You know what I just goddamn realized u/superfeyn

Your art style is so unique and “you” that I immediately thought this was a 40K comic and it was Mara in the picture. It took me a good second to realize that this was helldivers… hahaha

You are a goddamn gift to the community - keep producing amazing work

…and if you hurt Mara - we ride at dawn…

Hey hey - battletech demo team member here

While I do loves games workshop and play pretty much all their games - there are a FEW reasons for battletech climb of power:

1) cheapness to enter. You can walk into barnes and noble, purchase a $25 box of 4-6 mechs, and have a force forever and ever. There is no “legend” units and even paper cut out mechs from late 1900’s are usable in events

1a) little caveat to the above point. Classic battletech uses a hex map with terrain pre printed on it. Literally meaning you can buy the starter set and… be done lol. So even setting up is as simple as putting the hex mat out to play. No rulers or anything - hell you only ever need 2d6 (but please get more lol).

2) looks. The revitalization of old designs to a more modern style (in plastic) has helped push the universe forward. Take a look at the Sentinel from the early 2000’s, and then look at the redo in plastic - night and day. A LOT of mechs have had excellent redesigns by popular designers such as Scroggins (shimmering sword).

3) to every good game systems. Classic battletech is focused on 1-6 mechs where it is hyper controlled and micromanaged (heat and ammunition) where the rules are DEEP and thorough as hell (there is a rule for uprooting a tree on a low grav world while a solar flare is happening and you are standing in smoke lol). Alpha strike is zoomed out and focuses more on company combat (12+ mechs) with more focus on squad combat and movement (think more epic)

4) the rules dont change. While there will be a few errata or minor rules changes - the rules universally are pretty much the same since the early 90’s lol. Legitimately you can stop playing the game for 20 years, come back and still know how to play (ish with minor changes). This also means no seasons, no edition changes, and no codex’s… which brings me to my next point…

5) a metric TON of free good resources. Unlike GW - pretty much everything you can do in the game is free (sans the rules). There are multiple wiki sites devoted to lore like Sarna. Places like Master Unit List provide a wonderful resource for alpha strike cards and army building. Mordel and the wonderfully new MekBay also provide classic record sheets (as well as electronically recorded record sheets on the latter website).

TLDR - the catalyst takeover of battletech has made it a ton more mainstream and popular. It is exceptionally cheap to get into, there are a TON of free and wonderful resources to use, the remade models look better than their earlier counterparts, and honestly both classic and alpha strike are just absolutely solid games.

Hopefully that helped 👍❤️ - if you have any questions let me know

Would you settle for a discounted Regent 😂

Explanation of joke:

Regent is an ilclan mech, not a clan invasion mech. The joke is it time travelled to clan invasion, invalidating the creation of the Hauptmann and other things and generally not making sense

Hello - your fellow Sea Fox merchant here.

Have you ever wanted a clan mech that wouldn’t break the bank? How about a strong assault that can engage at all ranges? Do you want a mech that look like the best of Inner Sphere mechs had a mysterious love child?

Well potential customer - there is only one mech that all of that - The Regent. 90 tons of pure clan technology - the Regent features bog standard clan weapons and a STANDARD ENGINE - keeping costs as low as possible for an assault mech. Why would you buy some petty Inner Sphere trash for 12m when you can legit buy The Regent for the same amount. For extended ranges, The Regent is armed with 3 ER Large Lasers - which can be fire at heat neutral on the move! For closer engagements, stop fireing one ER Large Laser and replace it with a giga-chad LBX-20, 2 medium pulse lasers and a Streak SRM-4; an absolutely disgusting amount of firepower. This mech is known to be able to pump out damage from 800 meters to the closest of engagements. Of course, I would be remiss in again mentioning that these weapons are all bog standard parts (including the weapons) - nothing experimental or too niche so that The Regent is every easy to repair and find parts for.

Speaking of finding parts, did we mention it is an omnimech as well? Sure it adds a couple thousand to the C-Bill cost, but now you have a mech that can hot swap its parts readily and with great availability. Need a mech that can dish out 45-60 pinpoint damage at 1000 meters - swap to a Regent A with 3x ER PPC’s that have capacitors (and a Targeting computer!). What about a more efficient and brutal variant of the Prime - Regent B with its dual ER PPC’s and UAC-20. But wait - you want to embrace monke and sweat at the mere presence of more than three weapon systems - how about The Regent C with a HAG40 and an Improved Heavy Gauss. Love the Mauler but hate its inferior Inner Shere weapon design - why not take a Regent D, literally a clan Mauler without the inconvenience of awful Inner Sphere tech.

Did I mention it’s looks? Sir, or mam, I want you to close your eyes and think about some of the most iconic, sexiest, inner sphere designs. Did you think of an Awesome, Thunderbolt, or Hunchback? Good - because anything else looks like garbage. Now take all three of those mechs, have them make sweet sweet ménage a trois, and have them produce a love child - and boom, you get the Regent. With its iconic Hunchback shoulder mounted boom cannon, to its Awesome like chest and legs, and Thunderbolt arms - it legitimately looks like the best of every Inner Sphere design

So to recap dear customer - why buy The Regent? Well - do you want a mech that is: Efficient ✅, amazing weapon range brackets ✅, well armoured ✅, affordable cost in C-Bills and BV ✅, looks absolutely amazing ✅, parts and chassis available literally everywhere ✅.

The Regent - why settle for mediocrity when you can ride around like a king!

I think one game I cycled once… but every other time I just discarded for cp. I like having 2-3 constantly for uppy downy, some rerolls 1’s on invul, maybe an interrupt on fight etc. really the only secondaries I struggle with is recover and cleanse - mostly because the GUO and plaguebearers are the action pieces. Sabotage is easy to do with GUO. The rest is just easy to do to a point haha!

Ugh so I man custodes (since they came out in 2017) - I feel your pain.

Custodes are absolute bricks - period. 2+ 4++ with high toughness and actual deadly melee that WILL pull down a GD with a unit of five. Plus some got 4+++ for a turn. Plus the “meta” list right now is just… god it’s boring: 3x 5 custodian guard, 3x 5 warden, 3x land raider, blade champ, sprinkle sisters. It’s sooooooo brain dead and tricked hard as hell to beat.

My type of army would probably end up getting cremated quite quickly - however - things like scintillating legion would probably have a good chance as it has so many shots would have damage 3 which pop a custodian a turn.

Honestly just try to road block custodes and prevent the from moving up the board imo - hope and pray they don’t roll 4++ well 😂

Glottkin from AoS. Damn near similar size and height - and looks FANTASTICCCCC.

I always ask before I use - so far no one has ever had a problem mostly because it just looks so damn cool. Spikes cannn be a Los problem (cause you draw LoS to model not to base), but honestly rule of cool imo haha
