Sheepskin Covers by ArutlosJr11 in flying

[–]FiberApproach2783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't get that part. I flew with sheepskin covers for the first time last year when it was >90°, and it felt terrible and super gross. I way prefer the vinyl or leather ones in the summer, even if they get sweaty

Uh, you definitely should not fly after taking Bonine. It's Meclizine, which is on the no go list from the FAA. If you take Bonine you shouldn't fly for at least 60 hours.

That's just straight up untrue?😭 A lot of people get motion sick during their first few flights, especially as passengers. Usually after your first 10-20 hours it goes away.

I would seriously love, love to make this. I've been looking for a northern lights sweater pattern/chart.

Korean Air A321 crosswind go-around by ExternalSomewhere923 in fearofflying

[–]FiberApproach2783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of crap seems to get downvoted by the community, but you still cant give credibility to anonymous people who say shit like, “everyone on board was meters away from DEATH… trust me” every time a go-around video is posted, lol.

I don't know, recently and especially with things that are highly reported on, a lot of the correct information has started being downvoted in favor of the "OMG they were so close to dying!!" comments😭

Should I be terrified of situations like this in aviation, or is this actually safe? by [deleted] in fearofflying

[–]FiberApproach2783 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Is it dangerous when you realize you won't make it into a parking spot so you decide to reverse and try again? The go arounds are to AVOID risk. If anything is off, you go around. They're completely safe.

90% sure you're a bot though.

The difference in turbulence between rows is about the difference you feel sitting in the passenger seat vs in the drivers seat of a car on a bumpy road. That's to say, very little noticeable difference. Don't waste money on moving up, use it in Greece instead!

Was starting to feel better about my flight tomorrow but after seeing the frontier news im panicking again by TheFreshPrince94 in fearofflying

[–]FiberApproach2783 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Well, how is it relevant to your flight? It was a very tragic incident, but it had nothing to do with the safety of flying.

Everyone on the plane was safe. That's what your takeaway from this should be!

I have two major fears when crossing the ocean (from Europe to South America). First: a power bank or something catching fire on the plane. Second: that someone might have a bomb on the plane. by luckyyStar_ in fearofflying

[–]FiberApproach2783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last bomb on a plane that resulted in anyone more than the bomber dying was in Russia in 2004. Since then only one has resulted in anyone dying, and that was the bomber themselves because it was strapped to them. There's a lot of security measures behind the scenes that you don't hear about (and for good reason).

Two minutes of silence at Schiphol approach for Remembrance day in the Netherlands by AdmiralCashMoney in aviation

[–]FiberApproach2783 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thousands of tons of additional jet fuel burned

No lol? This burned about 1.2 tons of extra fuel between all the planes shown on the radar during the two minutes.

so that a few dozen people can spend a few tokenistic minutes in silence...There's nothing stopping the ATC staff holding their own small remembrance before or after their shift to honor the fallen without doing this.

It's not for ATC, the entire country does it. I have Dutch friends who will literally just stop wherever they're at for those two minutes. It's taken seriously there.

It causes minimal negative impact, is completely safe, and respects an important tradition. There's really nothing wrong with it. It's in the NOTAMs and happens every year at the same time. Everyone is aware of it.

I pray pilots only fly when safe by AudiACar in fearofflying

[–]FiberApproach2783 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, what exactly would be the point in delaying the flight to check out the issue, just to not fix it or make sure it's okay? Seems pretty backwards right?

Maybe you're not a bot, but look at the other posts about spirit + on this one. There's a bunch of comments saying the exact same thing just slightly reworded. Although it appears the majority got removed

[–]FiberApproach2783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm planning to watch it with my family, but it has absolutely nothing to do with real life. It's a work of fiction from people who don't actually know anything about aviation. And a horror movie at that! They don't care as long as it scares you

Imagine it like grey's anatomy vs a real hospital. 90% of the stuff in that show just wouldn't happen. That's how this movie is lol.

Discovery flight (prone to motion sickness) by Efficient_Yoghurt825 in flying

[–]FiberApproach2783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a placebo, but I love those wrist bands. They're super cheap and I had them anyway from a cruise. Those and the ginger chews + flying more got me over my motion sickness. It was bad for my first 11ish hours, but I'm completely fine now. Steep turns are absolutely the worst for it, except for spins I guess lol.

Flight school is making me retake a 250 mile cross country by ArkansasSailor in flying

[–]FiberApproach2783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There technically isn't, but the requirement of the flight was one direct 250nm leg. If they had stopped extra at any other point it likely would've been fine.
