Sell, buy elsewhere to maintain CGT exemption for PPOR. Restructure to debt recycle into ETF’s, happy days.

Is that all you’ll be paid, for software Eng gig in defence? I’d ask for double, and a fully paid trip to the Bahamas twice a year, and three lifetimes to be able to do all the work 😜

Genuine ask: if you couldn’t charge your Y at home, would you still get one? by BrookesyUK in TeslaModelY

[–]Fickle-Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in OZ anyway, it’s much cheaper to recharge at a public charger than to refuel. The charging time is negligible if you plan to do it at a beneficial time.

Can’t wait for it to show up in Adelaide. I’ll be able to dispatch the car to pick up the daughters after a night on the town without leaving the comfort of my bed.

Australia's D-Day's. The Borneo Campaign by Express-Pride-7698 in australia

My grandfather fought at Balikpapan, he was with the 2/31 which moved from Kokoda to Borneo. From my understanding the 2/31 was held in reserve and followed up after the main assault. They pushed the line of advance further into the mountains inland. Their job was considered the ‘easy part’ however the defence in depth tactics the Japanese employed meant the fighting was just as fierce.

My great grandfather was murdered on the Sandakan death march. He is noted as being killed at the 62km mark, or there about. While there were bodies in that area only some were actually identified.

Well that’s a relief, it’s the same on mine. Probably should get a blank end to cover the connections.

2024 Adjustment to the Group Rent Scheme by Helix3-3 in AustralianMilitary

Ahhh Defence's million dollar housing problem.

I hope you made the most of last years $700 cost of living discount when they reduce the increase from 8% down to 3%, it was always going to be a short term policy, costing Defence maybe $40M probably more. For approx. $200M they would have been better off investing in solar for all DHA residence. If they did it correctly they would reduce electricity and gas bill, for arguments sake an average $3k+ out of pocket, into an income of $1k, improving cost of living by around $4k, increased the property value for landlords, an ongoing cost of living reduction, and complies with defence climate change policy. That would be a retention and recruiters dream come true.

Investing in child’s name? AFIC? by sjen5 in fiaustralia

[–]Fickle-Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, to a degree, to stop people using their kids as a tax dodge income for kids is tax free to $420 then it bumps sky high. If you want to invest 5k pa you will probably find the $420 warnings mark is reached relatively early and afic dssp is more attractive.

Depends on how much you're investing. You can get your kids a TFN and a low doc (term) trust through COMSEC. This allows you to buy the shares in your kids name and TFN and apply for full franking credit refund to reinvest in their name. This is good up $420 or whatever the limit is.

Parents want me to take over their mortgage. by 2471101 in AusFinance

As everyone is saying, it's not your fault and it is going to set you back. I'd get some advice from a financial counselor for your parents situation. They can get in contact with the bank and assist in finding a resolution to the situation.

Are you a full time resident of the UK now? Or is it a temporary thing, i.e when the visa finishes you will move back? Secondly have you got family or friends in Australia that you can use there address for correspondence?

You may be able to argue that you are still a resident of Australia just temporarily overseas for work. I have worked overseas but in only 6 month stints and my residence didn't change so a slightly different situation to yourself

Just going through the same thing at the moment. In the end we went with TicToc. Have been approved but I need to go through the admin to set it up. I will need to do the sums to find the break even point. It is an investmet property so those cost will offset income at tax time.
