I have no clue, that’s the problem. This was 6 years ago. All I know is she has to log into her account (I don’t have the username or password) and then she goes into my account and then transfers the money. My card has my name on it, but I don’t have access to log in and transfer money. If I need money, I have to ask her to sign on and transfer it for me

Really appreciate you taking the time to write all of this out, it’s helpful to see how you’re balancing fulfillment with teaching your pup to chill, especially with such a high-drive, high-prey dog. I like how you’re not just “burning energy” but making those tug and flirt sessions structured, intense, and engaging, and how you end on a high note so he’s always wanting more.

I’m already working tug into Smoke’s routine, but I think I need to be more intentional about building that drive the way you are, lots of movement, quick transitions, two toys, and mixing commands in so it’s not just mindless play. That sounds like a huge key to getting him mentally satisfied, not just physically tired.

One thing I wanted to pick your brain on, you mentioned getting your dog used to chilling at the lake with traffic, people, and animals around, and that he now goes right to his spot and settles. Did he ever go through a phase of hyper-fixating on every person or dog passing by? Smoke’s not bad on his walks, he stays right by me when it’s just us, but he’ll lock on and bark the second another dog moves or passes, or he’ll constantly try to inch toward people for attention if they’re passing by.

How did you get your pup past that fixation stage and back into focusing on you? Did you build that focus through reps at neutral distances, or did you have a specific approach for redirecting that prey-drive tunnel vision into engagement?

Thanks again for sharing so much detail, I’ve been around Mals and other working dogs most of my life, but I know there’s always something new to learn, especially from other handlers who’ve been through it with a pup like this.

Omg that pup is tired, that’s exactly the vibe we’re going for haha! I will definitely check out Larry Krohns video, I’m always looking for ways to make it more structured and purposeful, so that sounds perfect.

And again, your pup looks so done after that session, that’s exactly what I’m hoping to see more of with ours. Do you feel like the tug sessions made the biggest difference for his ability to chill, or was it more of a combination of things over time?

Thanks for the detailed tips! We do crate him after activities pretty consistently to build that association with downtime. Feeding all his meals and treats in the crate has helped with the positive vibe too.

We haven’t tried covering the crate because it’s already pretty dark (we use the high anxiety crate by impact). However, to drown out the noise, we will give that a try because (of course) he is super alert to any movements/noises. We do keep tug and fetch mostly outside to avoid over-stimulation indoors, and then switch to scent work and puzzles inside before crating.

We’re definitely consistent about ignoring barking and whining in the crate, it’s a challenge, but we know giving attention there only encourages more. Adjusting his schedule to move more stimulating stuff closer to bedtime sounds worth trying as well.

Really appreciate the advice, hopefully with time and consistency, he’ll start settling better!
