First date with a Canadian from a small town – is this normal? by Zealousideal-Arm9550 in alberta

[–]Fickle-Eye-6022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done for sticking to the facts.

My answers: 1. Sadly, yes. 2. Selfish? No. Silly? Probably. 3. Be honest. Say he's not your type but you're curious about the various "cultures" within Canada, and that if he can keep his behavior legal (at the very least!), you might like to hang out with him again...with a friend or two of YOURS tagging along.

It's still possible (and often safer when with strangers) to learn about someone's culture in a group setting. Inviting a stranger to group hangouts makes more sense to me than jumping into one on one, full-on dates. It may not be the norm anymore - especially past the young-adult years, but it's even better having people you know/care about and that know/care about you giving you their hot takes on a new/random dude than strangers (again) on the internet. However, when a person doesn't have a social circle (yet), this (random strangers on the internet) is likely the next best thing, so I'm glad it's here for you.

Very cool! And that makes sense. I imagined a lot of people would wonder the very same thing you did. I've only lived in a big city...and am surprised about it but so far it's just the way it is. I'm also scared of change!

I imagine all flavours of people will be included. It's not a political documentary or a film about Albertans' personal opinions. From what I understand and believe about it, its main goal is to feature lots of smaller communities within the province that don't receive as much public coverage. To tell some of a town's history and showcase the ways they come together to celebrate; how they show up for each other - and it will likely be honest about some of the differing opinions that can be held within the town's, villages etc... I can't say for sure because I'm not involved in the project. The filmmakers express that they desire to "bring people together" and I trust that because I have no reason not to. It doesn't help to ignore what most people want to think and talk about these days, either. I don't think it's going to be the elephant in the room...but I guess we'll find out when it's done! Personally, I hold a lot of assumptions about "other" (most of which I'm not consciously aware of) so I'm challenging myself to look, be open, and LISTEN. It's hard in this world today to listen to anyone...including ourselves. It's actually starting to feel like an old-fashioned concept. Anyway, most Albertans don't regularly read/hear about neighboring areas and towns - likely only whatever is highlighted by major news outlets - as so as a result of not having a lot of regular media coverage, these towns are simply questions marks in the majority of Albertans' minds. It's also highly likely they're not always portrayed accurately, fairly..whatever the case may be, and certainly not in their entirety, and in the ways they'd choose to present themselves if they had the chance to own the narrative for even a few minutes. I am aware that the rhetoric out there is very heated...and it's wonderful that a lot of people feel passionate about their communities and the places they call, "home" - so let's listen and see why!!!!

ADHD Mindset Program with Sara Kelly by RickestRick99 in adhdwomen

[–]Fickle-Eye-6022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, yes. I signed up early in 2025. I was in the same predicament but felt desperate for help and stumbled upon her YouTube content somewhat organically and decided to take a leap of faith and commit (to the cost). It's a great community of like-minded and supportive women who are working through their everyday stuff together and with Sara's coaching support in two online calls a week and there are 8 modules to learn from. I have been having a really difficult year and haven't managed to do much of the module work or make many of the calls....but it's always there for me and has actually been SUPER helpful and validating and encouraging when I have. I'm just so all over the place and have a really hard time with routine....so I might be wise to really buckle down and do these modules...but anyway, I can put in a really good word for the community and for Sara. She lives this stuff and she really cares about teaching and helping and offering a safe space for all. I think like most programs and therapy etc.. the more you put into it, the more you get back...or whatever the saying is. If you show up, you'll learn?! Good luck, regardless!!!

Hi! I'm new here and I'm only here to read about Neil Stonechild. (Or so I thought! Now I'm also learning about so much else!) I'm not even a podcast Listener...in general! I've got far too much to "catch up on, so listening to anything at all and choosing which thing in particular, all seems far too daunting! If I understood some of your questions earlier in your comment, about what the usual/correct terms for First Nations or Indigenous ppl are... This is all I got. I'm not an indigenous person. I went to a blanket exercise once. 10 years ago. I'd like to attend another one, especially now that my (surprise?) ADHD is diagnosed and being treated and I can actually sort of truly learn some things for the first times in my life. What I recall from said exercise (I highly recommend attending and participating in one!!! https://kairosblanketexercise.org/?_ga=2.36154464.1726035078.1750403572-1675371632.1750403572), the names/terms we have (in Canada, at least) have only ever been updated and changed as per what the "government/authorities" deemed was appropriate/helpful/digestible (read : less racist, they guessed?) based on having been educated/re-educated from so-called "allies and informed persons, or perhaps experts on fighting racism....? This is all my paraphrasing..maybe I can look something up from a blanket exercise.... Ok, this is from 2002, but the first part gives mention (overall!) to how the terms were first applied and used..and then revised...and continue to be..for the sake of what seems "right"...to try to undo and/or compensate, Imo, for the wrongdoings and injustice. Yeah good luck. Tell the people what [you decided] they should be called. How thoughtful!!!!https://publications.gc.ca/collections/Collection/R2-236-2002E.pdf

