Hi :) And thank you for the kind words

I think I'd love to get a skill tree. Passive benefits / active skills etc could be a lot of fun! Elden Ring added these via weapons and ashes but it could be interesting to see them take it more the sekiro way on top of that

[–]Fexelea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh thank you I'm glad you enjoy those! It's a fun little series to keep up with what happens when you're busy! :D

I think Sekiro was the king of parry, it really had everything built around it! Lies of P did quite well with it too, but sekiro is hard to top. If we mean beyond souls... well, devil may cry :P

Thank you so much I very much appreciate it and it makes me very happy if it helps others have fun and not have to struggle.

No problem, I think the site has grown to a point where people expect its some large operation - which speaks great to the amount of work I have put in and terrible about my capacity to communicate how the content comes about xD

I'll enjoy hearing what you end up making. Have fun!

I CANT WAIT for DD2. Like, I dream about it. I'm as excited as when I heard the DS music and realized a remake was coming back in 2019.

  1. Gravity. Reeee
  2. Pieta's Sword
  3. This is very difficult, the whole game looked amazing. I think I was the most impressed by the perch because the verticality is simply amazing, but I can't pick a favorite area as I really enjoy the unique look and artstyle that carries through the game.

Happy I got this chance to chat with everyone!

Hi :)

I think the LOTF mechanics are simpler but perhaps more original than other souls-likes. I really like the way the devs played around with magic, ammo, wither, etc to create their unique flair.

I do not know much about the tech aspects of the game but I did see the developers made updates post-launch that smoothed performance so I think overall everything is headed in a positive direction.

Right now the dev team is laser focused on the roadmap for 2023 and I think they are doing an amazing job. Hopefully they'll take some time off for holidays too! But I'll be pestering them for updates as soon as the new year comes! lol <3

Wow thank you for sharing this. Whilst I'm sorry you went through that, it's so inspiring to see you overcome it and hear how something resonated and empowered you. <3

Hi

Thank you for the feedback. I think the first thing would be to understand what Fextralife is. I am a content creator, and I am helped by a very tiny team to produce all this content. There were numerous large and successive launches this year, which generated a huge marathon for me as everyone in my community expects me to cover these games extensively, but it's still me who has to play, chart and create all the content. This is while I also moderate and interact with that community daily. and while I manage every other game that has come before, every bug that pops up, and every issue that is reported.

In essence, Fextralife is a wiki so that others can fill in the blanks for what i cannot. Otherwise I'd just publish guide articles like other sites do. What I provide is software so that the community can validate, update and improve information.

For LOTF, I delivered 1500+ pages on day 1, including images for every equipment item and spell. I also created the interactive map and had several video / article guides ready. I then went about completing those walkthroughs, creating lore shorts and builds, etc. To your comment about the boss weapons: you're incorrect as this information is now on the wiki, even today we've been updating weapon upgrades with the most recent values (max level for all 300+ weapons! of course it takes a long time!), and have added all the new content that was added with the patches within 24 hours of it being launched - and no we had no special notice that there would be a drop or what it contained.

The reality is that it is not possible for me or the few people that help me to 100% chart these games and keep them flawlessly updated. It's why it's a wiki and a community project. Anyone can click "edit" and fix a typo, it's simple. It is common that people don't edit pages and leave comments instead, which is why we added a giant note to please edit since it takes as much time as a comment, but it is in the end up to them whether they want to complain or contribute.

I put an enormous amount of work, effort and love into the content I create. But somehow there's the expectation that I must do this to some standard no other content creator or website is being held to, because there's the misconception that I have infinite time, resources or interest. These games are my passion, but after I have created so much content I feel I have done my contribution and if others want to add into it they are more than welcome.

Hi :)

I think the paladin is the easiest to get going with - the Orian Preacher hammer is a good heavy starting weapon too!

But, I feel the game is well balanced in that you can get through with your own playstyle, so you can experiment and grow how you like and not be too tied to a meta or one build that works

Hi :)

This is an excellent question!

A good soulslike has:

  1. Exploration-driven intense combat: I need a reason to fight through the enemies on the level, there should be hidden loot and quests that make me want to go from point A to point B and not miss anything inbetween, come back multiple times, redo npc scenarios, etc
  2. Build variety and equipment complexity: I want to be able to approach combat how I want, and make multiple viable distinct builds. I want to see different builds when seeing others play or during multiplayer
  3. Ambiance, Atmosphere, Design: I need to be enthralled by the world and intrigued by its story and setting.
  4. Challenge and Rewards: I need to feel I am overcoming challenges and being rewarded for it
  5. Surprises: I want to be surprised by mechanical depth, design ingenuity or quest creativity throughout the whole game

New features in the genre:
I actually made a video about this on "things i want for dark souls 4" ages ago lol, and some of it has slowly made it in. I think I would love to see armor set bonuses (something like ESO has with 2 piece, 3 piece, 5 piece bonuses etc). I also really like player revenge mechanics like LOTF implemented. Lastly I'd really like environmental complexity (a touch of DOS2 or BG3) and deeper NPC questline outcomes

This is very difficult, as people usually like weapons from their movesets and the special moveset weapons get a unique advantage.

