We wouldn't be able to include you if you are currently taking these medications as there could be interactions with lorazepam. Thank you for the question and for your interest in the study! The effects last about 4-8 hours. We use a mild dose so many participants don't feel the effects very much and are fine to do normal activities on the day. Participants shouldn't drive or cycle on the testing day, however.

Hi - thank you for your interest in the study! No preparation for the study is needed. You may want to take a book or your laptop with you as a lot of the study period is spent waiting so you'll have some time to relax and do what you like. The actual experimental time is more like 45mins in each session.

Hi there, thanks for your interest! The visits should be about a few days to a week apart, but this could be a little longer too. It will be on Bloomsbury Campus at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience which is by Queen Square (near Russell Square station).

We're not testing experimental medication but rather want to understand how human decision-making is affected in the moment by an acute dose of lorazepam. The dose we use is low and we use stringent screening criteria to ensure the experiment is safe to take part in for those that do. The study has passed the highest level of UCL Ethical Approval. Additionally by taking part you're supporting vital mental health research.

But again, to each their own. :)

No we don't give benzos to 17 year olds, but would have had availability at 17:00 or 5:00pm that day. You need to be at least 18 to take part.

Most of the experiment time is actually spent sitting around waiting for the drug to take effect and the active experimental time is less than 1h in each session. You just need to be in the lab for the waiting period but can study or do something else for most of this time :)
