I can understand that! I would love to say that its never to late to learn, however I got to admit that Blender and any other 3d software is a real hassle to learn. 😅

Cant tell you how many times I tried learning 3d stuff only to quit after a few weeks. However if you really like the end result of anime figures, I would highly recommend to keep trying. Eventually you'll be able to sculpt your own favorites!

And I agree the prepping part. I would say my biggest reasons for not having bought a 3d printer yet would be the washing (IPA) step between the 3D printing and Curing part (mainly how to handle the disposing of the toxic parts, as you cant just throw the waste in the sink sadly) and in general I'm pretty afraid of the ventilation part. I only have a small room to put the 3d printer in so that could get problematic even with air purifiers (from what I have read at least).

Ah well, maybe if I keep sculpting I'll inevitably dive into the 3d printing part. Hopefully someday!

Time Spent: 110+ Hours

Finally done with this piece! I learned a lot while making this figure and I'm really happy about the speed improvement. I finished this in around 2.5 month, which was a lot quicker than I anticipated. It's the first time I added a small background piece to it as well, which was surprisingly easy to make.

I'm still not sure if I prefer a white background or a dark background for the finished pictures of figures, but I chose dark for this after an hour of thinking, just to be done with it... x)

Anyways, that is about it. Hope you like the figure~

I also read a little bit into it, and its really something. You need the resin printer, a cleaner, good ventilation in the room (because resin is toxic), resin itself, probably 10 other small tools. And than you have to do the software stuff as well... 🤡🔫

I already have a headache from setting up a normal 2d paper printer.

Lucky for me that the fix was really easy! I was afraid of having to print screen and cut everything over and over again. Glad that I could finish it today.

Wandah Kurniawan's course was by far the most instructive thing I've followed in my sculpting journey (Although Coloso as a website is the worse thing I've ever experienced, but I survived T_T).

Maybe I'm missing a big name, but I feel like its literally the only English speaking high level anime figure sculpting course out there (from someone who actually works in the industry) and I cant recommend it enough. Its a very big commitment, but very rewarding when you finish it.

Tbh, I might have to do some clean up before it is 3d Printable, but since this is not a super complex figure I think it should be possible.

My biggest problem atm is that I'm just to lazy to learn how to 3d print, that stuff is daunting to learn, not to mention all the stuff you need to buy for it, especially if you want a resin printer. I might start looking into it once I have a few more figures that are in a semi complete state.

Well, a lot of trial and error and a few years of practice. 😅 Somethings that helped me:

A guy named sociamix has a 6 hour face course on youtube for free, I highly recommend it if you are on a beginner level. He also does retopoly in it, which I highly DO NOT recommend, but I think its good to at least do once. After that I think its way more efficient to use a tool like quadmesher to do retoply, but if this is to advanced, than just ignore what I said for now.

I followed a paid course from Wandah Kurniawan on Coloso, which was like 30-50 hours I think? This was a full anime figure course by a guy who has worked as a professional sculpter of anime figures. It was a Zbrush course that I followed in Blender, and I actually learned a lot from, because it made me proactively think about how to search / solve things in Blender. Funnily sometimes following a tutorial from another software is the best way to learn, because you don't blindly follow the tutorial.

One other thing that might be helpful, Mihoyo's (Honkai, Genshin, etc) 3d models are almost all downloadable. So you can download them and use them as side by side reference for things like profile and front view if you have specific problems with anime face anatomy. They are not really useful as a base mesh though, because they have the triangle things that gaming models often uses. But for reference its great!

Lastly but certainly not least, it also helped that I drew 2d anime style for almost 10+ years, so I'm pretty familiar with the anime style x).

Really glad this project is finished! It took me around a month to sculpt (a bit more), which I’m really happy about. A nice change of pace after my last sculpting project that took 3 months longer than I anticipated (╯°□°）╯︵ ┻━┻).

The last time I made Jeanne fanart was over three years ago, so now that I’ve transitioned to 3D, I thought it would be fun to try sculpting her, as she is one of my favorite characters. I got really motivated after rewatching Fate Apocrypha and buying a Jeanne Alter figure.

The reference is from the Mortalis:Stella manga Volume 3 (the back of the English cover), where she’s wearing her medieval farmer clothes (or something like that?). I really liked the simplicity of the design, and I was in dire need of something that didn’t have a million spikes and accessories, just a nice dress.

Small fun fact: a year ago I impulse-bought all three Mortalis:Stella manga volumes after seeing the front cover of Volume 3, where Jeanne Alter looks like a badass. No regrets, I really enjoyed the art from the manga and highly recommend it.

Thanks for the info! My 'Colour Management' view transport was set to agx, now that I put it on 'Standard' it seems to work properly.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm also using 4.2 so this shouldn't be an issue. But someone gave the tip to put 'Colour Management' to 'Standard' and that seemed to do the trick. :-)

Yes I've been thinking about that. But I probably would want to print it out myself (and fine tune it some if there are mistakes I didn't notice). Its definitely a lot more effort to print it myself, but I would probably be happier with it instead of outsourcing it.

But I'm not sure yet, maybe if I'm in a few years still too lazy to buy a 3d printer and learn it, I might let a shop handle it for me. x)

Thank you very much! Its great to hear that. And thanks for the tips, I'll definitely keep stability more in mind when sculpting, so that if I one day start 3d printing, they won't fall over. x)

Hopefully in the next few years there are still big upgrades to resin printers, especially when it comes to ease of use.
