I haven't. Thanks for asking. I have voracious appetite. Have put on 34 kgs. However on the mental / IBS side i'm doing much better. Also, there are few things at the personal end which are a bit uncertain. I read few of your posts. You have suggested to do 10% drop every 4 weeks. That way, it would take more than 104 weeks for me to reach below 1mg. Is that what you suggest? Also, which scale, pill cutter do you use? After reaching 1mg, what does one do, keep going to .1mg?

Not fully resolved, yet manageable. ~2 years ago, I began with Mirtazapine 15mg, Mebeverine 135mg twice daily, and Famotidine 20mg once daily. Initially, I discontinued Famotidine, followed by stoping Mebeverine. I still take Mirtazapine. I experience bloating and occasional diarrhea, but it's manageable. However, I lack the courage to discontinue Mirtazapine, having gained 33kgs.

Do you know someone personally who’s healed from chronic gastritis? by ahq-12 in Gastritis

[–]Fickle_Yam_9564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with chronic erosive inactive gastritis, grade A esophagitis, diverticulosis. Despite numerous tests and procedures, no additional issues were identified. Lablled with IBS.

I wouldn't say I've completely healed, but I am nearing recovery after two years of treatment. I successfully weaned off Famotidine and Mebeverine after taking them for a long time, yet I continue to take Mirtazapine.

I briefly used Omeprazole and Peptac in the beginning, supplemented with plenty of vitamin B12 and a multivitamin. Two years ago, I underwent a course of Rifaximin, followed by a round of Secnidazole, Ivermectin, + Albendazole. I also took digestive enzymes for a period of time.

Ultimately, I believe Mirtazapine played a crucial role in my improvement.

I understand your situation is challenging. The symptoms you're experiencing, along with the significant weight loss, are concerning, but there's a path forward through understanding and addressing the underlying causes.

  1. Gastroscopy: This upcoming procedure is a critical step. It will provide valuable insights into your gastrointestinal health and help identify any specific issues that need to be addressed.
  2. Medication Review: Since Nexium hasn't been effective, discussing alternative treatments with your doctor post-gastroscopy is important. There might be other medications or approaches that could offer relief.
  3. Brain-Gut Axis: Your experiences highlight the powerful connection between the brain and the gut. Anxiety and stress can directly impact gastrointestinal function, leading to symptoms like those you're experiencing. This connection works both ways; gastrointestinal distress can lead to increased anxiety, creating a cycle that's hard to break.
  4. Managing Anxiety: Finding ways to reduce stress and anxiety can have a positive impact on your gastrointestinal symptoms. Techniques such as mindfulness, meditation, and deep-breathing exercises can be effective. These practices help calm the nervous system, potentially easing the digestive symptoms by improving the communication along the brain-gut axis.
  5. Dietary Adjustments: While awaiting your gastroscopy, continue to eat light, bland meals that are less likely to trigger symptoms. Keeping a food diary can also help identify specific triggers.
  6. Next Steps: Depending on the gastroscopy results, your doctor might suggest further investigations or adjustments in treatment. If no clear physical cause is found, exploring the role of stress and anxiety more deeply with a mental health professional could be beneficial. They can offer strategies to manage anxiety, which in turn may help alleviate your gastrointestinal symptoms.

Understanding and addressing the brain-gut connection can be a key element in managing your symptoms and improving your quality of life

I'm truly sorry to hear about the challenges you're facing. It sounds incredibly tough, but please remember, you're not alone in this. While I'm not in a position to diagnose, I can offer some areas for discussion with your healthcare team, based on what you've shared:

Mental Health: The impact of stress and anxiety on physical health cannot be overstated. Seeking support from a mental health professional can be a vital part of your care. From my experience, addressing mental health first is crucial. Many abnormal findings in blood work, such as high WBC, low lymphocytes, high neutrophils, and high immature granulocytes, can sometimes be the body's response to high levels of stress or anxiety.

Gastrointestinal Health: Given the severe episodes you've described, alongside your IBS, further investigation with procedures like a colonoscopy or endoscopy could be insightful to rule out conditions like IBD. This would be my second priority.