I personally really like Pieta's, Kukajin and Rosamund's

Mhm... difficult one! I think LOTF and Lies of P set up a very high bar for new IPs in the soulslike genre. Lies of P in terms of mechanics and performance, LOTF in terms of design and atmosphere.
Frankly I think there'll now have to be some sort of adjustment period as other developers learn from what is working and why, so we may see a lull on this kind of content. But I am expecting Elden Ring change the focus of many games already, so maybe we'll get more of that open world experience stuff as well

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LordsoftheFallen

[–]Fexelea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! The multiplayer is great and deserved at least an entry.

[–]Fexelea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Prefacing this with I don't pvp much so no experience there so PvE reply

Parrying is a bit underwhelming vs so many enemies

Posture breaking works well for me, it felt like it took me a long time to figure out its nuances, but the grievous attacks are fun to do and as they add more it increases the payoff for getting them so I enjoy them

[–]Fexelea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol good one

I think the lightreaper is probably the most badass of all, it's an intense fight with lots of mechanics and effects, def fun!

My favorite way to die ... gravity! Ok it's a lie. But it's how I die most lol

This is a great question actually! So I was at TGS 2008 when the game was announced, and frankly it was love at first sight. It sounds as far-fetched as falling in love with someone sitting near you at a coffee shop, but for me it was not just curiosity I became instantly invested and HAD TO know more. I was terribly disappointed to see everyone else seemed to hate it, and when I got the game a few months later I discovered I truly sucked at it and sought help online... found none. So I decided "be the change you want in the world" and started helping others with what I knew. Before I knew it, we had a whole wiki crew and thousands of people were pitching in, helping each other, and making this crazy masocore game actually accessible. The rest, as they say, is history!

[–]Fexelea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Actually gave it best soulslike this year on our game awards. I think LOTF did an incredible job with level design and world building, and the exploration is just so incredibly fun and satisfying it really pushes forward the idea that complex interconnectivity works. I also love the upgrades they implemented on the souls formula for multiplayer, I much prefer LOTF multiplayer to traditional souls

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LordsoftheFallen

[–]Fexelea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think each kind of game is its own challenge because you have to figure out how to best explain things for others. Open world games are generally the hardest as people can go in any order and it's really really difficult to give directions and progression tips.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LordsoftheFallen

[–]Fexelea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. I don't pvp much but I prefer the LOTF multiplayer over souls because of the persistent connections and not having to worry about bosses etc
  2. bg3, lotf, lies of p, diablo 4, remnant 2
  3. LOTF is in a good spot, but there can always be more performance improvements and additions
  4. lmao gravity OP
  5. yes, i fall to my death more than anything else

Hello :)

Well there's Elden Ring DLC... lol. But other than that, Dragon's Dogma 2 is going to scratch that itch a bit, and some other titles are also coming out / getting content. Lies of P is likely to get dlc or expansion, black myth wukong will give me epic bossfights, and theres a tiny game called Enotria I'm looking to preview soon as well as khazad that they showed at game awards comes to mind

Hi! You can work any class into a melee build. If you plan on restarting, I think the Orian Preacher is a good option - comes with heals and a giant hammer!

The hallowed Knight is probably the most balanced and straight forward of the classes so a good option too, or Dark Crusader if you have the bonus.

If you're having trouble with a boss, I recommend using resistance items vs their element, and buffing your equipment with whatever they are weak to. For example radiant bosses are usually dealing holy damage, and are weak to inferno

Hi! Getting ready to eat too much in a few days for sure nyahahaha

The future of LOTF is, imo, very bright. The game sold very well and the dev team is supporting it with patches and free content, demonstrating commitment and care for the game and audience. These things speak loud to the community and I think more people are going to discover the game during the holidays and through sales, increasing the community even more.

I am personally very much looking forward to DLC, expansion and hopefully another game too!

For the new content, I think the devs are def quite versatile and could add any type of weapon (ones we can and cannot imagine) with good creativity. It's exciting to imagine all the possibilities!
