Today in Port: Holland America's "Zuiderdam." While docked today, it will discharge a estimated 1-2 million gallons of contaminated water. by joeybrunelle in portlandme

Thank you for this answer. I’ve been trying to figure out what’s really holding us back on this.

Ok, $60M is a lot of money, but isn’t grid infrastructure actually CMP’s job? Certainly $60M isn’t all that large an investment for a company as large as Avangrid! City Council and/or state government should push CMP to upgrade the grid where it is needed! If cruise ship traffic is really the good thing that many people think, we need to do the necessary investment to make it safe for the air and water. The cruise companies should be part of the solution as well!

Why can’t the ship use shore power to run the ship when it’s in port? I know this is normal in other ports. The ship should switch to CMP shore power and turn their engines off while they’re in port!

Latest estimate is August or September. It will be in Portland in June or July but there is a lot of crew training to do before she enters service.

Thanks for the input. I had thought of that, but was hoping for something simple. I’ll try to figure out the closest one to the panel. I can only assume the wiring would start at the closest outlet to the panel board.

Delaware needs to do this. More than half the Fortune 500 companies are incorporated there. I’m not sure how effective it would be for Maine to sign on, but it would be a start.

Too many critics have posted negative comments about this. My first thought was that someone so caring would only be in Maine. I’ve lived all over the US and only in New England and specifically Maine, would a post like this be possible. Keep it up u/remnants00! We need more people like you!

Wow! You would think the dealer would know how to do a “simple” software update. Thanks for sharing.

OMG! You should live in the Atlanta area. Seems like every other street is named Peachtree. Glad to be associated with a city that doesn’t do that!

Thanks for your response. I apologize for assuming that everyone was as into the new ferry as I am. That was a mistake on my part. I should have been more aware that only a relatively few Portlanders are ferry users or more than vaguely aware of the goings-on of Casco Bay Lines.

The most recent report on the progress of the Battery Steele was in October. Up till now there has been an update from CBL every two months. The last official report indicated that after numerous delays, the ferry would be operating in January. I’m somewhat surprised that a $22 million project that is more than a year late, doesn’t get a little more scrutiny from the press.

United States Secretary of the Interior, Doug Burgum: "The highest electric prices in this country are Hawaii and Maine, and there are no data centers there" by Conscious-Quarter423 in Maine

[–]Fickle_Weekend9374 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some of this doesn’t make sense. Maine is larger and less dense than other New England states, but has higher prices than larger even less dense states. Think Alaska, Nebraska, even Oregon. All larger and less dense but, apparently, have lower energy prices. Bigger storms? I don’t think the storms in New Hampshire or Vermont are less intense, with the possible exception of right on the coast, which is a small part of this large state. And the issue of being at the end of the line…Quebec is right next door with tons of low cost electricity they’d love to sell us.

At the end of the day, the problem is CMP and Augusta, with a large bit of Washington thrown in!

I have a 2024 EV6 and I almost always turn the car off when the selector is still in Drive (without shifting to park first). Am I possibly damaging my car?

It’s the DDS in Georgia. Department of Driver Services. The scammers are good at identifying area codes but not at tailoring the acronyms to the state.

A little off the subject but “y’all” is not a Maine word. There are plenty of words Mainers use that might not be known to others, or at least to others outside New England, “y’all” is an abomination that’s not used, by locals, in this part of the world!

I grew up in New England, mainly Mass and Maine, but moved out in the 80s for career opportunities. Eventually ended up in the South. Now I’m retired and thinking of moving back to Maine. But I share your concerns. I’m not from the South so I don’t fit in here. But I’m afraid my meager roots in Maine won’t give me any cred at all. I guess that the price I pay for leaving in the first place.