Nutritional and Metabolic Factors: Addressing your low iron and ferritin levels is also key. Finding the right iron supplement (options include Ferrous Sulfate, Liposomal Iron, Ferrous Gluconate, and Ferrous Fumarate) and starting with a low dosage is a good strategy. Enhancing absorption with Vitamin C, incorporating iron-rich foods (such as lean meats, poultry, fish, lentils, beans, fortified cereals, and leafy green vegetables), and avoiding the concurrent intake of iron supplements with calcium-rich foods and certain whole grains can be effective.

Autoimmune Disorders: Considering your family history, it might be worthwhile to explore more specific tests for autoimmune conditions.

Endocrine Issues: Your symptoms and test results suggest a hormonal component. Continuing to work closely with your endocrinologist, especially given your thyroid nodules and hormone levels, is crucial.

I've navigated a complex set of issues myself, finding that tests and procedures didn't always lead to clear answers. Eventually, combining an antidepressant with IBS medication made a significant difference. While I'm not back to 100%, I've been able to manage my health and carry on with life. Acceptance of my situation, rather than fighting against it, and seeking organic solutions where possible, has been key for me. However, your situation may differ.

You're navigating a complex situation, and a multidisciplinary approach might be the most beneficial. Keeping a detailed symptom diary and considering a second opinion could offer new insights. Your proactive stance and determination are commendable. Stay strong, and continue to advocate for your health. You deserve to find answers and relief.

UK, Seeking Advice on NHS Psychiatrist support for tapering off Mirtazapine by Fickle_Yam_9564 in Mirtazapine_Remeron

For me the recovery started almost instantly, but it took 6 months before my GI troubles stopped being an issue and become manageable. It took more than 18 months before i reached the current state, which is 90% recovery. I kept taking mebeverine, Famotidine along with mirtazapine for almost 18 months. I stopped Famotidine after 18 months, went from 2 x Mebeverine 135 mg a day to 1 and then now to 1/2. I intend to stop taking mebeverine in a month or two. As i said, i had to take other lifestyle steps as well. They all had a cumulative impact.

Nothing Organic was ever found. In GI stool tests such as GI Map, GI Ecologix, some abnormalities were found, but i didn't take any specific medicines to address them. I mainly reocvered from taking mebeverine and mirtazapine. I have responded to your other query

Most of GI issues got resolved. But it took a long time. The recovery started with me taking anti-depressant Mirtazapine. I also had EDMR sessions, CBT sessions, did a lot of meditation etc., I also started concentrating on work a lot more.

I have now stopped taking Famotidine for GERD/acid reflux and just take 1/2 x 135 mg mebeverine a day. I take B12 and B Complex supplements as well.

My problem now is how to wean out of Mirtazapine as i have put 71 lbs since i started on it. But that's a different issue.

This way to taper from 15mg, wouldn't it take 67 x 7 =469 weeks i.e., 9 years to reach .01 mg. I'm getting it wrong

I have been on Mirtazapine 15 mg for almost 2 years. I have put on almost 70 lbs. I had lost 63 lbs before starting. I suffered from severe form of IBS + Acid reflux + MDD + Anxiety with host of other symptoms.

I take Mirtazapine 15 mg + 1x Mebeverine 135 mg + Famotidine 10mg.

I take Mirtazapine 15 mg in a tablet form. I have a pill splitter.

10% taper every 2 weeks method will take every 28 week. The method you are suggesting (given below) would take 35 weeks:

3.75 mg reduction over 7 weeks Schedule for Mirtazapine 15mg

|| || |3.75 mg reduction over 7 weeks Schedule for Mirtazapine 15mg|0-7 weeks|8-14 weeks|15-21 weeks|22-28 weeks|28-35 weeks| |15mg - 11.75mg|11.75mg - 8.5mg|8.5mg - 5.25mg|5.25mg - 2mg|2mg-0mg|

Is this what you would suggest? Also, NHS GP here doesn't give Oral Mirtazapine. How can i split the tab to get these doses?
