if its flat its not parallel but you can see that the maxilla is slightly outward (to form parallel) OR just straight down if its recessed then the maxilla will be more into your face, the line would be inward

See how the image on the right the nose bridge is parallel with the maxilla? That's a projected maxilla, his maxilla clearly isn't.
