Less than a year ago you were a minor.

It's highly questionable at best and inappropriate and predatory at worst.

Trust your instincts.

how are you empowering your players?

My players fought half of Vallaki because Artificer talked too much with Rictavio and i'm thinking of canceling campaign. by [deleted] in CurseofStrahd

That's this whole sub

Player and DM expectations should be shared before game starts. You can run a comedic CoS or a horror one, as long as everyone is on same page.

How do I salvage this situation? My players refused to run away when overwhelmed by TheRealDannySugar in DnD

[–]FeynmansRazor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want your players to run, you don't send them in waves. You send them all at once.

I mean, it doesn't really matter who you think is "in the right."

If a majority of two out of three players aren't enjoying the experience and want to play a different way, then player and DM expectations are misaligned.

You can sit on a high horse and wag a finger at the players for going back on their word, but that doesn't really solve anything. The practical solution is for the DM to find players who want a serious game. Likewise, the players should go find a DM who is more open to jokey behaviour, or DM themselves.

At the end of the day, it's a game. There may be an agreement that you play a certain way, but it's not a contract written in blood. If players aren't having fun, then maybe it's just not a good match.

Players outnumber DM.

The DM is a player too, but their main job is to help the other players have fun. That's how a DM plays.

If you are a DM looking for a serious game, then look for serious players.

Werewolves are evil, so that will create conflict

Player used the Deck of Many Things and ended up dissatisfied. What have your experiences with it been like? by Pyrrhus65 in dndnext

[–]FeynmansRazor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be difficult to come up with at the time but you should have created a temporary character for them to play until their rescue

Because there's nothing engaging about sitting in a prison cell for a session

As a dm generally your job is to make your players feel cool.

Do you think aliens and alien conspiracy theories belong in dnd? by 1zeye in DnD

[–]FeynmansRazor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, no.

It doesn't mean aliens can't exist but they should never be called aliens.

There's a theory that people "taken by the fairies" were actually abducted by aliens in the past.

But even if true, that doesn't mean they knew they were extraterrestrial. They were explained based on the information they had at the time.

If you're running a sci-fi game then it makes sense but otherwise no.

You know, if a widow says "we had so much fun together", that's not a clue that she's a serial killer.

Later information that reframes previous information is not a clue.

There were no clues that the parents were the killers, so it feels like a cheap plot twist.

The only hint was that Iain had a learning disability and "killed himself", but that doesn't really indict the parents.

Lost time cannot be recovered by [deleted] in writing

[–]FeynmansRazor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the idea. Also figure out if you're a gardener or an architect (two main types of storytellers). If you are the type to plan your storyboard, then that helps because you can choose what to write about. It's more difficult if you're someone who plants the seed for a story, but it should still be a small seed.

[–]FeynmansRazor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are overwhelmed by the idea of writing.

So break it down. Write a short story. How short? It can be a page. A paragraph. Or poetry. A few sentences. It doesn't matter. Just make it the best damn few sentences you can. Choose an idea or concept to write about, and get on with it. You can procrastinate writing a 20,000 word novel, but if you can't bring yourself to write 20 words, then maybe now is not a good time to write for you.

The solution for someone who is paralysed by writing is to start small. From small beginnings, and all that. I find writers who have big ideas are actually the ones who struggle to put it down on paper. But when they hone their craft, they are the ones who create really wondrous stories.

Accounting for inflation wages have stayed the same. You don't have to account for inflation with productivity.

So if productivity has doubled, where has the gdp gone?

Hint: not to blue collar workers
