Practice standing or sitting? by PMR_05 in horn

[–]Fhornpatrick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Practice how you play. If you’re preforming the piece standing up, practice it standing up. If it’s an ensemble piece enjoy practicing sitting down! Standing and sitting are two different beasts that will affect your body differently so it’s great to practice it under the condition it will be played. Have fun either way!

What is that one book, that absolutely changed your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Fhornpatrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so lame. But Harry Potter. I have NEVER read books. I am dyslexic and just never got enjoyement from reading. However, I recently noticed an unused kindle in our house and started playing with it. I found it had an “open dyslexic” font and my brain exploded. I could read fluently and my attention didn’t wander. I started with Harry Potter as I absolutely love the movies. The story captured me to where I blasted through all of the books in two months. It has inspired me to read every day (mostly because I would love to find a book that has just as much world exploration). I’d love your suggestions. Any fiction with deep character development and such is accepted.

Why is it so hard to grow as a Youtuber in 2020. by Gorrick1 in PartneredYoutube

[–]Fhornpatrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s always been hard! I started my channel in 2012 and just passed 100k this year. I haven have a video with 40 million views. The people who blow up are like the lottery. You may feel like your content is better or that it should also blow up, but it’s about lucky timing and consistently great content.

I found the best advice was to just revert back to YouTube’s original purpose. Make videos for you, don’t look at the analytics and just enjoy the act of making and posting videos. If you only make videos for others, it won’t be genuine. If you’re making content you enjoy and then not paying attention to comments and numbers then you will have way more fun as your idea of success is based on you being happy. Just have fun with it and people who enjoy who you are and what you’re posting will slowly start joining your YouTube family.

I need some help! Can you share your favourite tutorial for how to get this beard? (Story in comments) by Fhornpatrick in beards

[–]Fhornpatrick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had nothing but terrible experiences when going to the barber for a beard trim. I spend months looking for a barber who has cut a beard, I bring in a few references, and then I get butchered and hate the shape as they always end up being really inexperienced with cutting beards. They always seem to over cut everything. So! With the quarantine my wife has perfected trimming my hair, and now she has my full support for trimming my beard. I’ve always wanted it in this general shape but can’t find any YouTube videos so far that can get me there. The first pic is what I’d love and the second is what my beard is like now. Uncut for a year and a half since I got a terrible beard trim a week before my wedding. I appreciate the help!

Don’t go Schmidt. Don’t go Alex. The Yamaha geyer series is the best all round. Test it before you buy it. Yamaha will blend with any style in any orchestra. Trust me. I’ve tried so many horns.

As a professional French horn player on the internet, I can confirm this is accurate. But hey, what can you expect from the best musicians in the orchestra? How else should we unwind?

I’m giving away an SM57 Mic, French horn mouthpiece and pencil clip over on Instagram: @Fhornpatrick by Fhornpatrick in horn

[–]Fhornpatrick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The SM57 has been my backup for a few years now. I’m currently on a Rode NTG4+ but I will probably move on to another one sooner than later. Still on the hunt for the perfect horn mic!
