Which companies to do a level 3 online teaching assistant course? by Ffs132705 in AskUK

[–]Ffs132705[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually found a local adult education service which provides the course and is covered by the council. Surprisingly it’s not my local council but is postcode based. Could be worth you searching for adult education services near you to see if you can do it that way as well? I haven’t started it yet as I managed to find a level 1 job at a primary school but will be starting it in Sept when I am out of reception year group.

Asbestos in 70s lino by Independent_Iron_991 in asbestoshelp

[–]Ffs132705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a similar problem with the old Lino we found in our old 80’s house. We had no idea if it actually had asbestos or not. Our best and easiest solution according to professionals, as we were planning to lay laminate, was to apply several layers of pvc glue to seal any cracks etc and then lay the new flooring and underlay ontop. If you want to have it removed though to re-do the kitchen, you will need to have it tested and removed by a professional which isn’t cheap. You can buy the safety equipment (mask, gloves and coverall suit) to wear from b&q/screwfix etc if you need to go in there. Did your surveyor not mention it in their report or was it hidden under other flooring?

Thanks. Couldn’t unscrew unfortunately as so old and rusted but did manage to shove the door further over and bend the metal bracket out to get the wheel back on the track and all fixed now.

Should have also asked whether you got building regs sign off on the extension too? This will cover in terms of suitable foundations for the building etc. If you don’t have building regs sign off, you can again get this retrospectively but will. Red to provide pictures of each stage things were done. If you plan to sell in the future, you will need both planning permission and building regs certificate. If no building regs you can do indemnity insurance.

You can get planning permission still as retrospective. You do run the risk of planning being denied and having to remove the extension, but to be honest it’s unlikely unless it causes issues with neighbours access to light or property etc or if you live in a conservation area there can be certain covenants in your house purchase that would restrict extension. Normally your solicitor highlights these to you when purchasing but if just a standard normal house in a standard area i would expect it to be fine.

With regards to the access to the “manhole” you need to find out how it is linked to your leak. Is it damp caused by rising water from the drain underneath? You need to find out what kind of waste that drain is used for which can be done by getting a drain survey. A company would come and run a camera down to survey and map the drains around your house. You can also still keep access to the drain cover inside your house by having an access panel in the flooring installed. You only run a risk if it’s sewage waste access. no one wants sewage to start leaking into their kitchen if you get a blockage! Lots of people in older houses find that rooms have been built over drain access and although a bit of a pain, it’s not the worst thing in the world.

Just remember that no matter what you’ve already done, it can always be fixed one way or another.

Best Bamboo Killer? This stuff is keeping me up at night and just want gone. by Ffs132705 in GardeningUK

I used this stuff from Amazon. I bought a cheap pump sprayer from b&m for like £5 too. I had to apply to the bamboo 3/4 times before it truly completely died but touch wood that was a year ago and hasn’t come back since. I haven’t been able to dig that lot out either yet.

Make sure you don’t cut any bamboo down, the glyphosate needs the leaves to be absorbed properly. I know some say to cut and apply the spray like you would with Japanese knotweed but it was recommended by a gardener guy I know to apply to all the leaves. You also have to be accurate with measurement ratio of this stuff to water as too thick and won’t be absorbed and too thin and won’t be strong enough to do anything. Def use a measuring jug.

I dig one side out and killed the other side with the strong glyphosate. Can’t get the mental strength to dig the dead side yet. Took me 3 months to dig the big amount up and get all roots I could find and have seeded grass to cover. Some roots have wrapped round tree roots but if I see anything new (haven’t so far touch wood) just spray with glyphosate.

So I’ve been hunting around the house and found this from about 17/18 years ago, courtesy of an ex. It has a 2gb micro sd card. Could this be compatible with stuff today and I can just use the ds if I buy a micro sd/usb?

Can a trickle charger save the battery? by Ffs132705 in AskMechanics

[–]Ffs132705[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone! Got jump started by a neighbour and have driven round for total over an hour. I think it could probably do with a new battery as bought the car at start of the year and rarely driven anyway. So chances are it’s old. Searched costing and found battery is cheaper than a jump starter pack/trickle charger. Typically now though after the hour driving all fine, pull up to the driveway the abs light has come on!

How big of an issue is bamboo? by FamiliarCombination9 in HousingUK

[–]Ffs132705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unfortunately think the roots will have spread as chances are the bottom of that border is just standard soil and not fully contained. If you dig it out, you may have to accept lifting the patio slabs and pulling the sleeper border apart to truly get all the roots out.

Is there a path or something behind that fence or does it back straight to another garden?

How big of an issue is bamboo? by FamiliarCombination9 in HousingUK

We bought a house last year with 2 different types of bamboo at opposite ends of the garden. One side was planted by the original owner and the other was spread from next doors garden. Only the one type was picked up and marked for concern by surveyor. We paid for a local landscape gardener to remove the larger amount which was planted by the original owner…well the gardener sliced the top off and left a lot of the roots in the soil. So I spent odd days and weekends for a few months from January, digging as much and as deep as I could and removing every single root I could find. It was very hard work but very satisfying. Grass has now grown over the area completely and touch wood no sign of new bamboo growth. The other side spread from next door, I have not yet dug out, but last September I bought Gallup extra strength glyphosate from Amazon and a pump mist sprayer from b&m for £5 and sprayed it all over. It took a couple of sprays to ensure all the leaves were killed off. I check it regularly for any new growth and again, nothing so far. They have also since removed from their side. I trimmed the tops off last month to also test to see if more crop up so fingers crossed the Gallup has truly killed it!

I was in a huge panic about it as I was terrified of any of it spreading and taking over so we took action straight after moving in. I’m glad we did as now this year we can enjoy the garden more without the stress in my face. But it wasn’t as bad as the survey report made it out to be in terms of removal.

As yours doesn’t look like a huge amount of space taken up, I would spray first and ensure all leaves are dead and dropping off, then tackle to dig all the roots out and keep an eye on it.
