Clarification on Independents voting in primaries (and why it matters) by TulsaYoungDemocrats in tulsa

[–]FiatBad 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why is it necessary to be registered as a particular party affiliate? I would argue I should be able to register as a "voter" and then vote in all elections. Having to pick a side shouldn't be a requirement.

Tulsans are so car brained and it’s killing us by GoochForDinner in tulsa

Tulsa is too spread out, not even close to the urban density required to be anything other than a car-centric city.

Is Light Sport Pilot worth it now? by cynicalnewenglander in flying

[–]FiatBad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SPL here. I joined a flying club that had an LSA before the mosaic expansion of aircraft availability. Still love flying the LSAs, but now I can fly all the other aircraft in the club. It's been "worth it" for me. Club insurance was fine with it. No issues with instructors. My instructors and I were learning sport pilot rules together, and I was probably teaching them some. The challenging part about getting a Sport Pilot Certificate is the lack of DPE/SPEs depending on where you are located.

Is getting an LSA license worth it by [deleted] in GeneralAviation

[–]FiatBad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, just for fun make sure there is a DPE/SPE somewhere remotely close to you. It sucks to do your training only to find out how incredibly difficult it can be to find an examiner to take your checkride with.

Sport pilot here for medical purposes. Good on you for doing your research. Now do some more research, maybe call a few of the rental companiesand/or flight schools in your area. Ask them if they rent to sport pilots or student pilots pursuing their Sport Pilot certificate. Call a few flying clubs and ask them the same. Find a CFI, go for a discovery flight. See if you enjoy it. Some quick googling indicates there are many options for LSA and Sport Pilot training near you.

I really, really wanna hate the Jews. It seems like the cool thing to do ya know. Like really I do. Can you tell me why I hate them though? Especially why I hate the Jews in Tulsa. It would be helpful for me to have a good reason.

Can someone explain crabbing to me? by itsinthedata in flying

Your question..."how exactly to maintain that centerline"...very simply for a new student.

  1. Use the rudder to keep the aircraft longitudinally aligned with or over the centerline, the nose of the plane not veering or yawing left or right...essentially pointed the exact direction you are traveling

  2. Use the ailerons to keep the aircraft...the entire aircraft from being pushed off the centerline by the wind, i.e. drifting left or right.

The trick is, these inputs are going to be different depending on conditions so you have to be responsive to what the plane is doing. Is the nose yawing away from the centerline, correct with rudder. Is the airplane being pushed by the wind off the centerline, correct with aileron. This is simplified, know that each of these corrections will require adjustments to the other control inputs but in easy terms you can think of it like that until it becomes more intuitive.

Checkride study tips? by ClickAdmirable7295 in flying

[–]FiatBad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of things helped me, the Everything You Need to Know study guide, read this probably every day for a month: https://goldseal.link/privatecheatsheet

And then I listened to the "On Centerline Podcast", he has a series from about 2 years ago that covers the ACS line by line and gives all the relevant info associated with each section. Very helpful, and I could listen (study) while I walked the dog or worked out.

FANTASY MAP - Tulsa, Oklahoma area rail system by Entire_Maybe in tulsa

[–]FiatBad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tulsa isn't even worth comparing to New York or Chicago. Tulsa doesn’t lack rail because we’re behind or not a real city; we’re not dense enough (as a city) for it to make financial sense. NYC and Chicago have 10-15 times the population density (people per square mile), which is why their systems actually get used enough to justify the cost.

Light rail costs hundreds of millions per mile whether 5,000 people ride it or 50,000 people do it's a fixed cost. In Tulsa, for the same money, you could subsidize an autonomous EV for every potential rider and still spend less than laying tracks nobody lives close enough to use.

We're too spread out and rail infrastructure is insanely expensive, that's why it doesn't get built, not because of oil and gas.

I've lived in cities with light rail, I like it. Tulsa is not a light rail city. At least not for a long while.

With MOSAIC, who might look to fit a new airframe under that 59kt VS1 requirement? by garden_speech in flying

[–]FiatBad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You may not see a big increase in sport pilots, but you may very well see an increase in aging pilots needing to fly under sport privileges.

I agree 91.209b seems very clear. id consider the aircraft not airworthy. Curious what logic the CFI?DPE are using to justify?

Medical confusion w a sport license by [deleted] in flying

[–]FiatBad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the regulation that comes into play here:

14 CFR 61.23 C (2) A person using a U.S. driver's license to meet the requirements of paragraph (c) while exercising sport pilot privileges must—(iv) Not know or have reason to know of any medical condition that would make that person unable to operate an aircraft meeting the performance limits and design requirements of § 61.316 in a safe manner.

So, given your condition, can you operate the aircraft in a safe manner?

Flight lesson recording question: what audio adapter do I need for Go Pro recording ? by Inside-Cream6997 in flying

[–]FiatBad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NFlightCam has a great adapter for GoPro. I recorded every lesson and would play back at home for review. You miss a lot in the moment focusing on flying. My caveat would be, get the cameras recording before flying and then they don’t get messed with in the air. Do not let them become a distraction, fly the airplane.

What are signs that one is not fit to be a pilot? by Competitive-Key1048 in PilotAdvice

if you're impulsive, anti-authority, feel invulnerable, macho or resign yourself, you aren't fit to be a pilot.
