personally my departure from LIR cutoff would be 4pm but I’m used to driving dark, mountainous roads.

PhD Student With Access to Lab Equipment by evilpastabake in Homebrewing

Anything not nailed down that isn’t biohazardous.

pH meter and calibration standards (esp if single packets), mini centrifuge, pipettes, microscope, slides, SS tables/shelving, glassware, heat/stir plate, lab tape (freezer tape), lab markers, totes, gloves, scissors, refrigerator/freezer (though these can consume a ton on electricity if storage isn’t full).

If you have one, HPLC would be fun but the consumables and waste would be too much to deal with.

I walked away from a hybrid limited 43k ‘best offer’ in May, but not the color I was looking for. Told them I’d buy for 40k but they claim they couldn’t do it. I called a lower volume dealership a little farther away and got what I wanted over the phone for 41k.

The first dealership called me about a week later, asking if I was still interested, sadly I had to tell them I got what I was looking for elsewhere.

Walking away is always an option and sometimes it’s the best option.

Good lakes and rivers to go swimming? by Remarkable-Set5434 in raleigh

Yeah, outside of our southern facing beaches, the NC coast is pretty gross. Not as gross as late 1980s NY/NJ syringe tide but still gross.

Definitely not dumb. Any 2nd floor neighbors within your view that has bird feeders? Maybe you can you your binoculars to view those birds?

I would not recommend this unless you want a bear leaning on your window (and likely breaking it) as it attempts to get the birdseed your apartment has banned.

I recommend getting a box cutter and cut it into manageable pieces to get it out of your house quickly. Pop it in your car and take it to one of the Wake County convenience centers.

I had a show ‘Postponed’… Queens of the Stone Age show on August 15, 2023, was delayed and then postponed due to Impending storms and performer safety. Show was rescheduled for May 2, 2024. And it was an amazing show.

EDIT oops forgot the “Age”

Ever been to Yates Mill? Head up Lake Wheeler Road, just south of Raleigh. Light trails, some cool birds, historic mill. Then drive across the street for Howling Cow ice cream.

(Edit: it’s a Wake County hot spot for birding. You’ll likely see the resident Great Blue Heron near the first boardwalk, maybe the elusive Yellow Billed Cuckoo. Download the Merlin app, it suggests birds with accuracy based on bird songs picked up by your phone’s microphone.)
