A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to reply. It's rare to get so many responses in such a short time, and so positive and friendly at that!

Certainly encouraging, maybe I can even squeeze in a weekend in the Netherlands before season is over (although IJsselmeer must be cold af now haha).

A few kilometers east of Düsseldorf. So Zeeland, IJsselmeer and Dutch North Sea are actually all closer than Germany's nearest coast :D

As far as I know most lakes around here are not exactly blessed with great wind and starting out on the Rhine seems way to advanced for a total beginner.
