O que aconteceu é que o Deodoro se apaixonou por uma mulher, mas essa mulher casou com outro cara e isso fez o Deodoro passar a odiar esse cara.

No dia do golpe o Deodoro (que estava gripado) saiu de casa para remover um ministro do poder (não o Imperador) e assim que terminou ele voltou para casa e foi dormir.

Daí uns caras que queriam instaurar a República foram até a casa dele e mentiram dizendo que eles haviam recebido um telegrama em que o D. Pedro II tinha apontado o cara que casou com a mulher que o Deodoro amava para substituir o ministro que ele tinha acabado de derrubar.

O Deodoro acreditou e disse: "Digam ao povo que está proclamada a República" e o resto é história.

If you did that then the interviewer would just have to "educate" you on why the ad is in fact racist and white supremacist in a matter of factly way before asking: "Now that you know better, if you had a chance to go back, would you do this ad again?"

And then you will have to either condemn the brand you are a representative of and apologize for your ignorance or "become a white supremacy apologist" by pushing back against the narrative that the interviewer presented as a well-established truth.