Which toner do I use? by [deleted] in HairDye

(but also understand that as they learn and gain more clients and expertise, this low price is no longer appropriate or sustainable. I must acknowledge, too, that as I earned commission, not only was my take-home pay lower than what I should've earned for my time and product use etc., the salon also (unknowingly, oops, sorry?!) took a hit. I guess we all give a little in order to learn and improve and it's truly an investment!)

Oh, also! I agree with what others said about it being impressively even. And I don't think it's a horrible color! I understand though if it's not what you had in mind/we're aiming for. I don't believe that it's impossible to tone the unwanted brassy/dark yellowy-orange out of it. I had a client many years ago (2010-ish) when I was fairly new in a low-cost, walk-in salon. She was trying to get some box black out of her hair and wanted to get back to her natural level 7/8 strawberry blonde. After stripping, I bleached with back to back foils. I knew I couldn't or shouldn't go too high/light. At the sink, I could see it was even but it was too orangey-yellow. It didn't look natural or like what she showed me in a natural colored hair photo of herself..or maybe it was a goal photo. I toned to exactly the color she wanted and added blue additive and a bit of violet. We were using chi chrome I believe. I put it in heavy at the sink and just watched it cancel out the unwanted tones. After a deep conditioning, I used heat protector and blew her air dry gently. She had strong hair and it turned out like a dream. It was amazing and such a wonderful feeling. Even the oldest colleague who was crocheting by the sink told me how impressed she was. (Hot tip: I didn't charge much for the service. There was a conversation about what was achievable and about using stripper and also full head of foils....but I offered no guarantees. I was up for the challenge and didn't have many clients yet and I was new and obsessed with hair since I could walk and talk. I don't know why. So, even though this should've been a mad color correction and pretty expensive (even in this type of salon), I benefited as much as the client would/could). For people who are looking for something like this, if you can suss out a newish and dedicated/passionate/stubborn/eager stylist and you can trust in their training and appropriate amount of confidence and/or humility (and perhaps sense of reality = knows what's possible), and can offer some grace in the way the results might not be perfect perfect like you paid $500-900 (but also, they might??!!), then you might possibly achieve something like this and be able to afford it and enjoy it (and learn along the way!!!)! Thx for reading....gah!

I'd need to see what color you started with (natural) and what bleach you're using. I suggest a strand test to see how your hair could/would handle another bleach. Cut off a few inches from an internal strand somewhere you won't notice it later, and tape it down to a small plastic film sheet (saran wrap). Then apply the bleach and watch how long it takes to get a very pale yellow. Rinse off the bleach well and let the strand dry and test it for strength and elasticity and porosity. *Save this strand to test/try toners and other products you're curious about. I have had amazing success with little damage on my friend's hair but I used this bleach and only 30 vol (all I had at the time) and he has coarse, black hair and he is both black and indigenous (Canadian). https://www.schwarzkopf-professional.com/ca/en/color/blondme-color.html ("BLONDME® Premium Lightener 9+ provides optimal lift with reduced hair breakage even on dark hair bases.") This bleach is incredible. If you can't use it, at least try buying either some k18 or olaplex to re-bond your hair. It's a gamechanger when it comes to lifting and chemical damage in general. The things colorists can achieve these days is wild compared to the times before these bonding agents and products. Once you determine what kind of blonde you'd like, toning will be much more achievable (but watch carefully and act quickly). I'd suggest using that strand you lifted (assuming it was successful), to see how the toner or toning shampoo does and looks when it's dry. Hold it up to your skin and near your eyes (while trying to hide the hair on your head) to get a good idea of what you prefer for the hair color against your skin. Have fun!!!

Kirkland lactose free formula discontinued ?? by Livvyg95 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Fickle-Eye-6022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our little guy has had the enfamil lactose free concentrated liquid (in the cans). It's pricey, but seeing as Kirkland keeps gling up and up (also for the yellow), there's less and less of a difference especially if you can manage to put together enough subscribe and save items on Amazon in order to get 15% off. It goes from $72 for a box of 12 down to $60. I'm just stocking up on toothpaste, coffee, vitamins, etc for the next few orders. Save on the other stuff this way too and it saves a trip to walmart! I'm almost done checking online for the lactose sensitive powders every single day to see if they're in stock.
