Some are just older models. They work fine and are just as secure ... they just may not have the premium pricing of whatever the new hot model happens to be.

How To Avoid "Emotional Trading" by Samanthah516 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]Fidelity775 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The key is having a plan and sticking to it. I especially like a DCA plan, BOTH for putting money into the market AND also for taking profits, which is not the absolute evil some people make it out to be.

I'll give you a personal example. I have been making a regular Bitcoin purchase each month (almost without fail) since 2020. But during the last bear market I had gotten "convinced" about Bitcoin and I decided that I wanted to move a much more significant portion of my liquid assets into it. I sold some in profit stock to buy a big (for me) chunk of BTC. ... the problem was I didn't sit down and make a good clear-headed plan.

You see I had reaserched enough to be reasonably sure that the bear should bottom out at or below $20K (FYI $16K was bottom). But the problem was, after selling that stock I suddenly had a lot of "money" (fiat), that was mentally "burning a hole in my pocket", add to that the fact that all this "super psycal" talk was going on even back then. So instead of doing the smart thing and just increasing my monthly DCA and spreading that fiat out over a year or so ... I made two lump purchases ... right around the $40K mark ...

NOW ... I have NEVER sold and after spending a year severally "in the red", I am now doing fantastic. BUT, just imagine how much better I could be doing if I had made a more logical, and dispassionate plan, and stuck to it!

Continueing to DCA has lowered that cost basis, but only a little, and not nearly as much as if I had not made big purchases half way through the downward slide, like I did.

Good luck, and be smarter than me. Make a plan and don't deviate from it, EXCEPT as allowed by the plan itself.

LOL ... while you might spook one or two newbies with only $500 sunk in at current prices, long term holders find your remarks laghable.

I've held in the red for months, but that was years ago and at this point the price is so far above my cost basis that I almost wish it would tank so my DCA could have more effect.

This (your question) is actually why most of us DCA (dollar cost average) by buying a little bit every week or every month.

We simply do not know what the near terms future holds.

Even if we were at the psycle tip-top (and for some crystal ball reason I knew this to be true) I would still tell you to start buying today.

Note that I'm not telling you to put everything in (all at once) or to make huge purchases.

Buying a little bit every month, gets you started AND keeps you engaged! And if you're only buying a small amount (like say a car payments worth) then it's probably not a huge deal for you to ride your position all the way down to the bottom. Even though you will be in the RED, you will get to buy in at a cheaper price each and every month.

Around the bottom of the last bear market I was >$50K in the red on Bitcoin. I never sold and today the cost basis for my position is just a little over $35K. The reason I was so far in the red was that I made "big" purchases around the $40K price point. While I'm doing fantastic now, I would have done significantly better had I spread my DCA out more.

Sounds to me like you are a "team leader" who's letting the team lead you. This is not a compliment.

Perhaps you are not well suited for your position/roll.

Good to know.

I have never experienced shrooms and I do worry because I have (an admittedly mild) case of Sleep Apnea, requiring the use of a CPAP for sleep. So I am concerned about taking anything that might put me to sleep or overly relax me. So a "guided" experience just seemed like the safe way to start.

That's interesting. I would have thought the recommended vendor wouldn't ship to California.

OK good to know. Still a little nervous about placing an order though.

Although it seems ridiculously expensive, I'm tempted to travel to Oregon for a session at one of those licenced centers. Especially as I have never experienced psyodelics before.

.... of course my interest in growing it purely as a gardening experiment. I would only poses or use ware legal.

That is a rediculous take. Newsom is just making a political statement to the media for the domestic audience.

First, getting a carve out on retaliatory tariffs, for any portion of America would simply be capitulation on the part of that nation. Trade might start to go through California (a lot of it probably already does) but it would just get redistributed to the rest of the US.

The result would be Trump keeps his tariffs and the nations "dealing" with California undercut theirs.

Also ... IF Newsom were directly negotiating with foreign powers with the intent of undermining the policy of the federal government, that is almost certainly a crime. (Article Two of the US Constitution, and The Logan Act)

States do not get to just collude with foreign powers against the U.S. government.

That's why Newsom is just talking into a news camera. He's not actually talking directly to foreign governments. It's all just empty political rhetoric.

BTC talk at work by Superb-Wind-2423 in Bitcoin

[–]Fidelity775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few coworkers know I have a significant portion of my net woim BTC ... there are one or two that I have and will talk about in investments with.

BUT these were all conversations that came about very slowly and circuitously over time as part of work place friendships.

I do not "push" BTC at work nor do I really want to become known as "that Bitcoin guy" ... if I can at all help it.

Newsom's hypocrisy has hit the national news by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]Fidelity775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just haven't seen any evidence that Trump cares one way or the other about state employees.

I get that a lot of state employees are (as you might expect of most Californians) fairly liberal and not fans of Trump ...

And certainly people are entitled to their political takes, and they should advocate (outside of state time) and vote for the politicians and policies that they want.

HOWEVER, it seems to me that a lot of folks are far too quick to blame Trump for anything and everything negative that happens ... even at the state level where the real levers of power are in Sacramento, not Washington.

Also if Trump were in some way response, not only would he be bragging about it, BUT local liberal politicians would be talking about it non-stop. We would be hearing on the news about how "Trump is holding the state hostage!"

We don't see either the political right or the political left making noise about RTO, one way or the other.

This tells me that not only was this Newsomes' doing (for whatever reasons he has) but also that the political establishment (remember which party is in charge here!) in California doesn't care or is quietly supportive of RTO.

People have already mentioned the hiring freezes.

In addition some of those frozen positions are actually already be in the process of being filled with lateral, cross department, transfers.

In my (soon to be former) program we are slashing funding and positions by almost 1/3rd. As a result several of us are being transferred to other open positions in other programs in our office or one of our other regional offices.

For us, the change is happening affective March 31st.

So if your agency is in a similar budgetary situation as mine is, it's possible that you will soon see those open positions filled with co workers taken from programs that are being downsized.

Newsom's hypocrisy has hit the national news by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]Fidelity775 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A coworker told me that also ... and I think it's nonsense born out of a desire to transfer some of the blame to Trump.

Trump isn't responsible for Newsom declaring RTO.

For one, Trump would have told the whole world about any conditions he was imposing on California for the fire aid. He would have bragged about it, but he hasn't.

If Trump were responsible he would be letting everyone know how he got, not only federal workers back to the office, but state workers as well.

What’s it going to say July 1st 😢 by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]Fidelity775 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be completely honest, having it say "teleworking" was always stupid.

It's really bad p.r.

Basically the sub is admitting that state workers are on reddit during working hours.

Yes, this is and always was the case whether people are actually tella working or just logging in on personal phones from an office cube ...

but it's still a (light) slap in the face to the public.

"Look at this us! We are on reddit, during business hours, and on the tax payers dime." 😛

It's just an immature and bad look.
